Elihu’s Angry Response
32 So these three men quit answering Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.(A) 2 Then Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite(B) from the family of Ram became angry. He was angry at Job because he had justified(C) himself rather than God. 3 He was also angry at Job’s three friends because they had failed to refute him and yet had condemned him.[a]
4 Now Elihu had waited to speak to Job because they were all older than he. 5 But when he saw that the three men could not answer Job, he became angry.
6 So Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite replied:
I am young in years,
while you are old;
therefore I was timid and afraid
to tell(D) you what I know.
7 I thought that age should speak
and maturity should teach wisdom.
8 But it is a spirit in man[b]
and the breath(E) of the Almighty
that give him understanding.
9 It is not only the old who are wise
or the elderly who understand how to judge.
10 Therefore I say, “Listen to me.
I too will declare what I know.”
11 Look, I waited for your conclusions;
I listened to your insights
as you sought for words.
12 I paid close attention to you.
Yet no one proved Job wrong;
not one of you refuted his arguments.
13 So do not claim, “We have found wisdom;
let God deal with him, not man.”
14 But Job has not directed his argument to me,
and I will not respond to him with your arguments.
15 Job’s friends are dismayed and can no longer answer;
words have left them.
16 Should I continue to wait now that they are silent,
now that they stand there and no longer answer?
17 I too will answer;[c]
yes, I will tell what I know.
18 For I am full of words,
and my spirit[d] compels me to speak.(F)
19 My heart[e] is like unvented wine;
it is about to burst like new wineskins.(G)
20 I must speak so that I can find relief;
I must open my lips and respond.
21 I will be partial to no one,(H)
and I will not give anyone an undeserved title.
22 For I do not know how to give such titles;
otherwise, my Maker would remove me in an instant.

32 Bấy giờ ba người bạn của Gióp không đáp lời ông nữa, vì ông cứ cho rằng ông là người ngay lành. 2 Nhưng Ê-li-hu con của Ba-ra-kên người Bu-xi thuộc gia tộc Ram nổi giận với Gióp, vì Gióp cứ cho rằng ông công chính chứ không phải Ðức Chúa Trời. 3 Ê-li-hu cũng nổi giận với ba người bạn của Gióp, vì họ không tìm được lời lẽ nào để đáp lại Gióp, mặc dù họ vẫn giữ lập trường rằng Gióp có tội nên mới bị như vậy. 4 Lúc ấy Ê-li-hu đợi cho ba người kia tranh luận với Gióp xong, bởi vì họ lớn tuổi hơn ông. 5 Khi Ê-li-hu thấy ba người ấy không còn lời lẽ nào để đáp lại Gióp nữa, ông nổi giận.
6 Ê-li-hu con của Ba-ra-kên người Bu-xi nói:
Tôi còn trẻ và quý vị là những bậc cao niên trưởng thượng,
Nên tôi ngại và sợ phát biểu ý kiến trước mặt quý vị.
7 Tôi thầm nghĩ, “Ai sống lâu sẽ ngỏ lời chỉ bảo;
Người cao niên trường thọ sẽ dạy dỗ lẽ khôn ngoan.”
8 Nhưng tôi thấy tâm linh trong con người,
Tức hơi thở của Ðấng Toàn Năng mới cho họ sự thông sáng.
9 Người có địa vị cao trọng không hẳn là người khôn ngoan;
Người cao tuổi chưa chắc đã quyết đoán mọi sự đều đúng.
10 Vì thế tôi nói, “Kính xin quý vị nghe tôi phát biểu;
Cho tôi được trình bày ý kiến của tôi.”
11 Tôi đứng đợi và nghe những lời quý vị nói;
Tôi lắng nghe những lý lẽ quý vị trao đổi với nhau;
Tôi suy nghĩ trong khi quý vị tìm lời lẽ để đối đáp với nhau.
12 Tôi chăm chú nghe khi quý vị trao đổi ý kiến với nhau;
Tôi thấy không lập luận nào của quý vị thắng hơn ông Gióp;
Không ai trong quý vị bác bỏ được điểm nào của ông ấy.
13 Hy vọng quý vị sẽ không nói, “Chúng tôi đã tìm ra lẽ khôn ngoan nầy:
Chỉ Ðức Chúa Trời mới bắt phục được ông ấy, chứ người ta có lẽ phải chịu thua.”
14 Nhưng nếu như ông ấy tranh luận với tôi,[a]
Tôi sẽ không dùng các luận cứ như quý vị đã dùng để đáp lại ông ấy.
15 Quý vị[b] đã sững sờ và không biết trả lời thế nào với ông ấy;
Ðúng là quý vị không còn lời lẽ nào để phát biểu nữa rồi.
16 Chẳng lẽ tôi cứ đứng đây đợi trong khi quý vị im hơi lặng tiếng;
Quý vị cứ đứng im đó và không thốt lên được một lời đáp nào chăng?
17 Giờ đây cho tôi xin được trả lời ông ấy,
Cho tôi được trình bày ý kiến của tôi,
18 Vì trong tôi đang đầy những lời muốn nói;
Tâm linh ở trong tôi đang kiềm chế miệng tôi.
19 Này, lòng tôi như chai rượu đầy hơi chờ khui nút,
Như rượu mới trong bầu da căng ra gần làm vỡ bầu ra.
20 Tôi phải nói ra để lòng tôi được thơi thả;
Tôi sẽ mở môi để cất tiếng trả lời.
21 Tôi sẽ không thiên vị một người nào cả;
Tôi sẽ không dùng lời nói mình để nịnh hót một ai.
22 Vì tôi không biết nịnh bợ;
Nếu tôi có ý nịnh nọt, nguyện Ðấng Tạo Hóa của tôi cất lấy mạng sống của tôi.

