¹⁰ He makes them listen^(A) to correction^(B)
    and commands them to repent of their evil.^(C)

⁶ Seek^(A) the Lord while he may be found;^(B)
    call^(C) on him while he is near.
⁷ Let the wicked forsake^(D) their ways
    and the unrighteous their thoughts.^(E)
Let them turn^(F) to the Lord, and he will have mercy^(G) on them,
    and to our God, for he will freely pardon.^(H)

¹⁵ But those who suffer^(A) he delivers in their suffering;^(B)
    he speaks^(C) to them in their affliction.^(D)

⁵ The Sovereign Lord^(A) has opened my ears;^(B)
    I have not been rebellious,^(C)
    I have not turned away.

¹⁷ This is what the Lord says—
    your Redeemer,^(A) the Holy One^(B) of Israel:
“I am the Lord your God,
    who teaches^(C) you what is best for you,
    who directs^(D) you in the way^(E) you should go.

¹⁶ Wash^(A) and make yourselves clean.
    Take your evil deeds out of my sight;^(B)
    stop doing wrong.^(C)
17 Learn to do right;^(D) seek justice.^(E)
    Defend the oppressed.^[a](F)
Take up the cause of the fatherless;^(G)
    plead the case of the widow.^(H)

¹⁸ “Come now, let us settle the matter,”^(I)
    says the Lord.
“Though your sins are like scarlet,
    they shall be as white as snow;^(J)
though they are red as crimson,
    they shall be like wool.^(K)
19 If you are willing and obedient,^(L)
    you will eat the good things of the land;^(M)
20 but if you resist and rebel,^(N)
    you will be devoured by the sword.”^(O)
For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.^(P)

¹⁶ he may speak^(A) in their ears
    and terrify them^(B) with warnings,^(C)
17 to turn them from wrongdoing
    and keep them from pride,^(D)
18 to preserve them from the pit,^(E)
    their lives from perishing by the sword.^[a](F)

¹⁹ “Or someone may be chastened^(G) on a bed of pain^(H)
    with constant distress in their bones,^(I)
20 so that their body finds food^(J) repulsive
    and their soul loathes the choicest meal.^(K)
21 Their flesh wastes away to nothing,
    and their bones,^(L) once hidden, now stick out.^(M)
22 They draw near to the pit,^(N)
    and their life to the messengers of death.^[b](O)
23 Yet if there is an angel at their side,
    a messenger,^(P) one out of a thousand,
    sent to tell them how to be upright,^(Q)
