Job Says He Longs for God

23 Then Job [a]replied,

“Even today my (A)complaint is rebellion;
[b]His hand is (B)heavy despite my groaning.
“Oh that I knew where I might find Him,
That I might come to His seat!
“I would (C)present my case before Him
And fill my mouth with arguments.
“I would learn the words which He would [c]answer,
And perceive what He would say to me.
“Would He contend with me by (D)the greatness of His power?
No, surely He would pay attention to me.
“There the upright would (E)reason with Him;
And I [d]would be (F)delivered forever from my Judge.

“Behold, I go forward but He is not there,
And backward, but I (G)cannot perceive Him;
When He acts on the left, I cannot behold Him;
He turns on the right, I cannot see Him.
10 “But He knows the [e]way I take;
When He has (H)tried me, I shall come forth as gold.
11 “My foot has (I)held fast to His path;
I have kept His way and not turned aside.
12 “I have not departed from the command of His lips;
I have treasured the (J)words of His mouth [f]more than my [g]necessary food.
13 “But He is unique and who can turn Him?
And what His soul desires, that He does.
14 “For He performs what is appointed for me,
And many such decrees are with Him.
15 “Therefore, I would be dismayed at His presence;
When I consider, I am terrified of Him.
16 It is God who has made my (K)heart faint,
And the Almighty who has dismayed me,
17 But I (L)am not silenced by the darkness,
Nor (M)deep gloom which covers me.

Wisdom Warns

20 (A)Wisdom shouts in the street,
She [a]lifts her voice in the square;
21 At the head of the noisy streets she cries out;
At the entrance of the gates in the city she utters her sayings:
22 “How long, O [b](B)naive ones, will you love [c]being simple-minded?
And (C)scoffers delight themselves in scoffing
And fools (D)hate knowledge?
23 “Turn to my reproof,
Behold, I will (E)pour out my spirit on you;
I will make my words known to you.

21 When (A)His own [a]people heard of this, they went out to take custody of Him; for they were saying, “(B)He has lost His senses.” 22 The scribes who came down (C)from Jerusalem were saying, “He is possessed by [b](D)Beelzebul,” and “(E)He casts out the demons by the ruler of the demons.” 23 (F)And He called them to Himself and began speaking to them in (G)parables, “How can (H)Satan cast out Satan? 24 If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 If a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. 26 If (I)Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but [c]he is finished! 27 (J)But no one can enter the strong man’s house and plunder his property unless he first binds the strong man, and then he will plunder his house.

28 (K)Truly I say to you, all sins shall be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they utter; 29 but (L)whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin” 30 because they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit.”

31 (M)Then His mother and His brothers *arrived, and standing outside they sent word to Him and called Him. 32 A crowd was sitting around Him, and they *said to Him, “Behold, Your mother and Your brothers are outside looking for You.” 33 Answering them, He *said, “Who are My mother and My brothers?” 34 Looking about at those who were sitting around Him, He *said, (N)Behold My mother and My brothers! 35 For whoever (O)does the will of God, he is My brother and sister and mother.”
