Elihus tal (Kap 32-37)
32 De tre männen upphörde nu att svara Job, eftersom han i sina egna ögon var rättfärdig.
2 Men Elihu, Barakels son, från Bus, av Rams släkt, blev upprörd. Mot Job blev han upprörd, därför att denne menade sig ha rätt mot Gud. 3 Och mot Jobs tre vänner blev han upprörd, därför att de inte fann något svar och ändå dömde Job skyldig.
4 Elihu hade dröjt att tala till Job eftersom de andra var äldre än han. 5 Men då Elihu insåg att de tre männen inte hade något mer att säga blev han upprörd.
6 Så Elihu, Barakels son, från Bus tog till orda. Han sade:
Jag är ung, och ni är gamla.
Därför var jag rädd och vågade inte
lägga fram min mening för er.
7 Jag tänkte: "Må åldern tala
och de många åren förkunna visdom."
8 Men det beror på anden i människan,
den Allsmäktiges livsfläkt ger henne förstånd.
9 Det är inte åldern som ger vishet,
inte bara gamla förstår vad som är rätt.
10 Därför säger jag: Lyssna på mig!
Också jag vill lägga fram min mening.
11 Se, jag väntade på era ord,
jag lyssnade efter förståndigt tal från er,
när ni sökte finna de rätta orden.
12 Jag lyssnade uppmärksamt på er,
men se, ingen kunde motbevisa Job,
ingen kunde ge honom svar på tal.
13 Svara nu inte: "Vi möttes av vishet.
Gud, inte en människa, skall slå ner honom."
14 Hans ord var inte riktade mot mig,
och jag skall inte bemöta honom med era argument.
15 De är bestörta och svarar ej mer,
de har förlorat talförmågan.
16 Skulle jag vänta då de ingenting kan säga,
då de står där utan något svar?
17 Också jag vill ta till orda,
också jag vill säga min mening.
18 Ty jag är uppfylld av ord,
anden inom mig tvingar mig.
19 Se, mitt inre är som instängt vin,
likt en ny vinlägel är det nära att brista.
20 Därför måste jag tala och få lättnad,
jag måste öppna mina läppar och svara.
21 Jag skall inte vara partisk mot någon
och jag vill inte smickra någon människa.
22 Smicker vill jag ej veta av,
annars kunde min skapare strax rycka bort mig.

Den unge Elihu tillrättavisar de äldre vännerna
32 De tre männen vägrade att vidare svara Job, därför att han fortsatte att hävda att han var oskyldig.
2 Elihu, Barakels son från Bus, av Rams släkt, blev också arg på Job därför att han menade sig ha rätt mot Gud.
3 Men han blev också arg på Jobs tre vänner, som han ansåg hade dömt Job utan vettiga skäl.
4 Elihu hade väntat på sin tur att tala, eftersom han var yngre än de andra.
5 Men när han såg att de inte hade något mer att komma med, reagerade han
6 och började tala:Jag är ung och ni är äldre än jag. Därför tvekade jag och vågade inte säga er vad jag tänkte,
7 för man säger ju att visheten kommer med åren.
8-9 Men det är inte bara ålder och erfarenhet som gör människor visa. Även anden i människan, den Allsmäktiges Ande, gör henne förståndig.
10 Lyssna därför till mig en stund och låt mig få framföra min åsikt.
11-12 Jag har väntat ända till nu och lyssnat mycket noga, men ni har inte på någon enda punkt lyckats övertyga Job om att han är en syndare eller kunnat bevisa att han är det.
13 Det räcker inte att påstå att 'endast Gud kan överbevisa syndaren om hans synd'.
14 Om det hade varit med mig Job diskuterat, hade jag inte svarat som ni!
15 Nu sitter ni där och har inget mer att komma med.
16 Ska då jag behöva fortsätta att vara tyst?
17 Nej, jag ska ge mitt svar jag också.
18 Jag har mycket att säga, och anden inom mig driver mig.
19 Jag är som en vinsäck på bristningsgränsen. Mina ord får mig nästan att sprängas.
20 Jag måste få tala, så låt mig därför ge mina svar.
21-22 Tro inte att jag kommer att vara rädd att såra någon! Inte heller kommer jag att försöka smickra någon. Jag ska vara uppriktig, för i annat fall kan Gud döda mig.

