Job 27
Living Bible
27 Job’s final defense:
2 “I vow by the living God, who has taken away my rights, even the Almighty God who has embittered my soul, 3 that as long as I live, while I have breath from God, 4 my lips shall speak no evil, my tongue shall speak no lies. 5 I will never, never agree that you are right; until I die I will vow my innocence. 6 I am not a sinner—I repeat it again and again. My conscience is clear for as long as I live. 7 Those who declare otherwise are my wicked enemies. They are evil men.
8 “But what hope has the godless when God cuts him off and takes away his life? 9 Will God listen to his cry when trouble comes upon him? 10 For he does not delight himself in the Almighty or pay any attention to God except in times of crisis.
11 “I will teach you about God— 12 but really, I don’t need to, for you yourselves know as much about him as I do; yet you are saying all these useless things to me.
13 “This is the fate awaiting the wicked from the hand of the Almighty: 14 If he has a multitude of children, it is so that they will die in war or starve to death. 15 Those who survive shall be brought down to the grave by disease and plague, with no one to mourn them, not even their wives.
16 “The evil man may accumulate money like dust, with closets jammed full of clothing— 17 yes, he may order them made by his tailor, but the innocent shall wear that clothing and shall divide his silver among them. 18 Every house built by the wicked is as fragile as a spider web, as full of cracks as a leafy booth!
19 “He goes to bed rich but wakes up to find that all his wealth is gone. 20 Terror overwhelms him, and he is blown away in the storms of the night. 21 The east wind carries him away, and he is gone. It sweeps him into eternity. 22 For God shall hurl at him unsparingly. He longs to flee from God. 23 Everyone will cheer at his death and boo him into eternity.
Job 27
New King James Version
Job Maintains His Integrity
27 Moreover Job continued his discourse, and said:
2 “As God lives, (A)who has taken away my justice,
And the Almighty, who has made my soul bitter,
3 As long as my breath is in me,
And the breath of God in my nostrils,
4 My lips will not speak wickedness,
Nor my tongue utter deceit.
5 Far be it from me
That I should say you are right;
Till I die (B)I will not put away my integrity from me.
6 My righteousness I (C)hold fast, and will not let it go;
(D)My heart shall not [a]reproach me as long as I live.
7 “May my enemy be like the wicked,
And he who rises up against me like the unrighteous.
8 (E)For what is the hope of the hypocrite,
Though he may gain much,
If God takes away his life?
9 (F)Will God hear his cry
When trouble comes upon him?
10 (G)Will he delight himself in the Almighty?
Will he always call on God?
11 “I will teach you [b]about the hand of God;
What is with the Almighty I will not conceal.
12 Surely all of you have seen it;
Why then do you behave with complete nonsense?
13 “This(H) is the portion of a wicked man with God,
And the heritage of oppressors, received from the Almighty:
14 (I)If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword;
And his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread.
15 Those who survive him shall be buried in death,
And (J)their[c] widows shall not weep,
16 Though he heaps up silver like dust,
And piles up clothing like clay—
17 He may pile it up, but (K)the just will wear it,
And the innocent will divide the silver.
18 He builds his house like a [d]moth,
(L)Like a [e]booth which a watchman makes.
19 The rich man will lie down,
[f]But not be gathered up;
He opens his eyes,
And he is (M)no more.
20 (N)Terrors overtake him like a flood;
A tempest steals him away in the night.
21 The east wind carries him away, and he is gone;
It sweeps him out of his place.
22 It hurls against him and does not (O)spare;
He flees desperately from its [g]power.
23 Men shall clap their hands at him,
And shall hiss him out of his place.

O discurso final de Jó
27 Jó continuou a falar:
2 “Juro pelo Deus vivo, que tirou de mim meus direitos,
pelo Todo-poderoso, que me encheu a alma de amargura:
3 enquanto eu viver
e tiver o fôlego de Deus nas narinas,
4 meus lábios não pronunciarão maldades,
e minha língua não falará mentiras.
5 Jamais darei razão a vocês;
defenderei até a morte minha integridade.
6 Afirmarei minha inocência sem hesitar;
11 Eu lhes ensinarei sobre o poder de Deus;
não esconderei nada a respeito do Todo-poderoso.
12 Vocês, porém, já viram tudo isso
e, no entanto, dizem essas coisas inúteis.
21 Um vento do leste os carrega, e desaparecem;
arranca-os de seu lugar.
22 Sopra violentamente sobre eles, sem piedade;
lutam para escapar de seu poder.
23 Então todos batem palmas
e riem deles com desprezo.”
