Is it because of your reverent fear that He reproves you,
That He (A)enters into judgment against you?
Is not (B)your evil great,
And your iniquities without end?
For you have (C)taken pledges of your brothers without cause,
And (D)stripped the clothing of the naked.
To the weary you have (E)given no water to drink,
And from the hungry you have (F)withheld bread.
But the earth (G)belongs to the (H)mighty man,
And (I)the [a]highly respected man inhabits it.
You have sent (J)widows away empty,
And the [b]might of the (K)orphans has been crushed.
10 Therefore (L)snares surround you,
And sudden (M)dread terrifies you,
11 Or (N)darkness, so that you cannot see,
And an (O)abundance of water covers you.

  2. Job 22:9 Lit arms

Does he reprove you because of your reverence
or enter into judgment with you?
Is not your wickedness great,

“Indeed, you have required a pledge from your family for nothing,
and you have stripped off the clothes of the naked.
You have given no water for the weary to drink,
and you withheld food from the hungry.
And the land belongs to the man of power,[a]
and the favored[b] lives in it.
You have sent widows away empty-handed,
and the arms of orphans were crushed.
10 Therefore trapping nets are all around you,
and panic suddenly terrifies you,
11 or it is so dark you cannot see,
and a flood of water covers you.
