The Lord Challenges Job

⁶ Then the Lord ^(A)answered Job out of the whirlwind and said:

The Lord Answers Job

38 Then the Lord ^(A)answered Job out of the whirlwind and said:

¹⁰ But ^(A)the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then ^(B)the heavens will pass away with a roar, and ^(C)the heavenly bodies^[a] will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.^[b]

¹¹ Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, ^(D)what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, ^12 (E)waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and ^(F)the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn!

A Kingdom That Cannot Be Shaken

¹⁸ For you have not come to ^(A)what may be touched, a blazing fire and darkness and gloom and a tempest ¹⁹ and ^(B)the sound of a trumpet and a voice whose words ^(C)made the hearers beg that no further messages be spoken to them. ²⁰ For they could not endure the order that was given, ^(D)“If even a beast touches the mountain, it shall be stoned.”
