Fiducia in Dio
4 Elifaz il Temanita prese la parola e disse:
2 Se si tenta di parlarti, ti sarà forse gravoso?
Ma chi può trattenere il discorso?
3 Ecco, tu hai istruito molti
e a mani fiacche hai ridato vigore;
4 le tue parole hanno sorretto chi vacillava
e le ginocchia che si piegavano hai rafforzato.
5 Ma ora questo accade a te e ti abbatti;
capita a te e ne sei sconvolto.
6 La tua pietà non era forse la tua fiducia
e la tua condotta integra, la tua speranza?
7 Ricordalo: quale innocente è mai perito
e quando mai furon distrutti gli uomini retti?
8 Per quanto io ho visto, chi coltiva iniquità,
chi semina affanni, li raccoglie.
9 A un soffio di Dio periscono
e dallo sfogo della sua ira sono annientati.
10 Il ruggito del leone e l'urlo del leopardo
e i denti dei leoncelli sono frantumati.
11 Il leone è perito per mancanza di preda
e i figli della leonessa sono stati dispersi.
12 A me fu recata, furtiva, una parola
e il mio orecchio ne percepì il lieve sussurro.
13 Nei fantasmi, tra visioni notturne,
quando grava sugli uomini il sonno,
14 terrore mi prese e spavento
e tutte le ossa mi fece tremare;
15 un vento mi passò sulla faccia,
e il pelo si drizzò sulla mia carne...
16 Stava là ritto uno, di cui non riconobbi
l'aspetto,
un fantasma stava davanti ai miei occhi...
Un sussurro..., e una voce mi si fece sentire:
17 «Può il mortale essere giusto davanti a Dio
o innocente l'uomo davanti al suo creatore?
18 Ecco, dei suoi servi egli non si fida
e ai suoi angeli imputa difetti;
19 quanto più a chi abita case di fango,
che nella polvere hanno il loro fondamento!
Come tarlo sono schiacciati,
20 annientati fra il mattino e la sera:
senza che nessuno ci badi, periscono per sempre.
21 La funicella della loro tenda non viene forse
strappata?
Muoiono senza saggezza!».

4 Y respondió Elifaz el temanita, y dijo:
2 Si probáremos a hablarte, te será molesto; pero ¿quién podrá detener las palabras?
3 He aquí, tú enseñabas a muchos, y las manos debilitadas corroborabas.
4 Al que vacilaba, enderezaban tus palabras, y las rodillas de los que arrodillaban esforzabas.
5 Mas ahora que a ti te ha venido, te es molesto; y cuando ha llegado hasta ti, te turbas.
6 ¿No es éste tu temor, tu confianza, tu esperanza, y la integridad de tus caminos?
7 Acuérdate ahora, ¿quién haya sido inocente que se perdiera? Y ¿adónde los rectos han sido cortados?
8 Como yo he visto que los que aran iniquidad y siembran injuria, la siegan.
9 Perecen por el aliento de Dios, y por el espíritu de su furor son consumidos.
10 El bramido del león, y la voz del león, y los dientes de los leoncillos son arrancados.
11 El león viejo perece por falta de presa, y los hijos del león son esparcidos.
12 ¶ El negocio también me era a mí oculto; mas mi oído ha percibido algo de ello.
13 En imaginaciones de visiones nocturnas, cuando el sueño cae sobre los hombres,
14 me sobrevino un espanto y un temblor, que estremeció todos mis huesos.
15 Y un espíritu que pasó por delante de mí, hizo que se erizara el vello de mi carne.
16 Se paró un fantasma delante de mis ojos, cuyo rostro yo no conocí, y quedo, oí que decía:
17 ¿Por ventura será el hombre más justo que Dios? ¿Será el varón más limpio que el que lo hizo?
18 He aquí que en sus esclavos no confía, y en sus ángeles halló locura.
19 ¡Cuánto más en los que habitan en casas de lodo, cuyo fundamento está en el polvo, y que serán quebrantados de la polilla!
20 De la mañana a la tarde son quebrantados, y se pierden para siempre, sin haber quien lo considere.
21 ¿Su hermosura, no se pierde con ellos mismos? Mueren, y no lo saben.

以利法的責難
4 提幔人以利法回答說：
2 「若有人向你進言，
你會厭煩嗎？
可是，誰能忍住不說呢？
3 你曾教導許多人，
使無力的手強壯。
4 你的話使人免於跌倒，
你使顫抖的膝硬朗。
5 但現在苦難一來，
你便灰心喪膽；
災禍來臨，
你便驚慌失措。
6 你敬畏上帝還沒有信心嗎？
你行為純全還沒有盼望嗎？
7 你想一想，
哪有無辜的人滅亡？
哪有正直的人遭殃？
8 據我所見，
播惡收惡，
種禍得禍。
9 他們被上帝的氣息所毀，
被上帝的怒氣所滅。
10 獅子咆哮，猛獅吼叫，
壯獅的牙齒被敲掉。
11 雄獅因無食而死，
母獅的幼崽離散。
12 「有信息暗暗地傳給我，
一聲低語傳入我耳中。
13 夜間人們沉睡的時候，
在攪擾思緒的異象中，
14 恐懼襲來，
令我戰慄不已，
全身發抖。
15 有靈從我臉上拂過，
使我毛骨悚然。
16 那靈停住，
我無法辨認其模樣。
眼前出現一個形狀，
寂靜中聽見有聲音說，
17 『在上帝面前，世人豈算得上公義？
在創造主面前，凡人豈算得上純潔？
18 連上帝的僕人都無法令祂信任，
連祂的天使都被祂找出過錯，
19 更何況源自塵土、
住在土造的軀殼裡、
脆弱如蛾的世人呢？
20 早晚之間，他們便被毀滅，
永遠消逝，無人察覺。
21 他們帳篷的繩索被拔起，
他們毫無智慧地死去。』

4 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
2 If we assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieved? but who can withhold himself from speaking?
3 Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands.
4 Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees.
5 But now it is come upon thee, and thou faintest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.
6 Is not this thy fear, thy confidence, thy hope, and the uprightness of thy ways?
7 Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off?
8 Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.
9 By the blast of God they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed.
10 The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken.
11 The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the stout lion's whelps are scattered abroad.
12 Now a thing was secretly brought to me, and mine ear received a little thereof.
13 In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men,
14 Fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake.
15 Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up:
16 It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: an image was before mine eyes, there was silence, and I heard a voice, saying,
17 Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his maker?
18 Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly:
19 How much less in them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which are crushed before the moth?
20 They are destroyed from morning to evening: they perish for ever without any regarding it.
21 Doth not their excellency which is in them go away? they die, even without wisdom.
