because of your piety?(A)
Isn’t your wickedness abundant
and aren’t your iniquities endless?
For you took collateral(B) from your brothers without cause,
stripping off their clothes and leaving them naked.
You gave no water to the thirsty
and withheld food from the famished,(C)
while the land belonged to a powerful man
and an influential man lived on it.
You sent widows away empty-handed,
and the strength of the fatherless(D) was[a] crushed.
10 Therefore snares surround you,
and sudden dread terrifies(E) you,
11 or darkness, so you cannot see,
and a flood of water covers you.(F)

The land belongs to the powerful,
and the privileged[c] thrive in it.
You sent away widows empty-handed,
and broke the outstretched arms of orphans.
10 That’s why disaster surrounds you,
    terror suddenly overwhelms you,
11 you see nothing but darkness,
and a flood of troubles[d] drowns you.”
