22 Y respondió Elifaz temanita, y dijo:
2 ¿Por ventura traerá el hombre provecho a Dios? Porque para sí mismo es provechoso el sabio.
3 ¿Por ventura tiene su contentamiento el Omnipotente en que tú seas justificado, o le viene algún provecho de que tú hagas perfectos tus caminos?
4 ¿Por ventura te reprenderá acaso, o vendrá contigo a juicio porque te teme?
5 Por cierto tu malicia es grande, y tus iniquidades no tienen fin.
6 Porque sacaste prenda a tus hermanos sin causa, e hiciste desnudar las ropas de los desnudos.
7 No diste de beber agua al cansado, y detuviste el pan al hambriento.
8 Pero el hombre pudiente tuvo la tierra; y habitó en ella el honrado.
9 A las viudas enviaste vacías, y los brazos de los huérfanos fueron quebrados.
10 Por tanto hay lazos alrededor de ti, y te turba espanto repentino;
11 o tinieblas, para que no veas; y abundancia de agua te cubre.
12 ¿Por ventura Dios no está en la altura de los cielos? ¡Mira la altura de las estrellas, cómo son altas!
13 ¿Y dirás tú: Qué sabe Dios? ¿Cómo juzgará por medio de la oscuridad?
14 Las nubes son su escondedero, y no ve; y por el cerco del cielo se pasea.
15 ¿Quieres tú guardar la senda antigua, que pisaron los varones perversos?
16 Los cuales fueron cortados antes de tiempo, cuyo fundamento fue derramado con un diluvio.
17 Que decían a Dios: Apartate de nosotros, y ¿qué nos ha de hacer el Omnipotente?
18 El les había llenado sus casas de bienes. Por tanto el consejo de los impíos está lejos de mí.
19 Verán los justos y se gozarán; y el inocente los escarnecerá, diciendo:
20 ¿Por ventura fue cortada nuestra sustancia, habiendo consumido el fuego el resto de ellos?
21 ¶ Amístate ahora con él, y tendrás paz; y por ello te vendrá bien.
22 Toma ahora la ley de su boca, y pon sus palabras en tu corazón.
23 Si te volvieres al Omnipotente, serás edificado; alejarás de tu tienda la iniquidad;
24 y tendrás más oro que tierra, y como piedras de arroyos oro de Ofir.
25 Y el Todopoderoso será tu defensa, y tendrás plata a montones.
26 Porque entonces te deleitarás en el Omnipotente, y alzarás a Dios tu rostro.
27 Orarás a él, y él te oirá; y tú pagarás tus promesas.
28 Determinarás asimismo una cosa, y te será firme; y sobre tus caminos resplandecerá luz.
29 Cuando los otros fueren abatidos, dirás tú: Ensalzamiento habrá; y él salvará al humilde de ojos.
30 La isla del inocente escapará; y en la limpieza de tus manos será guardado.

22 Entonces respondió Elifaz:
2 «Tú podrás ser muy sabio,
pero eso a Dios no le sirve de nada.
3 Nada gana el Dios todopoderoso
con que seas un hombre bueno.
4 Si realmente obedecieras a Dios,
él no te reclamaría nada.
5 ¡Pero tu maldad es demasiada,
y tus pecados ni se pueden contar!
6 Y hasta por deudas pequeñas
exigiste ropa en garantía,
¡y dejaste desnudo al pobre!
7 No dabas agua al que tenía sed,
ni comida al que tenía hambre.
8 Fuiste un hombre poderoso
que se adueñó de la tierra;
9 a las viudas no les diste nada,
y a los huérfanos les quitaste todo.
10 Por eso ahora te ves atrapado,
y de pronto te asustas,
11 como si anduvieras en la oscuridad,
o la corriente de un río te arrastrara.
12 »Dios está en los cielos,
entre las altas y lejanas estrellas.
13-14 Vive entre espesas nubes,
pero eso no le impide
ver y saber lo que haces.
Si crees que no puede vernos,
recuerda que él recorre el cielo
de un extremo al otro.
15 »Si quieres seguir
el ejemplo de los malvados,
16 recuerda que ellos murieron
en plena juventud,
cuando un río destruyó sus casas.
17-18 Aunque el Dios todopoderoso
les dio todo lo mejor,
ellos le exigieron
que los dejara tranquilos.
No creyeron que él los castigaría.
¡Pero yo no pienso como ellos!
19 »La gente buena e inocente
se burla de los malvados,
y al verlos en desgracia dicen:
20 “¡El fuego ha destruido
las riquezas de nuestros enemigos!”
21 »Job, ponte en paz con Dios;
y él te hará prosperar de nuevo.
22-23 Vuelve la mirada al Todopoderoso;
apréndete de memoria sus enseñanzas,
y él te devolverá la felicidad.
24-25 Arroja entre las piedras de los ríos
todo el oro y la plata que tienes,
y tu riqueza será Dios mismo.
26 Él te hará muy feliz,
y ya no sentirás vergüenza.
27 Si tú le cumples tus promesas,
él escuchará tus oraciones;
28 entonces te irá bien
en todo lo que hagas,
y tu vida estará siempre iluminada.
29 Dios humilla a los orgullosos,
y levanta a los humildes.
30 Dios salva al que es inocente;
si tú lo eres, también te salvará».

