⁵ when the Almighty was still with me
    and my children^(A) were around me,^(B)

³ Children are a heritage from the Lord,
    offspring a reward^(A) from him.
⁴ Like arrows^(B) in the hands of a warrior
    are children born in one’s youth.
⁵ Blessed is the man
    whose quiver is full of them.^(C)
They will not be put to shame
    when they contend with their opponents^(D) in court.^(E)

⁷ Lord, when you favored me,
    you made my royal mountain^[a] stand firm;
but when you hid your face,^(A)
    I was dismayed.

²⁷ The eternal^(A) God is your refuge,^(B)
    and underneath are the everlasting^(C) arms.
He will drive out your enemies before you,^(D)
    saying, ‘Destroy them!’^(E)
28 So Israel will live in safety;^(F)
    Jacob will dwell^[a] secure
in a land of grain and new wine,
    where the heavens drop dew.^(G)
29 Blessed are you, Israel!^(H)
    Who is like you,^(I)
    a people saved by the Lord?^(J)
He is your shield and helper^(K)
    and your glorious sword.
Your enemies will cower before you,
    and you will tread on their heights.^(L)”

⁸ You who are the hope^(A) of Israel,
    its Savior^(B) in times of distress,^(C)
why are you like a stranger in the land,
    like a traveler who stays only a night?

⁶ Children’s children^(A) are a crown to the aged,
    and parents are the pride of their children.
