¹¹ or darkness so that you cannot see;
    a flood of water covers you.^(A)

⁵⁴ water closed over my head;
    I said, “I am lost.”^(A)

¹ Save me, O God,
    for the waters have come up to my neck.^(A)
2 I sink in deep mire,
    where there is no foothold;
I have come into deep waters,
    and the flood sweeps over me.^(B)

³ You cast me into the deep,
    into the heart of the seas,
    and the flood surrounded me;
all your waves and your billows
    passed over me.^(A)

⁴ then the flood would have swept us away;
    the torrent would have gone over us;^(A)
5 then over us would have gone
    the raging waters.

⁸ He has walled up my way so that I cannot pass,
    and he has set darkness upon my paths.^(A)

² a day of darkness and gloom,
    a day of clouds and thick darkness!
Like blackness spread upon the mountains,
    a great and powerful army comes;
their like has never been from of old,
    nor will be again after them
    in ages to come.^(A)
