Segundo discurso de Eliú
34 También dijo Eliú:
2 «Vosotros los sabios, escuchad mis palabras;
vosotros los instruidos, prestadme atención.
3 El oído distingue las palabras,
como saborea el paladar la comida.
4 Examinemos juntos este caso;
decidamos entre nosotros lo mejor.
5 »Job alega: “Soy inocente,
pero Dios se niega a hacerme justicia.
6 Tengo que resultar un mentiroso,
a pesar de que soy justo;
sus flechas me hieren de muerte,
a pesar de que no he pecado”.
7 ¿Dónde hay alguien como Job,
que tiene el sarcasmo en la punta de la lengua?[a]
8 Le encanta hacer amistad con los malhechores
y andar en compañía de los malvados.
9 ¡Y nos alega que ningún provecho saca el hombre
tratando de agradar a Dios!
10 »Escuchadme, hombres entendidos:
¡Es inconcebible que Dios haga lo malo,
que el Todopoderoso cometa injusticias!
11 Dios paga al hombre según sus obras;
lo trata como se merece.
12 ¡Ni pensar que Dios cometa injusticias!
¡El Todopoderoso no pervierte el derecho!
13 ¿Quién le dio poder sobre la tierra?
¿Quién lo puso a cargo de todo el mundo?
14 Si pensara en retirarnos su espíritu,[b]
en quitarnos su hálito de vida,
15 todo el género humano perecería,
¡la humanidad entera volvería a ser polvo!
16 »Escucha esto, si eres sensato;
presta atención a lo que digo.
17 ¿Puede acaso gobernar quien detesta la justicia?
¿Condenarás entonces al Dios justo y poderoso,
18 al que niega el valor de los reyes
y denuncia la maldad de los nobles?
19 Dios no se muestra parcial con los príncipes
ni favorece a los ricos más que a los pobres.
¡Unos y otros son obra de sus manos!
20 Perecen de pronto, en medio de la noche;
la gente se estremece y muere;
los poderosos son derrocados
sin intervención humana.
21 »Los ojos de Dios ven los caminos del hombre;
él vigila cada uno de sus pasos.
22 No hay lugares oscuros ni sombras profundas
que puedan esconder a los malhechores.
23 Dios no tiene que examinarlos
para someterlos a juicio.
24 No tiene que indagar para derrocar a los poderosos
y sustituirlos por otros.
25 Dios toma nota de todo lo que hacen;
por la noche los derroca, y quedan aplastados;
26 los castiga por su maldad
para escarmiento de todos,[c]
27 pues dejaron de seguirlo
y no tuvieron en cuenta sus caminos.
28 Hicieron llegar a su presencia
el clamor de los pobres y necesitados,
y Dios lo escuchó.
29 ¿Pero quién puede condenarlo
si él decide guardar silencio?
¿Quién puede verlo si oculta su rostro?
Él está por encima de pueblos y personas,
30 para que no reinen los malvados
ni le tiendan trampas a su pueblo.
31 »Supongamos que le dijeras:
“Soy culpable; no volveré a ofenderte.
32 Enséñame lo que no alcanzo a percibir;
si he cometido algo malo, no volveré a hacerlo”.
33 ¿Tendría Dios que recompensarte
como tú quieres que lo haga,
aunque lo hayas rechazado?
No seré yo quien lo decida, sino tú,
así que expresa lo que piensas.
34 »Que me digan los sabios
y vosotros los entendidos que me escucháis:
35 “Job no sabe lo que dice;
en sus palabras no hay inteligencia”.
36 ¡Que sea Job examinado,
pues como un malvado ha respondido!
37 A su pecado ha añadido rebeldía;
en nuestra propia cara se ha burlado de nosotros,
y se ha excedido en sus palabras contra Dios».

34 Sinabi pa ni Elihu,
2 “Kayong mga nagsasabing marurunong at maraming nalalaman, pakinggan ninyo akong mabuti. 3 Sapagkat kung papaanong alam ng dila ang masarap at hindi masarap na pagkain, alam din ng tainga kung ano ang tama at hindi tamang mga salita. 4 Kaya alamin natin kung ano ang tama, pag-aralan natin kung ano ang mabuti. 5 Sapagkat sinabi ni Job, ‘Wala akong kasalanan pero hindi ako binigyan ng Dios ng katarungan. 6 Kahit na matuwid ako, itinuring akong sinungaling. Kahit na wala akong nagawang kasalanan, binigyan niya ako ng karamdamang walang kagalingan.’
7 “Walang taong katulad ni Job na uhaw sa pangungutya. 8 Ang gusto niyang makasama ay masasama at makasalanang tao, 9 dahil sinabi niya, ‘Walang pakinabang ang tao kung magsisikap siyang bigyan kasiyahan ang Dios!’
