Job 35
Christian Standard Bible
35 Then Elihu continued, saying:
2 Do you think it is just when you say,
“I am righteous before God”?
3 For you ask, “What does it profit you,[a]
and what benefit comes to me, if I do not sin?” (A)
4 I will answer you
and your friends with you.
5 Look at the heavens and see;
gaze at the clouds high above you.
6 If you sin, how does it affect God?
If you multiply your transgressions, what does it do to him?
7 If you are righteous, what do you give him,
or what does he receive from your hand?(B)
8 Your wickedness affects a person like yourself,
and your righteousness, a son of man.[b]
9 People cry out because of severe oppression;
they shout for help because of the power of the mighty.(C)
10 But no one asks, “Where is God my Maker,(D)
who provides us with songs in the night,(E)
11 who gives us more understanding than the animals of the earth
and makes us wiser than the birds of the sky?” (F)
12 There they cry out, but he does not answer,
because of the pride of evil people.(G)
13 Indeed, God does not listen to empty cries,
and the Almighty does not take note of it—
14 how much less when[c] you complain[d]
that you do not see him,
that your case(H) is before him
and you are waiting(I) for him.
15 But now, because God’s anger does not punish
and he does not pay attention to transgression,[e]
16 Job opens his mouth in vain
and multiplies words without knowledge.(J)

35 Then Elihu continued and said,
2 “Do you think this is in accordance with (A)justice?
Do you say, ‘My righteousness is more than God’s’?
3 For you say, ‘(B)What advantage will it be to [a]You?
(C)What benefit will I have, more than if I had sinned?’
4 I will answer you,
And your friends with you.
5 (D)Look at the heavens and see;
And look at (E)the clouds—they are higher than you.
6 If you have sinned, (F)what do you accomplish against Him?
And if your wrongdoings are many, what do you do to Him?
7 If you are righteous, (G)what do you give to Him,
Or what does He receive from your hand?
8 Your wickedness is for a man like yourself,
And your righteousness is for a son of man.
9 “Because of the (H)multitude of oppressions they cry out;
They cry for help because of the arm (I)of the mighty.
10 But (J)no one says, ‘Where is God my Maker,
Who (K)gives songs in the night,
11 Who (L)teaches us more than the animals of the earth
And makes us wiser than the birds of the sky?’
12 There (M)they cry out, but He does not answer
Because of the pride of evil people.
13 (N)God certainly will not listen to [b]an empty cry,
Nor will the Almighty regard it.
14 How much less when (O)you say you do not look at Him,
The (P)case is before Him, and you must wait for Him!
15 And now, because He has not avenged His anger,
Nor has He acknowledged [c]wrongdoing well,
16 So Job opens his mouth with empty words;
He multiplies words (Q)without knowledge.”

Dio non è indifferente ai casi umani
35 Eliu riprese a dire:
creato,
che concede nella notte canti di gioia;
11 che ci rende più istruiti delle bestie
selvatiche,
che ci fa più saggi degli uccelli del cielo?».
12 Si grida, allora, ma egli non risponde
di fronte alla superbia dei malvagi.
13 Certo è falso dire: «Dio non ascolta
e l'Onnipotente non presta attenzione»;
14 più ancora quando tu dici che non lo vedi,
che la tua causa sta innanzi a lui e tu in lui speri;
15 così pure quando dici che la sua ira non punisce
né si cura molto dell'iniquità.
16 Giobbe dunque apre invano la sua bocca
e senza cognizione moltiplica le chiacchiere.
