¹⁷ “None of the daughters of Israel shall serve in an illicit shrine; none of the sons of Israel shall serve in an illicit shrine.^(A)

Nadab and Abihu

10 Now Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu each took his censer, put fire in it, and laid incense on it, and they offered unholy fire before the Lord, such as he had not commanded them.^{(A) 2} And fire came out from the presence of the Lord and consumed them, and they died before the Lord.^(B)

⁷ But Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the Lord, and the Lord put him to death.^{(A) 8} Then Judah said to Onan, “Go in to your brother’s wife and perform the duty of a brother-in-law to her; raise up offspring for your brother.”^{(B) 9} But since Onan knew that the offspring would not be his, he spilled his semen on the ground whenever he went in to his brother’s wife, so that he would not give offspring to his brother.^{(C) 10} What he did was displeasing in the sight of the Lord, and he put him to death also.

²⁴ Then the Lord rained on Sodom and Gomorrah sulfur and fire from the Lord out of heaven,^{(A) 25} and he overthrew those cities and all the plain and all the inhabitants of the cities and what grew on the ground.^(B)

⁵ and they called to Lot, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us, so that we may know them.”^(A)
