Job defiende su causa delante de Dios
23 Respondió Job y dijo:
2 «Hoy también hablaré con amargura,
porque es más grave mi llaga que mi gemido.
3 ¡Quién me diera el saber dónde hallar a Dios!
Yo iría hasta su morada,
4 expondría mi causa delante de él
y llenaría mi boca de argumentos.
5 Yo sabría lo que él me respondiese
y entendería lo que me dijera.
6 ¿Contendería conmigo con la grandeza de fuerza?
¡No, sino que él me atendería!
7 Allí el justo razonaría con él
y yo escaparía para siempre de mi juez.
8 »Si me dirijo al oriente, no lo encuentro;
si al occidente, no lo descubro.
9 Si él muestra su poder en el norte, yo no lo veo;
ni tampoco lo veo si se oculta en el sur.
10 Mas él conoce mi camino:
si me prueba, saldré como el oro.
11 Mis pies han seguido sus pisadas;
permanecí en su camino, sin apartarme de él.
12 Nunca me separé del mandamiento de sus labios,
sino que guardé las palabras de su boca más que mi comida.
13 »Pero si él decide una cosa, ¿quién lo hará cambiar?
Lo que desea, lo realiza.
14 Él, pues, llevará a término lo que ha decidido en cuanto a mí,
y muchas cosas semejantes que tiene en su propósito.
15 Por eso, me espanto en su presencia;
cuando lo considero, tiemblo a causa de él.
16 Dios ha enervado mi corazón;
me ha aterrado el Omnipotente.
17 ¿Por qué no fui aniquilado por las tinieblas?
¿Por qué no fue cubierto por la oscuridad mi rostro?

23 约伯回答说：
2 “直到今日我还有苦情要申诉，
我虽然叹息，他的手仍然沉重。
3 但愿我知道怎样能寻见 神，
能到他的台前来。
4 好让我在他面前呈上我的案件，
满口辩论向他申诉；
5 知道他要回答我的话，
明白他对我说甚么。
6 他会以大能与我相争吗？
必不会这样，他必关怀我。
7 在他那里正直人可以与他彼此辩论，
这样，我就必永远摆脱那审判我的。
8 可是我往前走，他不在那里；
我若往后退，我也不能见他。
9 他在左边行事，我却见不到；
他在右边隐藏，我却看不见。
10 可是他知道我所行的道路，
他试炼我以后，我必像精金出现。
自言未曾背道
11 我的脚紧随他的脚步，
我谨守他的道，并不偏离。
12 他嘴唇的命令我没有离弃，
我珍藏他口中的言语，
胜过我需用的饮食（“胜过我需用的饮食”或可参照《七十士译本》等古译本翻译为“在我的心胸”）。
13 但是他既已定意，谁能使他转意呢？
他心里所愿的，就行出来。
14 他为我所定的，他必成全，
这类的事情，他还有许多。
15 因此我在他面前惊惶，
一想到这事，我就惧怕他。
16 神使我心里胆怯，
全能者使我惊惶，
17 因为我在黑暗面前并没有被消灭，
也不怕幽暗遮盖着我的脸。”

23 Then Job replied:
2 “Even today my complaint(A) is bitter;(B)
his hand[a] is heavy in spite of[b] my groaning.(C)
3 If only I knew where to find him;
if only I could go to his dwelling!(D)
4 I would state my case(E) before him
and fill my mouth with arguments.(F)
5 I would find out what he would answer me,(G)
and consider what he would say to me.
6 Would he vigorously oppose me?(H)
No, he would not press charges against me.(I)
7 There the upright(J) can establish their innocence before him,(K)
and there I would be delivered forever from my judge.(L)
8 “But if I go to the east, he is not there;
if I go to the west, I do not find him.
9 When he is at work in the north, I do not see him;
when he turns to the south, I catch no glimpse of him.(M)
10 But he knows the way that I take;(N)
when he has tested me,(O) I will come forth as gold.(P)
11 My feet have closely followed his steps;(Q)
I have kept to his way without turning aside.(R)
12 I have not departed from the commands of his lips;(S)
I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.(T)
13 “But he stands alone, and who can oppose him?(U)
He does whatever he pleases.(V)
14 He carries out his decree against me,
and many such plans he still has in store.(W)
15 That is why I am terrified before him;(X)
when I think of all this, I fear him.(Y)
16 God has made my heart faint;(Z)
the Almighty(AA) has terrified me.(AB)
17 Yet I am not silenced by the darkness,(AC)
by the thick darkness that covers my face.
