31 我 与 眼 睛 立 约 ， 怎 能 恋 恋 瞻 望 处 女 呢 ？
2 从 至 上 的 神 所 得 之 分 ， 从 至 高 全 能 者 所 得 之 业 是 甚 麽 呢 ？
3 岂 不 是 祸 患 临 到 不 义 的 ， 灾 害 临 到 作 孽 的 呢 ？
4 神 岂 不 是 察 看 我 的 道 路 ， 数 点 我 的 脚 步 呢 ？
5 我 若 与 虚 谎 同 行 ， 脚 若 追 随 诡 诈 ；
6 （ 我 若 被 公 道 的 天 平 称 度 ， 使 神 可 以 知 道 我 的 纯 正 ； ）
7 我 的 脚 步 若 偏 离 正 路 ， 我 的 心 若 随 着 我 的 眼 目 ， 若 有 玷 污 粘 在 我 手 上 ；
8 就 愿 我 所 种 的 有 别 人 吃 ， 我 田 所 产 的 被 拔 出 来 。
9 我 若 受 迷 惑 ， 向 妇 人 起 淫 念 ， 在 邻 舍 的 门 外 蹲 伏 ，
10 就 愿 我 的 妻 子 给 别 人 推 磨 ， 别 人 也 与 他 同 室 。
11 因 为 这 是 大 罪 ， 是 审 判 官 当 罚 的 罪 孽 。
12 这 本 是 火 焚 烧 ， 直 到 毁 灭 ， 必 拔 除 我 所 有 的 家 产 。
13 我 的 仆 婢 与 我 争 辩 的 时 候 ， 我 若 藐 视 不 听 他 们 的 情 节 ；
14 神 兴 起 ， 我 怎 样 行 呢 ？ 他 察 问 ， 我 怎 样 回 答 呢 ？
15 造 我 在 腹 中 的 ， 不 也 是 造 他 麽 ？ 将 他 与 我 抟 在 腹 中 的 岂 不 是 一 位 麽 ？
16 我 若 不 容 贫 寒 人 得 其 所 愿 ， 或 叫 寡 妇 眼 中 失 望 ，
17 或 独 自 吃 我 一 点 食 物 ， 孤 儿 没 有 与 我 同 吃 ；
18 （ 从 幼 年 时 孤 儿 与 我 同 长 ， 好 像 父 子 一 样 ； 我 从 出 母 腹 就 扶 助 寡 妇 。 ）
19 我 若 见 人 因 无 衣 死 亡 ， 或 见 穷 乏 人 身 无 遮 盖 ；
20 我 若 不 使 他 因 我 羊 的 毛 得 暖 ， 为 我 祝 福 ；
21 我 若 在 城 门 口 见 有 帮 助 我 的 ， 举 手 攻 击 孤 儿 ；
22 情 愿 我 的 肩 头 从 缺 盆 骨 脱 落 ， 我 的 膀 臂 从 羊 矢 骨 折 断 。
23 因 神 降 的 灾 祸 使 我 恐 惧 ； 因 他 的 威 严 ， 我 不 能 妄 为 。
24 我 若 以 黄 金 为 指 望 ， 对 精 金 说 ： 你 是 我 的 倚 靠 ；
25 我 若 因 财 物 丰 裕 ， 因 我 手 多 得 资 财 而 欢 喜 ；
26 我 若 见 太 阳 发 光 ， 明 月 行 在 空 中 ，
27 心 就 暗 暗 被 引 诱 ， 口 便 亲 手 ；
28 这 也 是 审 判 官 当 罚 的 罪 孽 ， 又 是 我 背 弃 在 上 的 神 。
29 我 若 见 恨 我 的 遭 报 就 欢 喜 ， 见 他 遭 灾 便 高 兴 ；
30 （ 我 没 有 容 口 犯 罪 ， 咒 诅 他 的 生 命 ； ）
31 若 我 帐 棚 的 人 未 尝 说 ， 谁 不 以 主 人 的 食 物 吃 饱 呢 ？
32 （ 从 来 我 没 有 容 客 旅 在 街 上 住 宿 ， 却 开 门 迎 接 行 路 的 人 ； ）
33 我 若 像 亚 当 （ 或 译 ： 别 人 ） 遮 掩 我 的 过 犯 ， 将 罪 孽 藏 在 怀 中 ；
34 因 惧 怕 大 众 ， 又 因 宗 族 藐 视 我 使 我 惊 恐 ， 以 致 闭 口 无 言 ， 杜 门 不 出 ；
35 惟 愿 有 一 位 肯 听 我 ！ （ 看 哪 ， 在 这 里 有 我 所 划 的 押 ， 愿 全 能 者 回 答 我 ！ ）
36 愿 那 敌 我 者 所 写 的 状 词 在 我 这 里 ！ 我 必 带 在 肩 上 ， 又 绑 在 头 上 为 冠 冕 。
37 我 必 向 他 述 说 我 脚 步 的 数 目 ， 必 如 君 王 进 到 他 面 前 。
38 我 若 夺 取 田 地 ， 这 地 向 我 喊 冤 ， 犁 沟 一 同 哭 泣 ；
39 我 若 吃 地 的 出 产 不 给 价 值 ， 或 叫 原 主 丧 命 ；
40 愿 这 地 长 蒺 藜 代 替 麦 子 ， 长 恶 草 代 替 大 麦 。 约 伯 的 话 说 完 了 。

31 »Yo siempre me propuse
no mirar con deseos
a ninguna jovencita.
2 ¿Y qué recibí del Dios del cielo?
3 ¡Tan sólo la ruina y el desastre
que merecen los malhechores!
4 ¡Tal parece que Dios no me ve
ni se fija en lo que hago!
5 »Yo nunca he hecho nada malo.
