¹⁷ Have ^(A)the gates of death been revealed to you,
    or have you seen the gates of ^(B)deep darkness?

^18 (A)they loathed any kind of food,
    and they ^(B)drew near to ^(C)the gates of death.

⁵ Let gloom and ^(A)deep darkness claim it.
    Let clouds dwell upon it;
    let the blackness of the day terrify it.

^16 (A)the people dwelling in darkness
    have seen a great light,
and for those dwelling in the region and ^(B)shadow of death,
    on them a light has dawned.”

^3 (A)The snares of death encompassed me;
    the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me;
    I suffered distress and anguish.

¹⁴ He brought them out of ^(A)darkness and the shadow of death,
    and ^(B)burst their bonds apart.
