Elihu tillrättavisar Job
33 Job, var snäll och lyssna till vad jag har att säga.
2 Låt mig få fortsätta nu när jag har gjort mina avsikter klara.
3 Jag ska säga sanningen med allvar och i uppriktighet.
4 Guds Ande har skapat mig och den Allsmäktiges Ande har gett mig liv.
5 Tveka inte att ge mig svar på tal, om du kan.
6-7 Du behöver inte vara rädd för mig. Jag är också formad av lera i Guds hand, precis som du.
8 Du har sagt så att jag har hört det, ja, du har faktiskt sagt det gång på gång:
9 'Jag är ren, jag är oskyldig, jag har inte syndat.'
10 Du säger att Gud granskar dig för att hitta fel hos dig, så att han kan räkna dig som sin fiende,
11 och att han sätter dina fötter i stocken och bevakar din minsta rörelse.
12 Här är mitt svar: Just på denna punkt har du syndat! Gud är nämligen större än människor.
13 Varför ska du strida mot honom, därför att han inte avlägger räkenskap inför dig om vad han gör?
14 För Gud talar gång på gång,
15 i drömmar och i syner om natten när vi är i djup sömn.
16 Han öppnar våra öron vid sådana tillfällen och ger oss vishet och kunskap,
17-18 för att få oss att tänka om och hindra att vi blir högmodiga. Han varnar oss för syndens ondska för att vi inte ska gå i fällan.
19 Vi drabbas också av sjukdom och plåga,
20 och vi tappar matlusten så att vi inte ens vill ha den läckraste mat.
21 Vi magrar så att alla ben i kroppen syns
22 och dras allt närmare graven.
23-24 Men om en budbärare från himlen, en medlare, kommer och ber om nåd för en människa som för en vän, och får henne att inse vad som är rätt, då förbarmar sig Gud över henne och säger: 'Låt henne bli fri. Låt henne inte dö, för jag har fått lösen för henne!'
25 Då kommer hennes kropp att bli frisk som ett barns, fast i hullet och ungdomlig.
26 Och när hon ber till Gud kommer han att höra och svara och ta emot henne med glädje och låta henne vända tillbaka till sina uppgifter.
27 Och hon kommer att förklara för sina vänner: 'Jag syndade, men Gud var barmhärtig mot mig och lät mig gå.
28 Jag behövde inte dö. Nu vill jag fortsätta att leva i ljuset.
29 Ja, så gör Gud ofta med människan.
30 Han räddar hennes själ från undergång, så att hon får vara i ljuset bland de levande.
31 Lägg märke till detta, Job! Hör på mig och låt mig få fortsätta!
32 Men om du har något att säga på den här punkten, så gör det nu. Jag ska lyssna till dig, för jag är angelägen om att få ge dig rätt.
33 Men om du inte har något att säga, så fortsätt att lyssna. Jag ska lära dig hur man blir vis.

33 Men Job, hör nu mina ord,
lyssna till allt jag har att säga!
2 Se, jag öppnar nu mina läppar,
min tunga talar i min mun.
3 Mina ord kommer
från ett uppriktigt hjärta,
det jag förstår ska jag ärligt säga.
4 Guds Ande har gjort mig,
den Allsmäktiges livsande
ger mig liv.
5 Svara mig om du kan,
träd fram inför mig,
gör dig redo.
6 (A) Se, inför Gud är vi båda lika,
också jag är formad av lera.
7 Se, rädsla för mig
behöver inte skrämma dig,
och min myndighet
ska inte trycka ner dig.
8 Men du sade inför mina öron,
så lydde orden jag hörde:
9 (B) ”Jag är ren och utan synd,
jag är fläckfri och utan skuld.
10 (C) Men se, han vill ansätta mig,
han räknar mig som sin fiende.
11 (D) Han sätter mina fötter i stocken,
han vaktar på alla mina vägar.”
12 Där har du inte rätt, svarar jag dig,
för Gud är större än en människa.
13 (E) Hur kan du förebrå honom
att han inte ger ett enda ord till svar[a]?
14 Gud talar både en och två gånger,
utan att man bryr sig om det.
15 I drömmen, i en syn om natten,
när sömnen fallit tung
över människorna
och de slumrar i sin bädd,
16 (F) då öppnar han människornas öron
och bekräftar[b] deras tuktan
17 för att hindra människan
från en ogärning
och hålla henne borta från högmod.
18 Han bevarar hennes själ från graven
och hennes liv
från att falla för svärd.
19 (G) Hon tuktas med plågor
på sin sjukbädd
och med ständiga smärtor i benen.
20 Hennes sinne äcklas av mat,
hennes själ vid den föda
hon älskade.
21 Hennes kött tärs bort
tills inget finns kvar,
hennes ben blottas
som förr inte syntes.
22 Hennes själ närmar sig graven,
hennes liv dödens makter.
23 (H) Om det finns en ängel hos henne,
en medlare, en av tusen,
som förkunnar för människan
vad som är rätt,
24 då förbarmar sig Gud över henne
och säger:
”Rädda henne
från att fara ner i graven,
jag har funnit lösen för henne.”
25 (I) Då får hennes kropp
ny ungdomskraft,
hon blir på nytt
som i sin ungdoms dagar.
26 (J) Hon ber till Gud
och han har behag till henne,
hon får se hans ansikte med jubel.
Och Gud återger människan
hennes rättfärdighet.
27 Hon ska sjunga inför människorna:
”Jag syndade
och förvrängde det rätta,
men jag fick inte vad jag förtjänade.
28 Han friköpte min själ
från att hamna i fördärvet,
och mitt liv ska se ljuset.”
29 Se, allt detta gör Gud
med en människa,
både två och tre gånger,
30 (K) för att återföra hennes själ
från graven
och låta livets ljus stråla över henne.
31 Ge akt, Job, och lyssna på mig!
Var stilla, så att jag får tala.
32 Men har du något att säga,
så svara mig, tala,
för jag vill gärna ge dig rätt.
33 Om inte, lyssna då till mig.
Var stilla, jag ska lära dig vishet.

