Appel à rechercher Dieu
35 Elihu reprit:
2 «Penses-tu avoir raison?
Tu te prétends juste devant Dieu,
3 tu dis: ‘Si je ne pèche pas, quelle importance pour toi?
Et moi, qu’est-ce que j’y gagne?’
4 »C'est moi qui vais te répondre,
ainsi qu’à tes amis en même temps.
5 Considère le ciel et regarde!
Observe les nuages: ils sont bien au-dessus de toi!
6 Si tu pèches, quel tort lui causes-tu?
Et quand tes révoltes se multiplient, en quoi cela le touche-t-il?
7 Si tu es juste, quel cadeau lui fais-tu
ou que reçoit-il de ta part?
8 »Ta méchanceté ne peut atteindre qu'un homme comme toi,
ta justice ne touchera qu’un être humain.
9 On crie à cause de la violence de l’oppression,
on appelle au secours à cause des actes des grands,
10 mais personne ne dit: ‘Où est Dieu, celui qui m’a fait,
qui inspire des chants d'allégresse pendant la nuit,
11 qui nous instruit par les bêtes de la terre
et nous enseigne la sagesse par les oiseaux du ciel?’
12 On a beau crier alors, Dieu ne répond pas,
à cause de l’arrogance des hommes mauvais.
13 Vraiment, il ne sert à rien de crier:
Dieu n'écoute pas,
le Tout-Puissant ne le remarque pas.
14 »Même si tu affirmes ne pas le remarquer,
ta cause est devant lui: attends-le!
15 Mais maintenant, parce que sa colère n’intervient pas encore
et qu’il semble indifférent aux pires offenses,
16 Job ouvre la bouche pour parler dans le vide,
il multiplie les propos sans rien savoir.»

Elihu Condemns Job
35 And Elihu answered and said:
2 “Do you think this to be just?
Do you say, (A)‘It is my right before God,’
3 that you ask, (B)‘What advantage have I?
How am I better off than if I had sinned?’
4 I will answer you
and (C)your friends with you.
5 (D)Look at the heavens, and see;
and behold the clouds, which are higher than you.
6 If you have sinned, (E)what do you accomplish against him?
And if your transgressions are multiplied, what do you do to him?
7 (F)If you are righteous, what do you give to him?
Or what does he receive from your hand?
8 Your wickedness concerns a man like yourself,
and your righteousness (G)a son of man.
9 “Because of the multitude of (H)oppressions people (I)cry out;
they call for help because of the arm of (J)the mighty.[a]
10 But none says, ‘Where is God my (K)Maker,
who gives (L)songs in the night,
11 who teaches us (M)more than the beasts of the earth
and makes us wiser than the birds of the heavens?’
12 There they (N)cry out, but he does not answer,
because of the pride of evil men.
13 Surely God does not hear an empty cry,
nor does the Almighty regard it.
14 How much less when you say that you (O)do not see him,
that the case is before him, and you are (P)waiting for him!
15 And now, because (Q)his anger does not punish,
and he does not take much note of transgression,[b]
16 Job opens his mouth in empty talk;
he (R)multiplies words (S)without knowledge.”
