39 Kan du jaga byte åt lejonhonan
och stilla lejonungarnas hunger,
2 där de kryper ihop i sina hålor
eller ligger och väntar bland snåren?
3 Vem är det som skaffar mat åt korpen,
när dess ungar skriker till Gud
och flaxar omkring hungriga?
4 Vet du när[a] stengeten föder sina ungar,
och vakar du över hindens kalvning?
5 Räknar du hur många månader de går havande,
vet du tiden när de ska föda?
6 De böjer sig ner, föder sina ungar
och blir av med sin plåga.
7 Deras ungar växer upp på de öppna fälten och blir starka.
De ger sig iväg och kommer aldrig mer tillbaka.
8 Vem är det som släpper vildåsnan fri,
vem knyter upp dess band?
9 Jag har gett den öknen som hem
och saltslätterna att bo på.
10 Den ler åt stadens buller
och slipper höra pådrivarens rop.
11 Bergskedjorna är dess betesmark.
Där söker den efter allt som är grönt.
12 Skulle vildoxen vilja bli din tjänare?
Skulle den stanna vid din krubba om natten?
13 Skulle du kunna hålla vildoxen framför plogen?
Skulle den dra harven efter dig i dalarna?
14 Vågar du lita på den för dess enorma styrka,
överlåta ditt tunga arbete åt den?
15 Kan du lita på att den för hem din skörd
och samlar den på tröskplatsen?
16 Strutsen flaxar glatt med sina vingar,
men dess fjädrar kan inte jämföras med hägerns.[b]
17 Den lägger sina ägg på marken,
låter dem värmas i sanden
18 och tänker inte på att någon kan trampa på dem
och vilda djur kan krossa dem.
19 Den är hård mot sina ungar,
precis som om de inte var dess egna
och bryr sig inte om sin möda,
som var förgäves,
20 för Gud har inte utrustat den med vishet
eller gett den förstånd.
21 Men så snart den reser sig upp för att springa
skrattar den både åt häst och ryttare.
22 Har du gett hästen dess styrka
eller klätt dess nacke med den yviga manen?
23 Är det du som lärt den hoppa som gräshoppan
och sprida skräck med sitt stolta frustande?
24 Den skrapar med hoven,
gläds över sin styrka
och rusar fram mot väpnade styrkor.
25 Den skrattar åt rädslan och fruktar inget,
den ryggar inte tillbaka för svärdet.
26 Runt omkring den viner pilar
och slår blixtrande spjut och lans.[c]
27 Den skakar och är upphetsad,
rusar över terrängen,
in i striden när stridssignalen ljuder.
28 Vid hornstöten gnäggar den högt,
vädrar strid redan på avstånd,
kommandorop och stridslarm.
29 Är det tack vare din vishet som höken flyger högt där uppe
och breder ut sina vingar mot söder?
30 Är det på din befallning som örnen flyger omkring
och bygger sitt bo på hög höjd?
31 Där bor den på klippan och tillbringar sin natt,
med klippbranten som sin fästning.
32 Därifrån spanar den in sitt byte
och upptäcker det på långt håll.
33 Dess ungar frossar i blod,
för där det slagna ligger, där finns örnen.
34 Herren svarade Job:
35 ”Vill du tvista med den Väldige,
visa honom till rätta?
Nu får Guds anklagare svara honom!”
Jobs svar
36 Då svarade Job Herren:
37 Jag är ingenting,
hur skulle jag kunna finna några svar?
Jag sätter handen för munnen.
38 Jag har talat både en gång och två gånger,
men inte kunnat svara.
Nu säger jag inget mer.

39 Знаеш ли времето, когато раждат дивите кози по канарите? Забелязваш ли кога раждат кошутите?
2 Преброяваш ли колко месеци изпълняват те? Или знаеш ли срока за раждането им? -
3 Когато се навеждат, раждат малките си, Освобождават се от болките си.
4 Малките им заякват, растат в полето; Излизат и не се връщат вече при тях.
5 Кой е пуснал на свобода дивия осел? Или кой е развързал връзките на тоя плах бежанец,
6 За кой съм направил пустинята за къща И солената земя за негово жилище?
7 Той се присмива на градския шум, Нито внимава на викането на този, който го кара.
8 Планините, които обикаля, са пасбището му; И търси всякаква зеленина.
9 Ще благоволи ли дивият вол да ти работи, Или ще нощува ли в твоите ясли?
10 Можеш ли да впрегнеш дивия вол за оране? Или ще браносва ли той полетата зад тебе?
11 Ще се облегнеш ли на него, защото силата му е голяма? Или ще повериш ли на него работата си?
12 Ще се довериш ли на него да ти прибере житото ти И да го събере в гумното ти?
13 Крилата на камилоптицата пляскат весело; Но крилата и перата й благи ли са?
14 Защото тя оставя яйцата си на земята И ги топли в пръстта,
15 А забравя, че е възможно нога да ги смаже Или полски звяр да ги стъпче.
16 Носи се жестоко с малките си, като че не са нейни; Трудът й е напразно, защото не я е грижа за опасности:
17 Понеже Бог я е лишил от мъдрост, И не я е обдарил с разум.
18 Когато стане да бяга Присмива се на коня и на ездача му.
19 Ти ли си дал сила на коня? Облякъл си врата му с трептяща грива?
20 Ти ли го правиш да скача като скакалец? Гордото му пръхтене е ужасно.
21 Копае с крак в долината, и се радва на силата си; Излиза срещу оръжията.
22 Присмива се на страха и не се бои. Нито се обръща назад от меча,
23 Тула по страната му трещи, И лъскавото копие, и сулицата.
24 С буйство и ярост той гълта земята; И при гласа на тръбата не вярва от радост.
25 Щом свири тръбата, той казва: Хо, хо! И от далеч подушва боя, Гърменето на военачалниците и викането.
26 Чрез твоята ли мъдрост лети на горе ястребът, И простира крилата си към юг?
27 При твоята ли заповед се възвишава орелът, И при гнездото си по височините?
28 Живее по канарите, и там се помещава, По върховете на скалите, и по непроходимите места.
29 От там си съзира плячка, Очите му я съглеждат от далеч.

