Bildad Speaks: No One Is Righteous to God
25 Then Bildad from Shuah replied ⌞to Job⌟,
2 “Authority and terror belong to God.
He establishes peace in his high places.
3 Is there any ⌞limit to the⌟ number of his troops?
Is there anyone on whom his light does not rise?
4 How can a person be righteous to God?
How can anyone born of a woman be pure?
5 Even the moon isn’t bright,
and the stars aren’t pure in his sight.
6 How much less pure is a mortal—who is only a maggot—
a descendant of Adam—who is only a worm!”

L’homme pourrait-il être pur ?
25 Et Bildad de Shouah prit la parole et dit :
2 Il détient un pouvoir ╵souverain, effrayant.
Il fait régner la paix ╵dans les lieux élevés.
3 Peut-on compter ses troupes[a],
et sur qui sa lumière ╵ne se lève-t-elle pas ?
4 Comment un homme ╵pourrrait-il être justifié ╵par-devers Dieu ?
Et comment l’être ╵né d’une femme ╵pourrait-il être pur ?
5 Si, devant lui, la lune même ╵est sans éclat,
si les étoiles ╵ne sont pas pures à ses yeux,
6 que dire alors de l’homme ╵qui n’est qu’un vermisseau,
de l’être humain ╵qui n’est qu’un ver ?

25 Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,
2 Dominion and fear are with him, he maketh peace in his high places.
3 Is there any number of his armies? and upon whom doth not his light arise?
4 How then can man be justified with God? or how can he be clean that is born of a woman?
5 Behold even to the moon, and it shineth not; yea, the stars are not pure in his sight.
6 How much less man, that is a worm? and the son of man, which is a worm?

25 Darauf antwortete Bildad aus Schuach:
2 »Gott allein ist der Herr,
in Ehrfurcht müssen alle vor ihm stehen!
Für Frieden sorgt er in seinen Himmelshöhen.
3 Niemand zählt die Engelscharen, die ihm dienen;
keinen Ort gibt es, über dem sein Licht nicht scheint!
4 Wie kann da ein Mensch gegenüber Gott im Recht sein?
Steht ein Sterblicher vor ihm vollkommen da?
5 Wenn in Gottes Augen nicht einmal der Mond hell scheint
und dem Sternenlicht die Klarheit fehlt,
6 wie sollte da ein Mensch vor ihm bestehen können –
diese Made, dieser Wurm!«

25 Then Bildad the Shuhite(A) replied:
2 “Dominion and awe belong to God;(B)
he establishes order in the heights of heaven.(C)
3 Can his forces be numbered?
On whom does his light not rise?(D)
4 How then can a mortal be righteous before God?
How can one born of woman be pure?(E)
5 If even the moon(F) is not bright
and the stars are not pure in his eyes,(G)
6 how much less a mortal, who is but a maggot—
a human being,(H) who is only a worm!”(I)