pay attention to everything I say.(B)
2 I am about to open my mouth;
my words are on the tip of my tongue.
3 My words come from an upright heart;(C)
my lips sincerely speak what I know.(D)
4 The Spirit(E) of God has made me;(F)
the breath of the Almighty(G) gives me life.(H)
5 Answer me(I) then, if you can;
stand up(J) and argue your case before me.(K)
6 I am the same as you in God’s sight;(L)
I too am a piece of clay.(M)
7 No fear of me should alarm you,
nor should my hand be heavy on you.(N)
8 “But you have said in my hearing—
I heard the very words—
9 ‘I am pure,(O) I have done no wrong;(P)
I am clean and free from sin.(Q)
10 Yet God has found fault with me;
he considers me his enemy.(R)
11 He fastens my feet in shackles;(S)
he keeps close watch on all my paths.’(T)
12 “But I tell you, in this you are not right,
for God is greater than any mortal.(U)
13 Why do you complain to him(V)
that he responds to no one’s words[a]?(W)
14 For God does speak(X)—now one way, now another(Y)—
though no one perceives it.(Z)
15 In a dream,(AA) in a vision(AB) of the night,(AC)
when deep sleep(AD) falls on people
as they slumber in their beds,
16 he may speak(AE) in their ears
and terrify them(AF) with warnings,(AG)
17 to turn them from wrongdoing
and keep them from pride,(AH)
18 to preserve them from the pit,(AI)
their lives from perishing by the sword.[b](AJ)
19 “Or someone may be chastened(AK) on a bed of pain(AL)
with constant distress in their bones,(AM)
20 so that their body finds food(AN) repulsive
and their soul loathes the choicest meal.(AO)
21 Their flesh wastes away to nothing,
and their bones,(AP) once hidden, now stick out.(AQ)
22 They draw near to the pit,(AR)
and their life to the messengers of death.[c](AS)
23 Yet if there is an angel at their side,
a messenger,(AT) one out of a thousand,
sent to tell them how to be upright,(AU)
24 and he is gracious to that person and says to God,
‘Spare them from going down to the pit;(AV)
I have found a ransom for them(AW)—
25 let their flesh be renewed(AX) like a child’s;
let them be restored as in the days of their youth’(AY)—
26 then that person can pray to God and find favor with him,(AZ)
they will see God’s face and shout for joy;(BA)
he will restore them to full well-being.(BB)
27 And they will go to others and say,
‘I have sinned,(BC) I have perverted what is right,(BD)
but I did not get what I deserved.(BE)
28 God has delivered(BF) me from going down to the pit,(BG)
and I shall live to enjoy the light of life.’(BH)

33 Wherefore, Job, I pray thee, hear my speeches, and hearken to all my words.
2 Behold, now I have opened my mouth, my tongue hath spoken in my mouth.
3 My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart: and my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.
4 The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.
5 If thou canst answer me, set thy words in order before me, stand up.
6 Behold, I am according to thy wish in God's stead: I also am formed out of the clay.
7 Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, neither shall my hand be heavy upon thee.
8 Surely thou hast spoken in mine hearing, and I have heard the voice of thy words, saying,
9 I am clean without transgression, I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me.
10 Behold, he findeth occasions against me, he counteth me for his enemy,
11 He putteth my feet in the stocks, he marketh all my paths.
12 Behold, in this thou art not just: I will answer thee, that God is greater than man.
13 Why dost thou strive against him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters.
14 For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not.
15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;
16 Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,
17 That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.
18 He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.
19 He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain:
20 So that his life abhorreth bread, and his soul dainty meat.
21 His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones that were not seen stick out.
22 Yea, his soul draweth near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers.
23 If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew unto man his uprightness:
24 Then he is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.
25 His flesh shall be fresher than a child's: he shall return to the days of his youth:
26 He shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness.
27 He looketh upon men, and if any say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not;
28 He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.
29 Lo, all these things worketh God oftentimes with man,
30 To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.
31 Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I will speak.
32 If thou hast anything to say, answer me: speak, for I desire to justify thee.
33 If not, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I shall teach thee wisdom.

Elihu Contradicts Job
33 “But please, Job, hear my speech,
And listen to all my words.
2 Now, I open my mouth;
My tongue speaks in my mouth.
3 My words come from my upright heart;
My lips utter pure knowledge.
4 (A)The Spirit of God has made me,
And the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
5 If you can answer me,
Set your words in order before me;
Take your stand.
6 (B)Truly I am [a]as your spokesman before God;
I also have been formed out of clay.
7 (C)Surely no fear of me will terrify you,
Nor will my hand be heavy on you.
8 “Surely you have spoken [b]in my hearing,
And I have heard the sound of your words, saying,
9 ‘I(D) am pure, without transgression;
I am innocent, and there is no iniquity in me.
10 Yet He finds occasions against me,
(E)He counts me as His enemy;

I will answer you,
