¹³ “The godless in heart^(A) harbor resentment;^(B)
    even when he fetters them, they do not cry for help.^(C)

⁸ But if people are bound in chains,^(A)
    held fast by cords of affliction,^(B)

¹⁰ Some sat in darkness,^(A) in utter darkness,
    prisoners suffering^(B) in iron chains,^(C)

⁹ “People cry out^(A) under a load of oppression;^(B)
    they plead for relief from the arm of the powerful.^(C)
10 But no one says, ‘Where is God my Maker,^(D)
    who gives songs^(E) in the night,^(F)

⁸ For what hope have the godless^(A) when they are cut off,
    when God takes away their life?^(B)
9 Does God listen to their cry
    when distress comes upon them?^(C)
10 Will they find delight in the Almighty?^(D)
    Will they call on God at all times?

⁴ But you even undermine piety
    and hinder devotion to God.^(A)
