Jobs svar på Bildads tredje tal
26 Då tog Job till orda och sade:
2 Vilken hjälp har du ej gett den maktlöse,
hur har du ej stärkt den svages arm!
3 Vilka råd har du ej gett den ovise,
vilket överflöd av klokhet har du ej lagt i dagen!
4 För vem för du din talan
och vems ande utgår från dig?
5 De avlidna skälver,
likaså djupets vatten och de som bor där.
6 Dödsriket ligger naket för honom,
avgrunden[a] utan täckelse.
7 Han spänner ut himlen i norr över det tomma,
han hänger upp jorden på intet.
8 Han samlar upp vatten i sina moln,
och skyarna brister inte under bördan.
9 Han gömmer sin tron för vår åsyn,
han höljer den med sina skyar.
10 En välvd horisont har han satt över vattnen,
där ljuset gränsar mot mörkret.
11 Himlens pelare skälver,
de häpnar över hans bestraffningar.
12 Med sin kraft stillar[b] han havet,
genom sitt förstånd krossar han Rahab.[c]
13 Han andas och himlen blir klar.
Hans hand genomborrar den snabba ormen.
14 Se, detta är endast utkanterna av hans verk,
en svag viskning är allt vi hör om honom.
Hans dånande kraft, vem kan förstå den?

26 Då svarade Job:
2 Vilka underbara stöttepelare ni är alla tre! Tänk vad ni har uppmuntrat mig i min nöd!
3 Vilka sanningar ni har uttalat, och vilket förstånd ni har bevisat!
4 Vem har hjälpt er att finna alla dessa ord, och i vems anda har ni uttalat dem?
5-6 De döda står nakna och darrar inför Gud på den plats dit de kommit. Döden och dödsriket kan inte dölja något för Gud.
7 Han spänner ut himlen över tomma intet och hänger upp jorden på ingenting.
8 Han samlar regnet i tjocka moln, som inte brister.
9 Han höljer månen i moln.
10 Han sätter en gräns för havet och en gräns för dagen och natten.
11 Himlens pelare darrar vid hans tillrättavisning,
12 och för hans makt upprörs havets vågor. Hans vishet krossar den mäktigaste.
13 Av hans andedräkt formas skyarna, och hans hand genomborrar den starkaste.
14 Detta är bara något av vad han gör, en stilla viskning om hans makt. Vem kan förstå hans verkliga styrka och kraft?

Job Rebukes Bildad
26 But Job answered and said,

“What a help you are to the weak (powerless)!
How you have saved the arm that is without strength!
3
“How you have counseled the one who has no wisdom!
And how abundantly you have provided sound wisdom and helpful insight!
4
“To whom have you uttered [these] words?
And whose spirit [inspired what] came forth from you?
The Greatness of God
5
“The spirits of the dead tremble
Underneath the waters and their inhabitants.
6
“Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead) is naked before God,
And Abaddon (the place of destruction) has no covering [from His eyes].
7
“It is He who spreads out the north over emptiness
And [a]hangs the earth on nothing.
8
“He wraps the waters in His clouds [which otherwise would spill on earth all at once],
And the cloud does not burst under them.
9
“He covers the face of the [b]full moon
And spreads His cloud over it.
10
“He has inscribed a circular limit (the horizon) on the face of the waters
At the boundary between light and darkness.
11
“The pillars of the heavens tremble
And are terrified at His rebuke.
12
“He stirred up the sea by His power,
And by His understanding He smashed [proud] [c]Rahab.
13
“By His breath the heavens are cleared;
His hand has pierced the [swiftly] fleeing serpent.(A)
14
“Yet these are just the fringes of His ways [mere samples of His power],
The faintest whisper of His voice!
Who can contemplate the thunder of His [full] mighty power?”

26 But Job answered and said,
2 How hast thou helped him that is without power? how savest thou the arm that hath no strength?
3 How hast thou counselled him that hath no wisdom? and how hast thou plentifully declared the thing as it is?
4 To whom hast thou uttered words? and whose spirit came from thee?
5 Dead things are formed from under the waters, and the inhabitants thereof.
6 Hell is naked before him, and destruction hath no covering.
7 He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.
8 He bindeth up the waters in his thick clouds; and the cloud is not rent under them.
9 He holdeth back the face of his throne, and spreadeth his cloud upon it.
10 He hath compassed the waters with bounds, until the day and night come to an end.
11 The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at his reproof.
12 He divideth the sea with his power, and by his understanding he smiteth through the proud.
13 By his spirit he hath garnished the heavens; his hand hath formed the crooked serpent.
14 Lo, these are parts of his ways: but how little a portion is heard of him? but the thunder of his power who can understand?
