²³ Why is light given to a man whose way is hidden,
^(A)And whom God has hedged in?

^8 (A)He has ^[a]fenced up my way, so that I cannot pass;
And He has set darkness in my paths.

⁹ He has blocked my ways with hewn stone;
He has made my paths crooked.

^8 (A)You have ^[a]put away my acquaintances far from me;
You have made me an abomination to them;
^(B)I am shut up, and I cannot get out;

⁸ And have not ^(A)shut^[a] me up into the hand of the enemy;
^(B)You have set my feet in a wide place.

¹² His troops come together
And build up their road against me;
They encamp all around my tent.

⁶ Know then that ^(A)God has wronged me,
And has surrounded me with His net.