6 So Elihu son of Barakel the Buzite said:
“I am young in years,
and you are old;(J)
that is why I was fearful,
not daring to tell you what I know.
7 I thought, ‘Age should speak;
advanced years should teach wisdom.’(K)
8 But it is the spirit[b](L) in a person,
the breath of the Almighty,(M) that gives them understanding.(N)
9 It is not only the old[c] who are wise,(O)
not only the aged(P) who understand what is right.(Q)
10 “Therefore I say: Listen to me;(R)
I too will tell you what I know.(S)
11 I waited while you spoke,
I listened to your reasoning;
while you were searching for words,
12 I gave you my full attention.
But not one of you has proved Job wrong;
none of you has answered his arguments.(T)
13 Do not say, ‘We have found wisdom;(U)
let God, not a man, refute(V) him.’
14 But Job has not marshaled his words against me,(W)
and I will not answer him with your arguments.
15 “They are dismayed and have no more to say;
words have failed them.(X)
16 Must I wait, now that they are silent,
now that they stand there with no reply?
17 I too will have my say;
I too will tell what I know.(Y)
18 For I am full of words,
and the spirit(Z) within me compels me;(AA)
19 inside I am like bottled-up wine,
like new wineskins ready to burst.(AB)
20 I must speak and find relief;
I must open my lips and reply.(AC)
21 I will show no partiality,(AD)
nor will I flatter anyone;(AE)
22 for if I were skilled in flattery,
my Maker(AF) would soon take me away.(AG)

2 Then was kindled the wrath of Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram: against Job was his wrath kindled, because he justified himself rather than God.
3 Also against his three friends was his wrath kindled, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.
4 Now Elihu had waited till Job had spoken, because they were elder than he.
5 When Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, then his wrath was kindled.
6 And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I am young, and ye are very old; wherefore I was afraid, and durst not shew you mine opinion.
7 I said, Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.
8 But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.
9 Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment.
10 Therefore I said, Hearken to me; I also will shew mine opinion.
11 Behold, I waited for your words; I gave ear to your reasons, whilst ye searched out what to say.
12 Yea, I attended unto you, and, behold, there was none of you that convinced Job, or that answered his words:
13 Lest ye should say, We have found out wisdom: God thrusteth him down, not man.
14 Now he hath not directed his words against me: neither will I answer him with your speeches.
15 They were amazed, they answered no more: they left off speaking.
16 When I had waited, (for they spake not, but stood still, and answered no more;)
17 I said, I will answer also my part, I also will shew mine opinion.
18 For I am full of matter, the spirit within me constraineth me.
19 Behold, my belly is as wine which hath no vent; it is ready to burst like new bottles.
20 I will speak, that I may be refreshed: I will open my lips and answer.
21 Let me not, I pray you, accept any man's person, neither let me give flattering titles unto man.
22 For I know not to give flattering titles; in so doing my maker would soon take me away.
