24 Si Dios todopoderoso
se reserva tiempos de juicio,
¿por qué sus fieles no los descubren?
2 Hay personas que remueven linderos,
roban rebaños y los llevan a apacentar;
3 se llevan el asno del huérfano,
y en prenda el buey de la viuda;
4 apartan del camino a los necesitados,
los pobres de la región se esconden.
5 Hay otros que, como onagros,
viajeros de la estepa,
madrugan para iniciar su tarea,
en busca de la presa,
mientras la estepa alimenta a sus crías.
6 Espigan en el campo del inicuo,
rebuscan en la viña del malvado;
7 pasan la noche desnudos,
sin ropa alguna que ponerse,
sin abrigo, expuestos al frío.
8 La lluvia del monte los empapa;
sin refugio, se arriman a las rocas.
9 Arrancan del pecho al huérfano
y toman en prenda al hijo del pobre.
10 Andan desnudos, sin ropa;
hambrientos, acarrean gavillas.
11 Prensan aceite en el molino;
sedientos, pisan en el lagar.
12 Moribundos gimen en la ciudad,
¡gritos de auxilio de los heridos!
Pero Dios nada malo ve en ello.
13 Otros son rebeldes a la luz:
no conocen sus caminos,
no suelen andar por sus senderos.
14 El asesino madruga con el alba
para matar a pobres y necesitados;
por la noche se dedica a robar.
15 El adúltero acecha entre dos luces
y piensa que no hay quien lo vea,
pues lleva cubierto su rostro.
16 De noche asaltan casas,
de día se encierran en ellas;
ignoran lo que es la luz.
17 Para ellos la mañana es sombra,
habituados al terror de la noche.
18 Son broza que arrastra el agua,
su hacienda es maldita en la tierra,
nadie toma el sendero de su viña.
19 Sequía y bochorno derriten la nieve;
de igual modo el reino de los muertos
arrebata a los pecadores.
20 El seno materno los olvida,
son la delicia de los gusanos;
su nombre no es recordado.
¡Es tronchada como un árbol la injusticia!
21 Maltratan a la estéril sin hijos
y privan de bienes a la viuda.
22 Aunque siga el poderoso en el poder
y parezca prosperar, su vida es insegura;
23 Dios puede hacer que se sienta confiado,
pero sus ojos vigilan todos sus pasos.
24 Se encumbra un momento y ya no existe;
se abate como flor que se marchita,
se agosta lo mismo que una espiga.
25 Esto es así, ¿quién me dejará por mentiroso,
restando valor a mis argumentos?

and why do those who know him never see his (C)days?
2 Some move (D)landmarks;
they seize flocks and pasture them.
3 They drive away the donkey of the fatherless;
they (E)take the widow's ox for a pledge.
4 They (F)thrust the poor off the road;
the poor of the earth (G)all hide themselves.
5 Behold, like wild donkeys in the desert
the poor[a] (H)go out to their toil, (I)seeking game;
the wasteland yields food for their children.
6 They gather their[b] fodder in the field,
and they glean the vineyard of the wicked man.
7 They (J)lie all night naked, without clothing,
and have no covering in the cold.
8 They are wet with the rain of the mountains
and (K)cling to the rock for lack of shelter.
9 (There are those who snatch the fatherless child from the breast,
and they take a pledge against the poor.)
10 They go about naked, without clothing;
hungry, they (L)carry the sheaves;
11 among the olive rows of the wicked[c] they make oil;
they tread the winepresses, but suffer thirst.
12 From out of the city the dying[d] groan,
and the soul of (M)the wounded cries for help;
yet God charges no one with (N)wrong.
13 “There are those who rebel (O)against the light,
who are not acquainted with its ways,
and do not stay in its paths.
14 The murderer rises before it is light,
that he (P)may kill the poor and needy,
and in the night he is like a thief.
15 The eye of the adulterer also waits for (Q)the twilight,
saying, ‘No (R)eye will see me’;
and he veils his face.
16 In the dark they (S)dig through houses;
by day they shut themselves up;
they do not know the light.
17 For (T)deep darkness is morning to all of them;
for they are friends with the terrors of deep darkness.
18 “You say, (U)‘Swift are they on the face of the waters;
their portion is cursed in the land;
no treader turns toward their vineyards.
19 Drought and heat snatch away the snow waters;
so does (V)Sheol those who have sinned.
20 The womb forgets them;
the worm finds them sweet;
they are (W)no longer remembered,
so wickedness is broken like (X)a tree.’
21 “They wrong the barren, childless woman,
and do no good to the widow.
22 Yet God[e] prolongs the life of the mighty by his power;
they rise up when they despair of life.
23 He gives them security, and they are supported,
and his (Y)eyes are upon their ways.
24 They are exalted (Z)a little while, and then (AA)are gone;
they are brought low and gathered up like all others;
they are (AB)cut off like the heads of grain.
25 If it is (AC)not so, who will prove me a liar
and show that there is nothing in what I say?”

and why do those who know him never see his days?
2 The wicked[b] remove landmarks;
they seize flocks and pasture them.
3 They drive away the donkey of the orphan;
they take the widow’s ox for a pledge.
4 They thrust the needy off the road;
the poor of the earth all hide themselves.
5 Like wild asses in the desert
they go out to their toil,
scavenging in the wasteland
food for their young.
6 They reap in a field not their own
and they glean in the vineyard of the wicked.
7 They lie all night naked, without clothing,
and have no covering in the cold.
8 They are wet with the rain of the mountains,
and cling to the rock for want of shelter.
9 “There are those who snatch the orphan child from the breast,
and take as a pledge the infant of the poor.
10 They go about naked, without clothing;
though hungry, they carry the sheaves;

they tread the wine presses, but suffer thirst.
12 From the city the dying groan,
and the throat of the wounded cries for help;
yet God pays no attention to their prayer.

19 As heat and drought snatch away the melted snow,(AT)
so the grave(AU) snatches away those who have sinned.
20 The womb forgets them,

the wicked are no longer remembered(AX)
but are broken like a tree.(AY)
21 They prey on the barren and childless woman,
and to the widow they show no kindness.(AZ)
22 But God drags away the mighty by his power;(BA)
though they become established,(BB) they have no assurance of life.(BC)
23 He may let them rest in a feeling of security,(BD)
but his eyes(BE) are on their ways.(BF)
24 For a little while they are exalted, and then they are gone;(BG)
they are brought low and gathered up like all others;(BH)

25 “If this is not so, who can prove me false
and reduce my words to nothing?”(BJ)
