Job Complains of Violence on the Earth
2 “Some remove (C)landmarks;
They seize flocks violently and feed on them;
3 They drive away the donkey of the fatherless;
They (D)take the widow’s ox as a pledge.
4 They push the needy off the road;
All the (E)poor of the land are forced to hide.
5 Indeed, like wild donkeys in the desert,
They go out to their work, searching for food.
The wilderness yields food for them and for their children.
6 They gather their fodder in the field
And glean in the vineyard of the wicked.
7 They (F)spend the night naked, without clothing,
And have no covering in the cold.
8 They are wet with the showers of the mountains,
And (G)huddle around the rock for want of shelter.
9 “Some snatch the fatherless from the breast,
And take a pledge from the poor.
10 They cause the poor to go naked, without (H)clothing;
And they take away the sheaves from the hungry.
11 They press out oil within their walls,
And tread winepresses, yet suffer thirst.
12 The dying groan in the city,
And the souls of the wounded cry out;
Yet God does not charge them with wrong.
13 “There are those who rebel against the light;
They do not know its ways
Nor abide in its paths.
14 (I)The murderer rises with the light;
He kills the poor and needy;
And in the night he is like a thief.
15 (J)The eye of the adulterer waits for the twilight,
(K)Saying, ‘No eye will see me’;
And he [a]disguises his face.
16 In the dark they break into houses
Which they marked for themselves in the daytime;
(L)They do not know the light.
17 For the morning is the same to them as the shadow of death;
If someone recognizes them,
They are in the terrors of the shadow of death.
18 “They should be swift on the face of the waters,
Their portion should be cursed in the earth,
So that no one would turn into the way of their vineyards.
19 As drought and heat [b]consume the snow waters,
So [c]the grave consumes those who have sinned.
20 The womb should forget him,
The worm should feed sweetly on him;
(M)He should be remembered no more,
And wickedness should be broken like a tree.
21 For he [d]preys on the barren who do not bear,
And does no good for the widow.
22 “But God draws the mighty away with His power;
He rises up, but no man is sure of life.
23 He gives them security, and they rely on it;
Yet (N)His eyes are on their ways.
24 They are exalted for a little while,
Then they are gone.
They are brought low;
They are [e]taken out of the way like all others;
They dry out like the heads of grain.
25 “Now if it is not so, who will prove me a liar,
And make my speech worth nothing?”

24 Why, seeing times are not hidden from the Almighty, do they that know him not see his days?
2 Some remove the landmarks; they violently take away flocks, and feed thereof.
3 They drive away the ass of the fatherless, they take the widow’s ox for a pledge.
4 They turn the needy out of the way: the poor of the earth hide themselves together.
5 Behold, as wild asses in the desert, go they forth to their work; rising betimes for a prey: the wilderness yieldeth food for them and for their children.
6 They reap every one his corn in the field: and they gather the vintage of the wicked.
7 They cause the naked to lodge without clothing, that they have no covering in the cold.
8 They are wet with the showers of the mountains, and embrace the rock for want of a shelter.
9 They pluck the fatherless from the breast, and take a pledge of the poor.
10 They cause him to go naked without clothing, and they take away the sheaf from the hungry;
11 Which make oil within their walls, and tread their winepresses, and suffer thirst.
12 Men groan from out of the city, and the soul of the wounded crieth out: yet God layeth not folly to them.

21 He evil entreateth the barren that beareth not: and doeth not good to the widow.
22 He draweth also the mighty with his power: he riseth up, and no man is sure of life.
23 Though it be given him to be in safety, whereon he resteth; yet his eyes are upon their ways.
24 They are exalted for a little while, but are gone and brought low; they are taken out of the way as all other, and cut off as the tops of the ears of corn.
25 And if it be not so now, who will make me a liar, and make my speech nothing worth?

Job tycker att Gud är orättvis
24 Varför ordnar Gud inte en rättegång och lyssnar till mitt fall? Varför måste den gudfruktige vänta på honom förgäves?
2 Gränsstenar flyttas och fårhjordar blir stulna,
3 och till och med den faderlöses åsna och änkans oxe blir tagna i pant.
4 De behövande knuffas åt sidan. De måste ur vägen.
5 Precis som vildåsnorna i öknen måste de fattiga använda all sin tid till att skaffa mat för att överleva. I öknen letar de efter mat åt sina barn.
6 De äter vad de kan hitta av sådant som växer vilt och rensar rent i de ogudaktigas vingårdar.
7 Om natten ligger de nakna i kylan utan något att skyla sig med.
8 De blir genomvåta av skurarna från bergen och försöker ta skydd bland klipporna.
9 Faderlösa barn slits från sina mödrars bröst, och den fattige måste ge sitt spädbarn som pant för sin skuld.
10 Det är därför de alla går omkring nakna och tvingas bära andras mat medan de själva svälter.
11 De tvingas pressa olivolja utan att få smaka den och att trampa vinpressen medan de lider av törst.
12 De döendes rop hörs från staden. De sårade ropar på hjälp, och ändå anklagar inte Gud någon för att ha handlat fel.
13 Det finns sådana som alldeles har förlorat känslan för rätt och fel och döljer sig i mörkret.
14-15 När skymningen kommer, stiger mördaren upp för att döda försvarslösa fattiga och nödlidande. Natten är tjuvens och äktenskapsbrytarens tid. I skydd av mörkret och bakom sin förklädnad tror de att ingen ska kunna känna igen dem.
16 De bryter sig in i husen om nätterna och sover på dagarna därför att de inte vill veta av ljuset.
17 Den mörka natten är deras morgon, och de blir till ett med mörkrets fasor.
18 Men hur snabbt försvinner de inte från jordens yta! Deras mark är drabbad av förbannelse. De efterlämnar inga tillhörigheter åt sina barn.
19 Graven suger upp syndaren som värme och torka suger upp snö och smältvatten.
20 Till och med syndarens egen mor ska glömma honom. Maskarna ska äta honom, och ingen ska längre minnas honom. De onda faller som träd i storm,
21 för de har utnyttjat de barnlösa, som saknar det försvar som egna söner innebär, och de har vägrat att hjälpa behövande änkor.
22-23 Ändå ser det ibland ut som om Gud bevarar de rika genom sin makt och låter dem leva, fast andra i samma situation säkert skulle ha gått under. Gud ger dem en falsk känsla av trygghet och styrka, men han ser vad de gör.
24 För en tid är de mäktiga, men snart är de borta som alla andra, nermejade som säd och uppsamlade som sädesax.
25 Är det någon som kan påstå något annat? Vem kan säga att jag ljuger, och vem törs hävda att jag har fel?