Elihu’s Angry Response
32 So these three men quit answering Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.(A) 2 Then Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite(B) from the family of Ram became angry. He was angry at Job because he had justified(C) himself rather than God. 3 He was also angry at Job’s three friends because they had failed to refute him and yet had condemned him.[a]
4 Now Elihu had waited to speak to Job because they were all older than he. 5 But when he saw that the three men could not answer Job, he became angry.
6 So Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite replied:
I am young in years,
while you are old;
therefore I was timid and afraid
to tell(D) you what I know.
7 I thought that age should speak
and maturity should teach wisdom.
8 But it is a spirit in man[b]
and the breath(E) of the Almighty
that give him understanding.
9 It is not only the old who are wise
or the elderly who understand how to judge.
10 Therefore I say, “Listen to me.
I too will declare what I know.”
11 Look, I waited for your conclusions;
I listened to your insights
as you sought for words.
12 I paid close attention to you.
Yet no one proved Job wrong;
not one of you refuted his arguments.
13 So do not claim, “We have found wisdom;
let God deal with him, not man.”
14 But Job has not directed his argument to me,
and I will not respond to him with your arguments.
15 Job’s friends are dismayed and can no longer answer;
words have left them.
16 Should I continue to wait now that they are silent,
now that they stand there and no longer answer?
17 I too will answer;[c]
yes, I will tell what I know.
18 For I am full of words,
and my spirit[d] compels me to speak.(F)
19 My heart[e] is like unvented wine;
it is about to burst like new wineskins.(G)
20 I must speak so that I can find relief;
I must open my lips and respond.
21 I will be partial to no one,(H)
and I will not give anyone an undeserved title.
22 For I do not know how to give such titles;
otherwise, my Maker would remove me in an instant.

Elihu Speaks: Job’s Three Friends Rebuked
32 So these three men ceased answering Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes. 2 Then the wrath of Elihu the son of Barakel the Buzite, of the family of Ram, was aroused; his wrath was aroused against Job because he justified himself rather than God. 3 His wrath was aroused also against his three friends because they had found no answer and yet had condemned Job. 4 Now Elihu had waited until Job had spoken because they were older than he. 5 When Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, then his wrath was aroused.
6 Elihu the son of Barakel the Buzite answered:
“I am young,
and you are very old;
therefore I was afraid
and dared not show you my opinion.
7 I said, ‘Age should speak,
and multitude of years should teach wisdom.’
8 But there is a spirit in man,
and the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding.
9 Great men are not always wise,
nor do the aged always understand judgment.
10 “Therefore I say,
‘Listen to me; I will also declare my opinion.’
11 Indeed, I waited for your words;
I listened to your reasons,
while you searched out what to say.
12 Yes, I paid attention to you;
and surely none of you convinced Job
or answered his words.
13 Lest you say, ‘We have found wisdom’;
God will subdue him, not man.
14 Now he has not directed his words against me,
so I will not answer him with your speeches.
15 “They are amazed; they answer no more;
they cease speaking.
16 And I have waited,
(for they did not speak, but stood still and answered no more).
17 I said, ‘I also will answer my part;
I too will show my opinion.’
18 For I am full of words;
the spirit within me compels me.
19 See, my belly is like wine that has no vent;
it is ready to burst like new wineskins.
20 I will speak, that I may be refreshed;
I will open my lips and answer.
21 Let me not, I pray, show partiality to anyone,
nor let me give flattering titles to man.
22 For I do not know how to give flattering titles;
in so doing my Maker would soon take me away.

7 I thought, ‘Age should speak;
advanced years should teach wisdom.’(K)
8 But it is the spirit[b](L) in a person,
the breath of the Almighty,(M) that gives them understanding.(N)
9 It is not only the old[c] who are wise,(O)
not only the aged(P) who understand what is right.(Q)
10 “Therefore I say: Listen to me;(R)
I too will tell you what I know.(S)
11 I waited while you spoke,
I listened to your reasoning;
while you were searching for words,
12 I gave you my full attention.
But not one of you has proved Job wrong;
none of you has answered his arguments.(T)
13 Do not say, ‘We have found wisdom;(U)
let God, not a man, refute(V) him.’
14 But Job has not marshaled his words against me,(W)
and I will not answer him with your arguments.
15 “They are dismayed and have no more to say;
words have failed them.(X)
16 Must I wait, now that they are silent,
now that they stand there with no reply?
17 I too will have my say;
I too will tell what I know.(Y)
18 For I am full of words,
and the spirit(Z) within me compels me;(AA)
19 inside I am like bottled-up wine,
like new wineskins ready to burst.(AB)
20 I must speak and find relief;
I must open my lips and reply.(AC)
21 I will show no partiality,(AD)

22 for if I were skilled in flattery,
