37 Mon coeur est tout tremblant, Il bondit hors de sa place.
2 Écoutez, écoutez le frémissement de sa voix, Le grondement qui sort de sa bouche!
3 Il le fait rouler dans toute l'étendue des cieux, Et son éclair brille jusqu'aux extrémités de la terre.
4 Puis éclate un rugissement: il tonne de sa voix majestueuse; Il ne retient plus l'éclair, dès que sa voix retentit.
5 Dieu tonne avec sa voix d'une manière merveilleuse; Il fait de grandes choses que nous ne comprenons pas.
6 Il dit à la neige: Tombe sur la terre! Il le dit à la pluie, même aux plus fortes pluies.
7 Il met un sceau sur la main de tous les hommes, Afin que tous se reconnaissent comme ses créatures.
8 L'animal sauvage se retire dans une caverne, Et se couche dans sa tanière.
9 L'ouragan vient du midi, Et le froid, des vents du nord.
10 Par son souffle Dieu produit la glace, Il réduit l'espace où se répandaient les eaux.
11 Il charge de vapeurs les nuages, Il les disperse étincelants;
12 Leurs évolutions varient selon ses desseins, Pour l'accomplissement de tout ce qu'il leur ordonne, Sur la face de la terre habitée;
13 C'est comme une verge dont il frappe sa terre, Ou comme un signe de son amour, qu'il les fait apparaître.
14 Job, sois attentif à ces choses! Considère encore les merveilles de Dieu!
15 Sais-tu comment Dieu les dirige, Et fait briller son nuage étincelant?
16 Comprends-tu le balancement des nuées, Les merveilles de celui dont la science est parfaite?
17 Sais-tu pourquoi tes vêtements sont chauds Quand la terre se repose par le vent du midi?
18 Peux-tu comme lui étendre les cieux, Aussi solides qu'un miroir de fonte?
19 Fais-nous connaître ce que nous devons lui dire; Nous sommes trop ignorants pour nous adresser à lui.
20 Lui annoncera-t-on que je parlerai? Mais quel est l'homme qui désire sa perte?
21 On ne peut fixer le soleil qui resplendit dans les cieux, Lorsqu'un vent passe et en ramène la pureté;
22 Le septentrion le rend éclatant comme l'or. Oh! que la majesté de Dieu est redoutable!
23 Nous ne saurions parvenir jusqu'au Tout Puissant, Grand par la force, Par la justice, par le droit souverain: Il ne répond pas!
24 C'est pourquoi les hommes doivent le craindre; Il ne porte les regards sur aucun sage.

37 Ja, darüber erzittert mein Herz
und fährt auf von seiner Stelle.
2 Höret auf das Donnern seiner Stimme
und auf den Ton, der aus seinem Munde geht!
3 Er läßt ihn dahinfahren unter dem ganzen Himmel
und sein Licht bis zu den Enden der Erde.
4 Hinter ihm her brüllt der Donner, er donnert mit seiner majestätischen Stimme,
und er spart damit nicht, damit seine Stimme gehört werde.
5 Gott donnert mit seiner Stimme wunderbar;
er tut große Dinge, die wir nicht verstehen.
6 Er gebeut dem Schnee: Falle auf die Erde!
und läßt Regen fließen, heftige Regengüsse.
7 Aller Menschen Hand versiegelt er,
damit alle Leute sein Werk erkennen mögen.
8 Die Tiere suchen ihre Schlupfwinkel
auf und bleiben in ihren Höhlen.
9 Aus der Kammer [des Südens] kommt der Sturm
und vom Norden her die Kälte.
10 Vom Hauche Gottes gibt es Eis,
und die weiten Wasser frieren zu.
11 Mit Wasserfülle belastet er die Wolken,
er zerstreut das Lichtgewölk.
12 Und dieses wendet sich überall hin, wohin er es lenkt,
auszurichten alles, was er ihm befiehlt,
auf dem ganzen Erdenrund, -
13 bald zur Rute,
bald zur Wohltat für sein Land.
14 Merke dir das, Hiob,
stehe stille
und erwäge Gottes Wunder!
15 Weißt du, wie Gott ihnen Befehl gibt,
wie er das Licht seiner Wolken leuchten läßt?
16 Verstehst du das Schweben der Wolken,
die Wunder dessen, der an Verstand vollkommen ist?
17 Du, dem die Kleider zu warm werden,
wenn es auf der Erde schwül wird vom Mittagswind,
18 wölbst du mit Ihm das Firmament,
daß es feststeht wie ein gegossener Spiegel?
19 Lehre uns, was wir ihm sagen sollen;
wir können nichts vorbringen vor Finsternis.
20 Soll ihm gemeldet werden, daß ich rede?
Oder sollte der Mensch wünschen, vertilgt zu werden?
21 Jetzt zwar sehen wir das Licht nicht, das doch leuchtend hinter den Wolken steht;
aber der Wind wird sich erheben und sie wegfegen.
22 Von Mitternacht her kommt Goldglanz;
Gott ist von wunderbarer Pracht umgeben.
23 Den Allmächtigen finden wir nicht;
er ist von unbegreiflicher Kraft,
voll Recht und Gerechtigkeit; er beugt sie nicht.
24 Darum fürchten ihn die Menschen;
er aber sieht nicht an, die sich weise dünken.

37 “At this my heart pounds(A)
and leaps from its place.
2 Listen!(B) Listen to the roar of his voice,(C)
to the rumbling that comes from his mouth.(D)
3 He unleashes his lightning(E) beneath the whole heaven
and sends it to the ends of the earth.(F)
4 After that comes the sound of his roar;
he thunders(G) with his majestic voice.(H)
When his voice resounds,
he holds nothing back.
5 God’s voice thunders(I) in marvelous ways;(J)
he does great things beyond our understanding.(K)
6 He says to the snow,(L) ‘Fall on the earth,’
and to the rain shower, ‘Be a mighty downpour.’(M)
7 So that everyone he has made may know his work,(N)
he stops all people from their labor.[a](O)
8 The animals take cover;(P)
they remain in their dens.(Q)
9 The tempest comes out from its chamber,(R)
the cold from the driving winds.(S)
10 The breath of God produces ice,
and the broad waters become frozen.(T)
11 He loads the clouds with moisture;(U)
he scatters his lightning(V) through them.(W)
12 At his direction they swirl around
over the face of the whole earth
to do whatever he commands them.(X)
13 He brings the clouds to punish people,(Y)
or to water his earth and show his love.(Z)
14 “Listen(AA) to this, Job;
stop and consider God’s wonders.(AB)
15 Do you know how God controls the clouds
and makes his lightning(AC) flash?(AD)
16 Do you know how the clouds hang poised,(AE)
those wonders of him who has perfect knowledge?(AF)
17 You who swelter in your clothes
when the land lies hushed under the south wind,(AG)
18 can you join him in spreading out the skies,(AH)
hard as a mirror of cast bronze?(AI)
19 “Tell us what we should say to him;(AJ)
we cannot draw up our case(AK) because of our darkness.(AL)
20 Should he be told that I want to speak?
Would anyone ask to be swallowed up?
21 Now no one can look at the sun,(AM)
bright as it is in the skies
after the wind has swept them clean.
22 Out of the north he comes in golden splendor;(AN)
God comes in awesome majesty.(AO)
23 The Almighty is beyond our reach and exalted in power;(AP)
in his justice(AQ) and great righteousness, he does not oppress.(AR)
24 Therefore, people revere him,(AS)
for does he not have regard for all the wise(AT) in heart?[b]”
