The World Mourns Babylon’s Fall

^9 (A)“The kings of the earth who committed fornication and lived luxuriously with her ^(B)will weep and lament for her, ^(C)when they see the smoke of her burning, ¹⁰ standing at a distance for fear of her torment, saying, ^(D)‘Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! ^(E)For in one hour your judgment has come.’

²⁴ Some men’s sins are ^(A)clearly evident, preceding them to judgment, but those of some men follow later.

²⁰ Those who are sinning rebuke in the presence of all, that the rest also may fear.

¹¹ Thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, I will raise up adversity against you from your own house; and I will ^(A)take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor, and he shall lie with your wives in the sight of this sun. ¹² For you did it secretly, ^(B)but I will do this thing before all Israel, before the sun.’ ”

²¹ Then all the men of his city shall stone him to death with stones; ^(A)so you shall put away the evil from among you, ^(B)and all Israel shall hear and fear.

⁹ but you shall surely kill him; your hand shall be first against him to put him to ^(A)death, and afterward the hand of all the people. ¹⁰ And you shall stone him with stones until he dies, because he sought to entice you away from the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. ¹¹ So all Israel shall hear and ^(B)fear, and not again do such wickedness as this among you.
