Elihu Vindicates God’s Justice
34 Then Elihu continued and said,
2 “Hear my words, you wise men,
And listen to me, you who understand.
3 For (A)the ear tests words
As the palate tastes food.
4 Let us choose for ourselves what is right;
Let us understand among ourselves what is good.
5 For Job has said, ‘(B)I am righteous,
But (C)God has taken away my right;
6 [a]Should I lie about my right?
My [b](D)wound is incurable, though I am without wrongdoing.’
7 What man is like Job,
Who (E)drinks up derision like water,
8 Who goes (F)in company with the workers of injustice,
And walks with wicked people?
9 For he has said, ‘(G)It is of no use to a man
When he becomes friends with God.’
10 “Therefore, listen to me, you men of understanding.
Far be it from God to (H)do evil,
And from the Almighty to do wrong.
11 For He repays a person for (I)his work,
And lets things happen in correspondence to a man’s [c]behavior.
12 (J)God certainly will not act wickedly,
And the Almighty will not pervert justice.
13 Who (K)gave Him authority over the earth?
And who (L)has placed the whole world on Him?
14 If He were to [d]determine to do so,
If He were to (M)gather His [e]spirit and His breath to Himself,
15 [f](N)Humanity would perish together,
And mankind would (O)return to dust.
16 “But if you have understanding, hear this;
Listen to the sound of my words.
17 Shall (P)one who hates justice rule?
And (Q)will you condemn the righteous mighty One,
18 Who says to a king, ‘You worthless one,’
To nobles, ‘You wicked one’;
19 Who shows no (R)partiality to the prominent,
Nor regards the rich as above the poor,
Since they are all the (S)work of His hands?
20 In a moment they die, and (T)at midnight
People are shaken and pass away,
And (U)the powerful are taken away without a hand.
21 “For (V)His eyes are upon the ways of a person,
And He sees all his steps.
22 There is (W)no darkness or deep shadow
Where the workers of injustice can hide themselves.
23 For He does not (X)need to consider a person further,
That he should go before God in judgment.
24 He breaks in pieces the (Y)mighty without investigation,
And sets others in their place.
25 Therefore He (Z)knows their deeds,
And (AA)He overthrows them in the night,
And they are crushed.
26 He (AB)strikes them like the wicked
[g]In a public place,
27 Because they (AC)turned aside from following Him,
And (AD)had no regard for any of His ways,
28 So that they caused (AE)the cry of the poor to come to Him,
And that He would (AF)hear the cry of the afflicted—
29 When He keeps quiet, who can condemn?
And when He hides His face, who then can look at Him,
That is, regarding both nation and a person?—
30 So that (AG)godless people would not rule,
Nor be snares for the people.
31 “For has anyone said to God,
‘I have endured punishment;
I will not offend anymore;
32 Teach me what I do not see;
If I have (AH)done wrong,
I will not do it again’?
33 Shall God (AI)repay on your terms, because you have rejected His?
For you must choose, and not I;
Therefore declare what you know.
34 Men of understanding will say to me,
And a wise man who hears me,
35 ‘Job (AJ)speaks without knowledge,
And his words are without wisdom.
36 Oh that Job were tested [h]to the limit,
Because [i]he answers (AK)like sinners.
37 For he adds (AL)rebellion to his sin;
He (AM)claps his hands among us,
And multiplies his words against God.’”

34 Furthermore Elihu answered and said,
2 Hear my words, O ye wise men; and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.
3 For the ear trieth words, as the mouth tasteth meat.
4 Let us choose to us judgment: let us know among ourselves what is good.
5 For Job hath said, I am righteous: and God hath taken away my judgment.
6 Should I lie against my right? my wound is incurable without transgression.
7 What man is like Job, who drinketh up scorning like water?
8 Which goeth in company with the workers of iniquity, and walketh with wicked men.
9 For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.
10 Therefore hearken unto me ye men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.
11 For the work of a man shall he render unto him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.
12 Yea, surely God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.
13 Who hath given him a charge over the earth? or who hath disposed the whole world?
14 If he set his heart upon man, if he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath;
15 All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust.
16 If now thou hast understanding, hear this: hearken to the voice of my words.
17 Shall even he that hateth right govern? and wilt thou condemn him that is most just?
18 Is it fit to say to a king, Thou art wicked? and to princes, Ye are ungodly?
19 How much less to him that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor? for they all are the work of his hands.
