¹⁴ What then shall we say?^(A) Is God unjust? Not at all!^(B)

²⁵ Far be it from you to do such a thing^(A)—to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous^(B) and the wicked alike.^(C) Far be it from you! Will not the Judge^(D) of all the earth do right?”^(E)

⁵ But if our unrighteousness brings out God’s righteousness more clearly,^(A) what shall we say? That God is unjust in bringing his wrath on us? (I am using a human argument.)^{(B) 6} Certainly not! If that were so, how could God judge the world?^{(C) 7} Someone might argue, “If my falsehood enhances God’s truthfulness and so increases his glory,^(D) why am I still condemned as a sinner?”^(E)

²² In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing.^(A)

²¹ Then Abishai^(A) son of Zeruiah said, “Shouldn’t Shimei be put to death for this? He cursed^(B) the Lord’s anointed.”^(C)