10 “Kaya makinig kayo sa akin, kayong mga nagsasabing kayo ay nakakaunawa. Ang Makapangyarihang Dios ay hindi gumagawa ng masama. 11 Ginagantimpalaan niya ang tao ayon sa kanyang mga ginawa; pinakikitunguhan niya ito ayon sa nararapat sa kanyang ugali. 12 Nakatitiyak akong hindi maaaring gumawa ang Makapangyarihang Dios ng masama. Hindi niya maaaring baluktutin ang hustisya. 13 May nagtalaga ba sa kanya para pamunuan ang mundo? May nagbilin ba sa kanya ng mundo? Wala! 14 Kung loloobin ng Dios na kunin ang buhay na ibinigay niya sa tao, 15 lahat ng taoʼy mamamatay at babalik sa lupa.
16 “Job, kung may pang-unawa ka, pakinggan mo ang sasabihin ko: 17 Makakapamuno kaya ang Dios kung ayaw niya ng katarungan? Bakit mo hinahatulan ang matuwid at makapangyarihang Dios? 18 Hindi baʼt siya ang sumasaway sa mga hari at pinunong masama at walang kwenta? 19 Wala siyang itinatangi sa mga pinuno at wala rin siyang pinapanigan, mayaman man o mahirap, dahil silang lahat ay pare-pareho niyang nilikha. 20 Kahit ang taong makapangyarihan ay biglang mamamatay sa gabi nang hindi ginagalaw ng tao.
21 “Binabantayan ng Dios ang lahat ng ginagawa ng tao. 22 Walang madilim na lugar na maaaring pagtaguan ng masama. 23 Hindi na kailangang tawagin pa ng Dios ang tao upang humarap sa kanya para tanungin at hatulan. 24 Hindi na niya kailangang imbestigahan pa ang taong namumuno para alisin ito sa katungkulan at palitan ng iba. 25 Sapagkat alam niya ang kanilang ginagawa, inaalis niya sila sa kapangyarihan at nililipol kahit gabi. 26 Hayagan niya silang pinaparusahan dahil sa kanilang kasamaan. 27 Ginawa niya ito dahil tumigil sila ng pagsunod sa kanya, at binalewala ang kanyang pamamaraan. 28 Inaapi nila ang mga dukha, at narinig ng Dios ang paghingi ng mga ito ng tulong. 29 Pero kahit na tumahimik ang Dios at magtago, walang sinuman ang makapagsasabing mali siya. Ang totoo, binabantayan ng Dios ang tao at mga bansa, 30 para patigilin ang pamumuno ng mga hindi makadios, na siyang bitag na pipinsala sa mga tao.
31 “Job, bakit ayaw mong lumapit sa Dios at sabihin sa kanya, ‘Nagkasala po ako, pero hindi na ako magkakasala pa!’ 32 o, ‘Sabihin nʼyo sa akin ang kasalanan ko. Kung nagkasala ako, hindi ko na ito muling gagawin.’ 33 Papaano sasagutin ng Dios ang kahilingan mo kung hindi ka magsisisi? Ikaw ang magpapasya nito at hindi ako. Kaya sabihin mo sa akin kung ano ang pasya mo.
34 “Ang mga taong marunong at may pang-unawa, na nakikinig sa akin, 35 ay makapagsasabing ang mga sinasabi mo Job ay kamangmangan at walang kabuluhan. 36 Dapat ka ngang lubusang subukin dahil nagsasalita kang gaya ng masamang tao. 37 Dinadagdagan mo pa ang kasalanan mo dahil sa paghihimagsik mo sa Dios. Minamasama moʼt kinukutya ang Dios sa harap namin.”

34 Then Elihu said:
2 “Hear my words, you wise men;
listen to me,(A) you men of learning.
3 For the ear tests words
as the tongue tastes food.(B)
4 Let us discern for ourselves what is right;(C)
let us learn together what is good.(D)
5 “Job says, ‘I am innocent,(E)
but God denies me justice.(F)
6 Although I am right,
I am considered a liar;(G)
although I am guiltless,(H)
his arrow inflicts an incurable wound.’(I)
7 Is there anyone like Job,
who drinks scorn like water?(J)
8 He keeps company with evildoers;
he associates with the wicked.(K)
9 For he says, ‘There is no profit
in trying to please God.’(L)
10 “So listen to me,(M) you men of understanding.(N)
Far be it from God to do evil,(O)
from the Almighty to do wrong.(P)
11 He repays everyone for what they have done;(Q)
he brings on them what their conduct deserves.(R)
12 It is unthinkable that God would do wrong,(S)
that the Almighty would pervert justice.(T)
