Job 33:14-22
New King James Version
14 (A)For God may speak in one way, or in another,
Yet man does not perceive it.
15 (B)In a dream, in a vision of the night,
When deep sleep falls upon men,
While slumbering on their beds,
16 (C)Then He opens the ears of men,
And seals their instruction.
17 In order to turn man from his deed,
And conceal pride from man,
18 He keeps back his soul from the Pit,
And his life from [a]perishing by the sword.
19 “Man is also chastened with pain on his (D)bed,
And with strong pain in many of his bones,
20 (E)So that his life abhors (F)bread,
And his soul [b]succulent food.
21 His flesh wastes away from sight,
And his bones stick out which once were not seen.
22 Yes, his soul draws near the Pit,
And his life to the executioners.
Job 33:14-22
American Standard Version
14 For God speaketh [a]once,
Yea twice, though man regardeth it not.
15 In a dream, in a vision of the night,
When deep sleep falleth upon men,
In slumberings upon the bed;
16 Then he [b]openeth the ears of men,
And sealeth their instruction,
17 [c]That he may withdraw man from his purpose,
And hide pride from man;
18 [d]He keepeth back his soul from the pit,
And his life from perishing by the [e]sword.
19 He is chastened also with pain upon his bed,
[f]And with continual strife in his bones;
20 So that his life abhorreth bread,
And his soul dainty food.
21 His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen;
And his bones that were not seen stick out.
22 Yea, his soul draweth near unto the pit,
And his life to the destroyers.
