Job 35

35 Then Elihu continued, saying:
2 Do you think it is just when you say,
‘I am righteous before God’?
3 For you ask, ‘What does it profit you,[a]
and what benefit comes to me, if I do not sin? ’(A)
4 I will answer you
and your friends with you.
5 Look at the heavens and see;
gaze at the clouds high above you.
6 If you sin, how does it affect God?
If you multiply your transgressions, what does it do to him?
7 If you are righteous, what do you give him,
or what does he receive from your hand?(B)
8 Your wickedness affects a person like yourself,
and your righteousness, a son of man.[b]
9 People cry out because of severe oppression;
they shout for help because of the power of the mighty.(C)
10 But no one asks, ‘Where is God my Maker,(D)
who provides us with songs in the night,(E)
11 who gives us more understanding than the animals of the earth
and makes us wiser than the birds of the sky? ’(F)
12 There they cry out, but he does not answer,
because of the pride of evil people.(G)
13 Indeed, God does not listen to empty cries,
and the Almighty does not take note of it –
14 how much less when[c] you complain[d]
that you do not see him,
that your case(H) is before him
and you are waiting(I) for him.
15 But now, because God’s anger does not punish
and he does not pay attention to transgression,[e]
16 Job opens his mouth in vain
and multiplies words without knowledge.(J)

2 “Gióp ơi, anh nói không đúng,
Anh bảo, ‘Tôi phải hơn Thượng Đế,’
3 anh cũng nói, ‘Làm vui lòng Ngài thì ích lợi gì?
Tôi không phạm tội cũng chẳng ích gì.’
4 Tôi sẽ trả lời anh và các bạn hữu anh.
5 Hãy nhìn lên trời,
ngó các đám mây trên cao kia.
6 Nếu anh phạm tội thì chẳng thiệt hại gì cho Thượng Đế;
dù cho tội lỗi anh đầy tràn,
chúng chẳng làm gì cho Ngài;
7 Dù cho anh đạo đức,
anh chẳng cho Thượng Đế được điều gì;
Ngài chẳng nhận gì từ tay anh.
8 Đường lối ác độc của anh chỉ hại một người như anh thôi,
còn điều tốt anh làm chỉ giúp được những con người khác.
9 Người ta kêu cứu khi gặp cảnh khốn khó;
họ van xin kẻ quyền thế giúp đỡ.
10 Nhưng không ai hỏi,
‘Thượng Đế, Đấng Tạo Hóa tôi,
Đấng ban cho chúng tôi bài hát trong đêm,
11 Ngài tạo làm cho chúng ta khôn ngoan hơn mọi loài thú trên đất,
và khôn hơn các loài chim trời.’
12 Thượng Đế không thèm trả lời kẻ ác khi họ kêu cứu,
vì chúng nó tự phụ.
13 Ngài không thèm nghe tiếng van xin vô ích của chúng;
Đấng Toàn Năng không thèm lưu ý tới chúng.
14 Ngài càng ít lưu ý tới anh,

Good News Translation
35 1-2 It is not right, Job, for you to say
that you are innocent in God's sight,
3 or to ask God, “How does my sin affect you?
What have I gained by not sinning?”
4 I am going to answer you and your friends too.
5 Look at the sky! See how high the clouds are!
6 (A)If you sin, that does no harm to God.
If you do wrong many times, does that affect him?
7 Do you help God by being so righteous?
There is nothing God needs from you.
8 Others suffer from your sins,
and the good you do helps them.
9 When people are oppressed, they groan;
they cry for someone to save them.
10 But they don't turn to God, their Creator,
who gives them hope in their darkest hours.
11 They don't turn to God, who makes us wise,
wiser than any animal or bird.
12 They cry for help, but God doesn't answer,
for they are proud and evil.
13 It is useless for them to cry out;
Almighty God does not see or hear them.
14 Job, you say you can't see God;
but wait patiently—your case is before him.
15 You think that God does not punish,
that he pays little attention to sin.
16 It is useless for you to go on talking;
it is clear you don't know what you are saying.