20 In a moment shall they die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and pass away: and the mighty shall be taken away without hand.
21 For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his goings.
22 There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.
23 For he will not lay upon man more than right; that he should enter into judgment with God.
24 He shall break in pieces mighty men without number, and set others in their stead.
25 Therefore he knoweth their works, and he overturneth them in the night, so that they are destroyed.
26 He striketh them as wicked men in the open sight of others;
27 Because they turned back from him, and would not consider any of his ways:
28 So that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he heareth the cry of the afflicted.
29 When he giveth quietness, who then can make trouble? and when he hideth his face, who then can behold him? whether it be done against a nation, or against a man only:
30 That the hypocrite reign not, lest the people be ensnared.
31 Surely it is meet to be said unto God, I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more:
32 That which I see not teach thou me: if I have done iniquity, I will do no more.
33 Should it be according to thy mind? he will recompense it, whether thou refuse, or whether thou choose; and not I: therefore speak what thou knowest.
34 Let men of understanding tell me, and let a wise man hearken unto me.
35 Job hath spoken without knowledge, and his words were without wisdom.
36 My desire is that Job may be tried unto the end because of his answers for wicked men.
37 For he addeth rebellion unto his sin, he clappeth his hands among us, and multiplieth his words against God.

34 Ê-li-hu tiếp tục và nói:
2 Hỡi những người khôn ngoan, xin nghe những lời tôi nói;
Hỡi những người trí thức, xin lắng tai nghe tôi.
3 Vì như lỗ tai nghe để thẩm định lời nói,
Như miệng nếm để biết vị thức ăn,
4 Chúng ta phải chọn cho mình điều gì là đúng;
Chúng ta phải quyết định điều gì là tốt giữa chúng ta.
5 Vì ông Gióp đã nói, “Tôi là người ngay lành vô tội,
Thế mà Ðức Chúa Trời đã cất đi quyền vô tội ấy của tôi.
6 Mặc dù tôi có quyền ấy, tôi lại bị xem như kẻ nói dối;
Tôi bị thương tích đến nỗi không còn cách nào chữa trị, dù bản thân tôi không vi phạm lỗi gì.”
7 Có người nào giống như ông Gióp,
Một người uống những lời nhạo báng như uống nước,
8 Một người đi cùng những kẻ gây nên tội ác,
Một người đi chung với những kẻ gian ác chăng?
9 Vì ông ấy đã nói, “Con người chẳng có lợi gì khi làm cho Ðức Chúa Trời vui lòng cả.”
10 Vì thế xin nghe tôi nói, hỡi những người trí thức:
Ðức Chúa Trời không thể làm điều gian ác,
Ðấng Toàn Năng không làm điều tội lỗi bao giờ.
11 Vì Ngài sẽ báo trả mỗi người tùy theo công việc họ làm;
Ngài sẽ khiến mỗi người chuốc lấy hậu quả của mình tùy theo con đường họ chọn.
12 Chắc chắn Ðức Chúa Trời không bao giờ làm điều gian ác;
Ðấng Toàn Năng không bẻ cong công lý bao giờ.
13 Ai đã lập Ngài quản cai toàn trái đất?
Ai đã chỉ định Ngài quản lý cả thế gian?
14 Nếu Ngài chỉ quan tâm đến Ngài mà thôi,
Nếu Ngài thu hồi linh khí và hơi thở Ngài đã ban ra,
15 Mọi loài xác thịt sẽ cùng nhau chết mất;
Mọi người ắt sẽ quay về bụi đất tức thì.
