25 1-2 God is powerful; all must stand in awe of him;
he keeps his heavenly kingdom in peace.
Can anyone count the angels who serve him?
Is there any place where God's light does not shine?
Can anyone be righteous or pure in God's sight?
In his eyes even the moon is not bright,
    or the stars pure.
Then what about a human being, that worm, that insect?
What is a human life worth in God's eyes?

25 Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,

Dominion and fear are with him, he maketh peace in his high places.

Is there any number of his armies? and upon whom doth not his light arise?

How then can man be justified with God? or how can he be clean that is born of a woman?

Behold even to the moon, and it shineth not; yea, the stars are not pure in his sight.

How much less man, that is a worm? and the son of man, which is a worm?

Bildad Speaks: Man Cannot Be Righteous

25 Then (A)Bildad the Shuhite answered and said:

“Dominion and fear are with God;[a]
he makes peace in his high heaven.
Is there any number to his (B)armies?
Upon whom does his (C)light not arise?
How then can man be (D)in the right before God?
How can he who is (E)born of woman be (F)pure?
Behold, even the moon is not bright,
    and the stars are not pure in his eyes;
(G)how much less man, who is (H)a maggot,
and (I)the son of man, who is a worm!”

25 Then Bildad the Shuhite(A) replied:

“Dominion and awe belong to God;(B)
he establishes order in the heights of heaven.(C)
Can his forces be numbered?
On whom does his light not rise?(D)
How then can a mortal be righteous before God?
How can one born of woman be pure?(E)
If even the moon(F) is not bright
and the stars are not pure in his eyes,(G)
how much less a mortal, who is but a maggot—
    a human being,(H) who is only a worm!”(I)

25 Then Bildad (the) Shuhite answered, and said,

Power and dread is with him, that is, God, which maketh according in his high things. (Power and reverence is with God/Power and fear is with God, who maketh peace in all his high places.)

Whether there is (a) number of his knights? (Can his host be counted?) and upon whom shineth not his light?

Whether a man comparisoned to God may be justified, either a man born of a woman may appear clean? (Can a man be justified when compared to God, or can a man born of a woman ever be pure, or innocent?)

Lo! also the moon shineth not, and [the] stars be not clean in his sight; (Lo! to his eyes, the moon shineth not, and the stars be not pure;)

how much more man, that is rot, and the son of a man, that is a worm, is unclean, (and vile,) in comparison to God. (and so how much more a man, who is but rot, and the son of a man, who is but a worm, be unclean, and vile, when compared to God.)