Nunca a nadie le he mentido.
6 ¡Que Dios me ponga a prueba,
y verá que soy inocente!
7 Nunca me aparté del buen camino,
ni me dejé llevar por mis deseos.
Si se encuentra en mis manos
alguna cosa robada,
8 ¡que otros disfruten mis cosechas,
y se queden con mis campos!
9 »Si acaso he esperado
que se vaya mi vecino
para estar a solas con su esposa,
10 ¡que mi esposa se convierta
en esclava y amante de otros!
11-12 Eso sería una vergüenza.
Sería un terrible castigo,
¡peor que si un incendio destructor
acabara con mis cosechas!
13 »Cuando mis esclavos
me hacían algún reclamo
siempre fui justo con ellos.
14 De otra manera,
¿cómo podría responder a Dios
si él me llamara a cuentas?
15 ¡Tanto a ellos como a mí
Dios nos hizo iguales!
16 »Jamás he dejado de atender
los ruegos de los pobres;
jamás he dejado que las viudas
se desmayen de hambre;
17 jamás he probado un bocado
sin compartirlo con los huérfanos.
18 Desde mi más temprana edad,
siempre he sido el apoyo
de huérfanos y viudas;
19 jamás he dejado que los pobres
mueran por falta de ropa.
20 Muchos me agradecieron
el abrigarlos con ropa de lana.
21 Nunca abusé de mi autoridad
para amenazar a los huérfanos.
22-23 ¡No quiero que Dios me castigue!
¡No podría resistir su poder!
Pero si acaso he actuado así,
¡que me quede yo sin brazos!
24 »Jamás he puesto mi confianza
en el poder de las riquezas;

me fueron motivo de orgullo.
26-27 El sol y la luna
son dos astros maravillosos,
pero jamás les he rendido culto,
ni en público ni en secreto.
28 Si hubiera cometido tal pecado,
Dios tendría que juzgarme
por haberlo traicionado.
29 »Jamás me he alegrado
de ver la desgracia de mi enemigo;
30 jamás he cometido el pecado
de pedir que le vaya mal;
31 jamás nadie visitó mi casa
sin calmar su hambre en mi mesa;
32 jamás un extraño tocó a mi puerta
sin ser invitado a pasar la noche;
33-34 a diferencia de otros,
jamás he guardado en secreto
ninguno de mis pecados,
y no por miedo a mis parientes
o por temor al qué dirán.
35 »Juro que digo la verdad.
¡Espero que el Dios todopoderoso
me escuche y me responda!
Si de algo puede acusarme,
que lo ponga por escrito.
36 Llevaré su acusación
en los hombros y en la frente.