16 Nếu ông là người trí thức, xin ông nghe tôi nói;
Xin lắng nghe những gì tôi nói tiếp sau đây.
17 Có ai ghét công lý mà được lập lên để cai trị chăng?
Ông dám lên án Ðấng thực thi công lý đầy quyền năng sao?
18 Ai dám nói với vua rằng, “Ngươi là đồ vô dụng,”
Hay nói với người có quyền rằng, “Ngươi là kẻ gian ác” chăng?
19 Nhưng Ngài chẳng thiên vị kẻ có quyền hành;
Ngài cũng không phán quyết dựa theo tiêu chuẩn giàu nghèo;
Vì tất cả đều là công việc của tay Ngài tạo dựng.
20 Rồi đây chỉ trong giây lát họ thảy đều chết hết;
Giữa đêm khuya họ run rẩy và qua đời;
Mạng kẻ quyền thế bị lấy đi mà không cần ai phải ra tay cả,
21 Vì mắt Ngài xem xét các đường lối của mỗi người;
Ngài thấy rõ mọi bước chân của từng người một.
22 Không có bóng tối hay sự mờ ám nào
Có thể che giấu những kẻ làm ác khỏi Ngài được.
23 Vì một khi Ngài đã ban phán quyết về ai, Ngài không cần tái xét;
Ðức Chúa Trời không cần kẻ ấy phải ra ứng hầu một lần nữa để được tái xử.
24 Ngài đập tan bọn cường quyền mà không cần tra vấn;
Ngài lập những kẻ khác lên thay thế chúng dễ dàng.
25 Ngài quan sát các công việc của chúng;
Chỉ trong một đêm Ngài lật đổ chúng và chúng bị tan tành.
26 Ngài đánh chúng vì sự gian ác của chúng
Trước mắt mọi người;
27 Vì chúng đã lìa bỏ và không theo Ngài nữa,
Vì chúng đã chẳng coi các đường lối của Ngài ra gì.
28 Chúng đã làm cho tiếng kêu của người nghèo thấu đến Ngài;
Phải, Ngài đã nghe tiếng khóc của những người bị khốn khổ.
29 Khi Ngài muốn yên lặng, ai dám đặt vấn đề thắc mắc?
Khi Ngài muốn giấu mặt, dù cả nước hay chỉ một cá nhân, ai có thể thấy được Ngài chăng?
30 Ngài không muốn kẻ vô tín vô luân được nắm quyền cai trị;
Ðể chúng không có cơ hội đưa dân sa vào bẫy diệt vong.
31 Giả sử có người nào thưa với Ðức Chúa Trời rằng,
“Tôi đã chịu lấy hình phạt rồi và tôi sẽ không phạm tội nữa.
32 Xin chỉ dạy tôi những gì tôi chưa nhận thấy;
Nếu tôi đã làm gì có tội, tôi sẽ không tái phạm nữa.”
33 Liệu Ngài sẽ đền bù ông những gì ông muốn,
Vì bây giờ ông mới chịu nhìn nhận rằng ông không đúng hay sao?
Xin ông cứ chọn lấy đi, chứ không phải tôi đâu.
Vậy những gì ông biết, xin ông cứ nói ra đi.
34 Những người trí thức đã nói với tôi;
Những bậc thức giả mà tôi đã có dịp hầu chuyện bảo rằng,
35 “Ông Gióp nói mà không hiểu những gì ông ấy nói;
Lời lẽ của ông ấy chẳng bày tỏ sự thông sáng chút nào.
36 Ôi ước chi ông ấy cứ bị thử thách đến cùng,
Vì những lời đáp của ông ấy giống những lời của phường gian ác.
37 Bây giờ ông ấy đã chất thêm tội bội nghịch vào những tội lỗi của ông ấy;
Ông ấy đã vỗ tay mỉa mai chúng ta và đã gia thêm những lời xúc phạm đến Ðức Chúa Trời.”
