El Señor desafía a Job
40 El Señor también le dijo a Job:
2 «¿Te parece sabio discutir con el Todopoderoso?
El que discute con Dios, tiene que responderle.»
3 Y Job le respondió al Señor:
4 «Indigno soy. ¿Qué te puedo responder?
Más me conviene quedarme callado.
5 Una vez he hablado, así que no voy a responder.
Hablé por segunda vez, y no lo volveré a hacer.»

6 Entonces el Señor respondió a Job desde el torbellino, y le dijo:
7 «Pórtate como hombre, y prepárate.
Yo te voy a preguntar, y tú me vas a responder.
8 ¿Acaso vas a invalidar mi justicia?
¿O vas a condenarme para justificarte?
9 ¿Tienes acaso el mismo poder que yo?
¿Puede tu voz resonar como la mía?
10 »Revístete de majestad y de gloria;
cúbrete de honra y hermosura.
11 Deja sentir todo el ardor de tu ira;
fija tu mirada en los orgullosos, y humíllalos.
12 Fíjate en los soberbios, y abátelos;
quebranta a los malvados; ¡ponlos en su lugar!
13 Sepúltalos a todos en la tierra;
cúbreles la cara y déjalos en tinieblas.
14 Entonces yo tendré que reconocer
que tu diestra tiene el poder de salvarte.
15 »Mira a Behemot, la bestia de las bestias;
criatura mía, lo mismo que tú.
Se alimenta de hierba, como los bueyes,
16 su fuerza se concentra en sus lomos,
y su vigor se halla en los músculos de su vientre;
17 ¡sacude su cola como un cedro!
Los tendones de sus muslos se entrelazan,
18 y sus huesos parecen barras de bronce;
¡sus patas son tan fuertes como el hierro!
19 »Behemot fue mi primera obra;
Yo lo hice, y sólo yo puedo matarlo.
20 En los montes crece hierba para él,
y allí retozan las bestias del campo.
21 Behemot se echa entre los juncos;
se echa entre las matas de los esteros.
22 La sombra de los árboles lo resguardan;
los sauces del arroyo lo rodean.
23 Si el río se desborda, él no se espanta;
se queda tranquilo aunque el río Jordán lo cubra.
24 ¿Quién puede atacarlo, estando él despierto?
¿Quién puede acercarse a él y horadarle el hocico?

40 The Lord said to Job:(A)
2 “Will the one who contends with the Almighty(B) correct him?(C)
Let him who accuses God answer him!”(D)
3 Then Job answered the Lord:
4 “I am unworthy(E)—how can I reply to you?
I put my hand over my mouth.(F)
5 I spoke once, but I have no answer(G)—
twice, but I will say no more.”(H)
6 Then the Lord spoke to Job out of the storm:(I)
7 “Brace yourself like a man;
I will question you,
and you shall answer me.(J)
8 “Would you discredit my justice?(K)
Would you condemn me to justify yourself?(L)
9 Do you have an arm like God’s,(M)
and can your voice(N) thunder like his?(O)
10 Then adorn yourself with glory and splendor,
and clothe yourself in honor and majesty.(P)
11 Unleash the fury of your wrath,(Q)
look at all who are proud and bring them low,(R)
12 look at all who are proud(S) and humble them,(T)
crush(U) the wicked where they stand.
13 Bury them all in the dust together;(V)
shroud their faces in the grave.(W)
14 Then I myself will admit to you
that your own right hand can save you.(X)
15 “Look at Behemoth,
which I made(Y) along with you
and which feeds on grass like an ox.(Z)
16 What strength(AA) it has in its loins,
what power in the muscles of its belly!(AB)
17 Its tail sways like a cedar;
the sinews of its thighs are close-knit.(AC)
18 Its bones are tubes of bronze,
its limbs(AD) like rods of iron.(AE)
19 It ranks first among the works of God,(AF)
yet its Maker(AG) can approach it with his sword.(AH)
20 The hills bring it their produce,(AI)
and all the wild animals play(AJ) nearby.(AK)
21 Under the lotus plants it lies,
hidden among the reeds(AL) in the marsh.(AM)
22 The lotuses conceal it in their shadow;
the poplars by the stream(AN) surround it.
23 A raging river(AO) does not alarm it;
it is secure, though the Jordan(AP) should surge against its mouth.
24 Can anyone capture it by the eyes,
or trap it and pierce its nose?(AQ)