39 “Do you know when the mountain goats(A) give birth?
Do you watch when the doe bears her fawn?(B)
2 Do you count the months till they bear?
Do you know the time they give birth?(C)
3 They crouch down and bring forth their young;
their labor pains are ended.
4 Their young thrive and grow strong in the wilds;
they leave and do not return.
5 “Who let the wild donkey(D) go free?
Who untied its ropes?
6 I gave it the wasteland(E) as its home,
the salt flats(F) as its habitat.(G)
7 It laughs(H) at the commotion in the town;
it does not hear a driver’s shout.(I)
8 It ranges the hills(J) for its pasture
and searches for any green thing.
9 “Will the wild ox(K) consent to serve you?(L)
Will it stay by your manger(M) at night?
10 Can you hold it to the furrow with a harness?(N)
Will it till the valleys behind you?
11 Will you rely on it for its great strength?(O)
Will you leave your heavy work to it?
12 Can you trust it to haul in your grain
and bring it to your threshing floor?
13 “The wings of the ostrich flap joyfully,
though they cannot compare
with the wings and feathers of the stork.(P)
14 She lays her eggs on the ground
and lets them warm in the sand,
15 unmindful that a foot may crush them,
that some wild animal may trample them.(Q)
16 She treats her young harshly,(R) as if they were not hers;
she cares not that her labor was in vain,
17 for God did not endow her with wisdom
or give her a share of good sense.(S)
18 Yet when she spreads her feathers to run,
she laughs(T) at horse and rider.
19 “Do you give the horse its strength(U)
or clothe its neck with a flowing mane?
20 Do you make it leap like a locust,(V)
striking terror(W) with its proud snorting?(X)
21 It paws fiercely, rejoicing in its strength,(Y)
and charges into the fray.(Z)
22 It laughs(AA) at fear, afraid of nothing;
it does not shy away from the sword.
23 The quiver(AB) rattles against its side,
along with the flashing spear(AC) and lance.
24 In frenzied excitement it eats up the ground;
it cannot stand still when the trumpet sounds.(AD)
25 At the blast of the trumpet(AE) it snorts, ‘Aha!’
It catches the scent of battle from afar,
the shout of commanders and the battle cry.(AF)
26 “Does the hawk take flight by your wisdom
and spread its wings toward the south?(AG)
27 Does the eagle soar at your command
and build its nest on high?(AH)
28 It dwells on a cliff and stays there at night;
a rocky crag(AI) is its stronghold.
29 From there it looks for food;(AJ)
its eyes detect it from afar.
30 Its young ones feast on blood,
and where the slain are, there it is.”(AK)

39 Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? or canst thou mark when the hinds do calve?
2 Canst thou number the months that they fulfil? or knowest thou the time when they bring forth?
3 They bow themselves, they bring forth their young ones, they cast out their sorrows.
4 Their young ones are in good liking, they grow up with corn; they go forth, and return not unto them.
5 Who hath sent out the wild ass free? or who hath loosed the bands of the wild ass?
6 Whose house I have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwellings.
7 He scorneth the multitude of the city, neither regardeth he the crying of the driver.
8 The range of the mountains is his pasture, and he searcheth after every green thing.
9 Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib?
10 Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?
11 Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him?
12 Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather it into thy barn?
13 Gavest thou the goodly wings unto the peacocks? or wings and feathers unto the ostrich?
14 Which leaveth her eggs in the earth, and warmeth them in dust,
15 And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may break them.
16 She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not her's: her labour is in vain without fear;
17 Because God hath deprived her of wisdom, neither hath he imparted to her understanding.
18 What time she lifteth up herself on high, she scorneth the horse and his rider.
19 Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder?
20 Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils is terrible.
21 He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men.
22 He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword.
23 The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield.
24 He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that it is the sound of the trumpet.
25 He saith among the trumpets, Ha, ha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.
26 Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, and stretch her wings toward the south?
27 Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high?
28 She dwelleth and abideth on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place.
29 From thence she seeketh the prey, and her eyes behold afar off.
30 Her young ones also suck up blood: and where the slain are, there is she.