37 Me presentaré ante Dios
con la frente en alto,
y le daré cuenta de mis actos.
38-39 »Jamás he abusado de mis tierras,
pues las he dejado descansar.
Jamás he explotado a mis trabajadores
pues les he pagado su justo salario.
40 Si lo que digo no es cierto,
¡que en vez de trigo y cebada
produzca mi tierra espinas!»

31 “I made a covenant with my eyes(A)
not to look lustfully at a young woman.(B)
2 For what is our lot(C) from God above,
our heritage from the Almighty on high?(D)
3 Is it not ruin(E) for the wicked,
disaster(F) for those who do wrong?(G)
4 Does he not see my ways(H)
and count my every step?(I)
5 “If I have walked with falsehood
or my foot has hurried after deceit(J)—
6 let God weigh me(K) in honest scales(L)
and he will know that I am blameless(M)—
7 if my steps have turned from the path,(N)
if my heart has been led by my eyes,
or if my hands(O) have been defiled,(P)
8 then may others eat what I have sown,(Q)
and may my crops be uprooted.(R)
9 “If my heart has been enticed(S) by a woman,(T)
or if I have lurked at my neighbor’s door,
10 then may my wife grind(U) another man’s grain,
and may other men sleep with her.(V)
11 For that would have been wicked,(W)
a sin to be judged.(X)
12 It is a fire(Y) that burns to Destruction[a];(Z)
it would have uprooted my harvest.(AA)
13 “If I have denied justice to any of my servants,(AB)
whether male or female,
when they had a grievance against me,(AC)
14 what will I do when God confronts me?(AD)
What will I answer when called to account?(AE)
15 Did not he who made me in the womb make them?(AF)
Did not the same one form us both within our mothers?(AG)
16 “If I have denied the desires of the poor(AH)
or let the eyes of the widow(AI) grow weary,(AJ)
17 if I have kept my bread to myself,
not sharing it with the fatherless(AK)—
18 but from my youth I reared them as a father would,
and from my birth I guided the widow(AL)—
19 if I have seen anyone perishing for lack of clothing,(AM)
or the needy(AN) without garments,
20 and their hearts did not bless me(AO)
for warming them with the fleece(AP) from my sheep,
21 if I have raised my hand against the fatherless,(AQ)
knowing that I had influence in court,(AR)
22 then let my arm fall from the shoulder,
let it be broken off at the joint.(AS)
23 For I dreaded destruction from God,(AT)
and for fear of his splendor(AU) I could not do such things.(AV)
24 “If I have put my trust in gold(AW)
or said to pure gold, ‘You are my security,’(AX)
25 if I have rejoiced over my great wealth,(AY)
the fortune my hands had gained,(AZ)
26 if I have regarded the sun(BA) in its radiance
or the moon(BB) moving in splendor,
27 so that my heart was secretly enticed(BC)
and my hand offered them a kiss of homage,(BD)
28 then these also would be sins to be judged,(BE)
for I would have been unfaithful to God on high.(BF)
29 “If I have rejoiced at my enemy’s misfortune(BG)
or gloated over the trouble that came to him(BH)—
30 I have not allowed my mouth to sin
by invoking a curse against their life(BI)—
31 if those of my household have never said,
‘Who has not been filled with Job’s meat?’(BJ)—
32 but no stranger had to spend the night in the street,
for my door was always open to the traveler(BK)—
33 if I have concealed(BL) my sin as people do,[b]
by hiding(BM) my guilt in my heart
34 because I so feared the crowd(BN)
and so dreaded the contempt of the clans
that I kept silent(BO) and would not go outside—
35 (“Oh, that I had someone to hear me!(BP)
I sign now my defense—let the Almighty answer me;
let my accuser(BQ) put his indictment in writing.
36 Surely I would wear it on my shoulder,(BR)
I would put it on like a crown.(BS)
37 I would give him an account of my every step;(BT)
I would present it to him as to a ruler.(BU))—
38 “if my land cries out against me(BV)
and all its furrows are wet(BW) with tears,
39 if I have devoured its yield without payment(BX)
or broken the spirit of its tenants,(BY)
40 then let briers(BZ) come up instead of wheat
and stinkweed(CA) instead of barley.”
