¹² He does not answer^(A) when people cry out
    because of the arrogance^(B) of the wicked.^(C)

²⁸ “Then they will call to me but I will not answer;^(A)
    they will look for me but will not find me,^(B)

³ Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy on us,
    for we have endured no end of contempt.
⁴ We have endured no end
    of ridicule from the arrogant,
    of contempt from the proud.

¹⁴ I will ascend above the tops of the clouds;^(A)
    I will make myself like the Most High.”^(B)
15 But you are brought down^(C) to the realm of the dead,^(D)
    to the depths^(E) of the pit.^(F)

¹⁶ Those who see you stare at you,
    they ponder your fate:^(G)
“Is this the man who shook^(H) the earth
    and made kingdoms tremble,
¹⁷ the man who made the world a wilderness,^(I)
    who overthrew^(J) its cities
    and would not let his captives go home?”^(K)

⁶ Therefore pride^(A) is their necklace;^(B)
    they clothe themselves with violence.^(C)
7 From their callous hearts^(D) comes iniquity^[a];
    their evil imaginations have no limits.
⁸ They scoff, and speak with malice;^(E)
    with arrogance^(F) they threaten oppression.^(G)

⁴¹ They cried for help, but there was no one to save them^(A)—
    to the Lord, but he did not answer.^(B)
