³² Nevertheless, when we are judged in this way by the Lord, we are being disciplined^(A) so that we will not be finally condemned with the world.^(B)

¹⁵ Here is a trustworthy saying^(A) that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners^(B)—of whom I am the worst.

²⁰ The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase.^(A) But where sin increased, grace increased all the more,^(B)

¹⁷ “When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! ¹⁸ I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned^(A) against heaven and against you. ¹⁹ I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.’

²⁸ Because they consider all the offenses they have committed and turn away from them, that person will surely live; they will not die.^{(A) 29} Yet the Israelites say, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’ Are my ways unjust, people of Israel? Is it not your ways that are unjust?

³⁰ “Therefore, you Israelites, I will judge each of you according to your own ways, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent!^(B) Turn away from all your offenses; then sin will not be your downfall.^{(C) 31} Rid^(D) yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart^(E) and a new spirit.
