²⁰ For all who do evil hate the light and do not come to the light, so that their deeds may not be exposed.^(A)

¹¹ Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness; rather, expose them.^{(A) 12} For it is shameful even to mention what such people do secretly, ¹³ but everything exposed by the light becomes visible,

⁴³ But understand this: if the owner of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into.^(A)

Concerning Treasures

¹⁹ “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust^[a] consume and where thieves break in and steal,^(A)

¹² And the prince who is among them shall lift his baggage on his shoulder in the dark and shall go out; he^[a] shall dig through the wall and carry it through; he shall cover his face so that he may not see the land with his eyes.^(A)

⁵ Dig through the wall in their sight, and carry the baggage through it. ⁶ In their sight you shall lift the baggage on your shoulder and carry it out in the dark; you shall cover your face, so that you may not see the land, for I have made you a sign for the house of Israel.^(A)

⁷ I did just as I was commanded. I brought out my baggage by day, as baggage for exile, and in the evening I dug through the wall with my own hands; I brought it out in the dark, carrying it on my shoulder in their sight.

^2 [a](If the thief is found breaking in and is struck dead, no bloodguilt is incurred;^{(A) 3} but if it happens after sunrise, bloodguilt is incurred.) The thief shall make full restitution or, if unable to do so, shall be sold for the theft.^(B)