17 Waxay Ilaah ku yidhaahdeen, War naga tag,
Bal maxaa Ilaaha Qaadirka ahu nagu samayn karaa?
18 Laakiin isagu wuxuu guryahooda ka buuxiyey waxyaalo wanwanaagsan;
Talada sharrowguse way iga fog tahay.

24 Khasnaddaada waxaad ku xoortaa ciidda,
Oo dahabka Oofirna waxaad ku dhex tuurtaa dhagaxyada durdurka,
25 Oo Ilaaha Qaadirka ahuna wuxuu kuu noqon doonaa khasnad,
Iyo lacag qiime badan.
26 Oo markaasaad Ilaaha Qaadirka ah ku farxi doontaa,
Oo wejigaagana Ilaah baad kor ugu qaadi doontaa.
27 Oo isagaad u tukan doontaa, oo isna wuu ku maqli doonaa,
Oo adna waxaad bixin doontaa waxyaalihii aad nidartay.
28 Adiguna wax baad amri doontaa, oo waa laguu adkayn doonaa;
Oo jidadkaaguna iftiin bay lahaan doonaan.
29 Markii hoos laguu tuuro, waxaad odhan doontaa, Waa lay sarraysiinayaa,
Oo qofkii hooseeyana isagaa badbaadin doona.
30 Oo wuxuu samatabbixin doonaa kii aan xaq qabin;

22 Then Eliphaz the Temanite(A) replied:
2 “Can a man be of benefit to God?(B)
Can even a wise person benefit him?(C)
3 What pleasure(D) would it give the Almighty if you were righteous?(E)
What would he gain if your ways were blameless?(F)
4 “Is it for your piety that he rebukes you
and brings charges against you?(G)
5 Is not your wickedness great?
Are not your sins(H) endless?(I)
6 You demanded security(J) from your relatives for no reason;(K)
you stripped people of their clothing, leaving them naked.(L)
7 You gave no water(M) to the weary
and you withheld food from the hungry,(N)
8 though you were a powerful man, owning land(O)—
an honored man,(P) living on it.(Q)
9 And you sent widows(R) away empty-handed(S)
and broke the strength of the fatherless.(T)
10 That is why snares(U) are all around you,(V)
why sudden peril terrifies you,(W)
11 why it is so dark(X) you cannot see,
and why a flood of water covers you.(Y)
12 “Is not God in the heights of heaven?(Z)
And see how lofty are the highest stars!
13 Yet you say, ‘What does God know?(AA)
Does he judge through such darkness?(AB)
14 Thick clouds(AC) veil him, so he does not see us(AD)
as he goes about in the vaulted heavens.’(AE)
15 Will you keep to the old path
that the wicked(AF) have trod?(AG)
16 They were carried off before their time,(AH)
their foundations(AI) washed away by a flood.(AJ)
17 They said to God, ‘Leave us alone!
What can the Almighty do to us?’(AK)
18 Yet it was he who filled their houses with good things,(AL)
so I stand aloof from the plans of the wicked.(AM)
19 The righteous see their ruin and rejoice;(AN)
the innocent mock(AO) them, saying,
20 ‘Surely our foes are destroyed,(AP)
and fire(AQ) devours their wealth.’
21 “Submit to God and be at peace(AR) with him;(AS)
in this way prosperity will come to you.(AT)
22 Accept instruction from his mouth(AU)
and lay up his words(AV) in your heart.(AW)
23 If you return(AX) to the Almighty, you will be restored:(AY)
If you remove wickedness far from your tent(AZ)
24 and assign your nuggets(BA) to the dust,
your gold(BB) of Ophir(BC) to the rocks in the ravines,(BD)
25 then the Almighty will be your gold,(BE)
the choicest silver for you.(BF)
26 Surely then you will find delight in the Almighty(BG)
and will lift up your face(BH) to God.(BI)
27 You will pray to him,(BJ) and he will hear you,(BK)
and you will fulfill your vows.(BL)
28 What you decide on will be done,(BM)
and light(BN) will shine on your ways.(BO)
29 When people are brought low(BP) and you say, ‘Lift them up!’
then he will save the downcast.(BQ)
30 He will deliver even one who is not innocent,(BR)
who will be delivered through the cleanness of your hands.”(BS)

2 Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself?
3 Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gain to him, that thou makest thy ways perfect?
4 Will he reprove thee for fear of thee? will he enter with thee into judgment?
5 Is not thy wickedness great? and thine iniquities infinite?
6 For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
7 Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry.
8 But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honourable man dwelt in it.
9 Thou hast sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.
10 Therefore snares are round about thee, and sudden fear troubleth thee;
11 Or darkness, that thou canst not see; and abundance of waters cover thee.
12 Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are!
13 And thou sayest, How doth God know? can he judge through the dark cloud?
14 Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit of heaven.
15 Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden?
16 Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood:
17 Which said unto God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them?
18 Yet he filled their houses with good things: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
19 The righteous see it, and are glad: and the innocent laugh them to scorn.
20 Whereas our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire consumeth.
21 Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.
22 Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.
23 If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles.
24 Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.
25 Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defence, and thou shalt have plenty of silver.
26 For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.
27 Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows.
28 Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.
29 When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.
30 He shall deliver the island of the innocent: and it is delivered by the pureness of thine hands.
