²⁸ He has redeemed my soul from going down to the Pit,
    and my life shall see the light.’^(A)

²⁴ and he is gracious to that person and says,
    ‘Deliver him from going down into the Pit;
    I have found a ransom;^(A)

²² Their souls draw near the Pit
    and their lives to those who bring death.^(A)

¹⁶ Or why was I not buried like a stillborn child,
    like an infant that never sees the light?^(A)

⁹ Let the stars of its dawn be dark;
    let it hope for light but have none;
    may it not see the eyelids of the morning—^(A)

¹⁷ Surely it was for my welfare
    that I had great bitterness,
but you have held back^[a] my life
    from the pit of destruction,
for you have cast all my sins
    behind your back.^(A)
18 For Sheol cannot thank you;
    death cannot praise you;
those who go down to the Pit cannot hope
    for your faithfulness.^(B)