13 Who appointed(U) him over the earth?
Who put him in charge of the whole world?(V)
14 If it were his intention
and he withdrew his spirit[a](W) and breath,(X)
15 all humanity would perish(Y) together
and mankind would return to the dust.(Z)
16 “If you have understanding,(AA) hear this;
listen to what I say.(AB)
17 Can someone who hates justice govern?(AC)
Will you condemn the just and mighty One?(AD)
18 Is he not the One who says to kings, ‘You are worthless,’
and to nobles,(AE) ‘You are wicked,’(AF)
19 who shows no partiality(AG) to princes
and does not favor the rich over the poor,(AH)
for they are all the work of his hands?(AI)
20 They die in an instant, in the middle of the night;(AJ)
the people are shaken and they pass away;
the mighty are removed without human hand.(AK)
21 “His eyes are on the ways of mortals;(AL)
he sees their every step.(AM)
22 There is no deep shadow,(AN) no utter darkness,(AO)
where evildoers can hide.(AP)
23 God has no need to examine people further,(AQ)
that they should come before him for judgment.(AR)
24 Without inquiry he shatters(AS) the mighty(AT)
and sets up others in their place.(AU)
25 Because he takes note of their deeds,(AV)
he overthrows them in the night(AW) and they are crushed.(AX)
26 He punishes them for their wickedness(AY)
where everyone can see them,
27 because they turned from following him(AZ)
and had no regard for any of his ways.(BA)
28 They caused the cry of the poor to come before him,
so that he heard the cry of the needy.(BB)
29 But if he remains silent,(BC) who can condemn him?(BD)
If he hides his face,(BE) who can see him?
Yet he is over individual and nation alike,(BF)
30 to keep the godless(BG) from ruling,(BH)
from laying snares for the people.(BI)
31 “Suppose someone says to God,
‘I am guilty(BJ) but will offend no more.
32 Teach me what I cannot see;(BK)
if I have done wrong, I will not do so again.’(BL)
33 Should God then reward you on your terms,
when you refuse to repent?(BM)
You must decide, not I;
so tell me what you know.
34 “Men of understanding declare,
wise men who hear me say to me,
35 ‘Job speaks without knowledge;(BN)
his words lack insight.’(BO)
36 Oh, that Job might be tested to the utmost
for answering like a wicked man!(BP)
37 To his sin he adds rebellion;
scornfully he claps his hands(BQ) among us
and multiplies his words(BR) against God.”(BS)

3 For the ear trieth words, as the mouth tasteth meat.
4 Let us choose to us judgment: let us know among ourselves what is good.
5 For Job hath said, I am righteous: and God hath taken away my judgment.
6 Should I lie against my right? my wound is incurable without transgression.
7 What man is like Job, who drinketh up scorning like water?
8 Which goeth in company with the workers of iniquity, and walketh with wicked men.
9 For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.
10 Therefore hearken unto me ye men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.
11 For the work of a man shall he render unto him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.
12 Yea, surely God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.
13 Who hath given him a charge over the earth? or who hath disposed the whole world?
14 If he set his heart upon man, if he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath;
15 All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust.
16 If now thou hast understanding, hear this: hearken to the voice of my words.
17 Shall even he that hateth right govern? and wilt thou condemn him that is most just?
18 Is it fit to say to a king, Thou art wicked? and to princes, Ye are ungodly?
19 How much less to him that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor? for they all are the work of his hands.
20 In a moment shall they die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and pass away: and the mighty shall be taken away without hand.
21 For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his goings.
22 There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.
23 For he will not lay upon man more than right; that he should enter into judgment with God.
24 He shall break in pieces mighty men without number, and set others in their stead.
25 Therefore he knoweth their works, and he overturneth them in the night, so that they are destroyed.
26 He striketh them as wicked men in the open sight of others;
27 Because they turned back from him, and would not consider any of his ways:
28 So that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he heareth the cry of the afflicted.
29 When he giveth quietness, who then can make trouble? and when he hideth his face, who then can behold him? whether it be done against a nation, or against a man only:
30 That the hypocrite reign not, lest the people be ensnared.
31 Surely it is meet to be said unto God, I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more:
32 That which I see not teach thou me: if I have done iniquity, I will do no more.
33 Should it be according to thy mind? he will recompense it, whether thou refuse, or whether thou choose; and not I: therefore speak what thou knowest.
34 Let men of understanding tell me, and let a wise man hearken unto me.
35 Job hath spoken without knowledge, and his words were without wisdom.
36 My desire is that Job may be tried unto the end because of his answers for wicked men.
37 For he addeth rebellion unto his sin, he clappeth his hands among us, and multiplieth his words against God.
