Respuesta de Job a Zofar
21 Entonces respondió Job, y dijo:
2 Escuchad atentamente mis palabras,
y que sea este vuestro consuelo para mí.
3 Tened paciencia y hablaré;
y después que haya hablado, os podréis burlar(A).
4 En cuanto a mí, ¿me quejo yo al[a] hombre(B)?
¿Y por qué no he de ser[b] impaciente(C)?
5 Miradme, y quedaos atónitos,
y poned la mano sobre vuestra boca(D).
6 Aun cuando me acuerdo, me perturbo,
y el horror se apodera de mi carne(E).
7 ¿Por qué siguen viviendo los impíos,
envejecen(F), también se hacen muy poderosos(G)?
8 En su presencia se afirman con ellos sus descendientes[c],
y sus vástagos delante de sus ojos(H);
9 sus casas están libres de temor,
y no está la vara de Dios sobre ellos(I).
10 Su toro engendra sin fallar[d],
su vaca pare y no aborta.
11 Envían fuera a sus pequeños cual rebaño,
y sus niños andan saltando.
12 Cantan[e] con pandero y arpa,
y al son de la flauta se regocijan.
13 Pasan sus días en prosperidad(J),
y de repente descienden al[f] Seol[g].
14 Y dicen a Dios: «¡Apártate de nosotros(K)!
No deseamos el conocimiento de tus caminos.
15 ¿Quién[h] es el Todopoderoso[i], para que le sirvamos,
y qué ganaríamos con rogarle(L)?».
16 He aquí, no está en mano de ellos su prosperidad;
el consejo de los impíos lejos está de mí(M).
17 ¿Cuántas veces es apagada la lámpara de los impíos(N),
o cae sobre ellos su calamidad(O)?
¿Reparte Dios[j] dolores en su ira?
18 ¿Son como paja delante del viento(P),
y como tamo que arrebata el torbellino(Q)?
19 Decís: «Dios guarda la iniquidad de un hombre[k] para sus hijos(R)».
Que Dios[l] le pague para que aprenda.
20 Vean sus ojos su ruina(S),
y beba de la furia del Todopoderoso[m](T).
21 Pues ¿qué le importa la suerte de su casa después de él[n]
cuando el número de sus meses haya sido cortado?
22 ¿Puede enseñarse a Dios sabiduría(U),
siendo que Él juzga a los encumbrados(V)?
23 Uno muere en pleno vigor,
estando completamente tranquilo y satisfecho[o](W);
24 sus ijares están repletos de grosura[p],
húmeda está la médula de sus huesos(X),
25 mientras otro muere con alma amargada,
y sin haber probado[q] nada bueno.
26 Juntos yacen en el polvo(Y),
y los gusanos los cubren(Z).
27 He aquí, yo conozco vuestros pensamientos,
y los designios con los cuales me dañaríais.
28 Porque decís: «¿Dónde está la casa del noble(AA),
y dónde la tienda donde moraban los impíos(AB)?».
29 ¿No habéis preguntado a los caminantes,
y no reconocéis su testimonio[r]?
30 Porque el impío es preservado para el día de la destrucción(AC);
ellos serán conducidos en el día de la ira(AD).
31 ¿Quién le declarará en su cara sus acciones,
y quién le pagará por lo que ha hecho?
32 Mientras es llevado al sepulcro,
velarán sobre su túmulo.
33 Los terrones del valle suavemente le cubrirán[s](AE),
y le seguirán[t] todos los hombres,
e innumerables otros irán delante de él(AF).
34 ¿Cómo, pues, me consoláis(AG) en vano?
Vuestras respuestas están llenas de falsedad[u].

21 約伯回答說： 2 「你們要細聽我的言語，就算是你們安慰我。 3 請寬容我，我又要說話，說了以後，任憑你們嗤笑吧！ 4 我豈是向人訴冤，為何不焦急呢？ 5 你們要看著我而驚奇，用手摀口。 6 我每逢思想，心就驚惶，渾身戰兢。 7 惡人為何存活，享大壽數，勢力強盛呢？ 8 他們眼見兒孫，和他們一同堅立。 9 他們的家宅平安無懼，神的杖也不加在他們身上。 10 他們的公牛孳生而不斷絕，母牛下犢而不掉胎。 11 他們打發小孩子出去，多如羊群，他們的兒女踴躍跳舞。 12 他們隨著琴鼓歌唱，又因簫聲歡喜。 13 他們度日諸事亨通，轉眼下入陰間。 14 他們對神說：『離開我們吧，我們不願曉得你的道。 15 全能者是誰？我們何必侍奉他呢？求告他有什麼益處呢？』 16 看哪，他們亨通不在乎自己，惡人所謀定的離我好遠。
17 「惡人的燈何嘗熄滅？患難何嘗臨到他們呢？神何嘗發怒，向他們分散災禍呢？ 18 他們何嘗像風前的碎秸，如暴風颳去的糠秕呢？ 19 你們說神為惡人的兒女積蓄罪孽，我說不如本人受報，好使他親自知道。 20 願他親眼看見自己敗亡，親自飲全能者的憤怒。 21 他的歲月既盡，他還顧他本家嗎？ 22 神既審判那在高位的，誰能將知識教訓他呢？ 23 有人至死身體強壯，盡得平靖安逸； 24 他的奶桶充滿，他的骨髓滋潤。 25 有人至死心中痛苦，終身未嘗福樂的滋味。 26 他們一樣躺臥在塵土中，都被蟲子遮蓋。
27 「我知道你們的意思，並誣害我的計謀。 28 你們說：『霸者的房屋在哪裡？惡人住過的帳篷在哪裡？』 29 你們豈沒有詢問過路的人嗎？不知道他們所引的證據嗎？ 30 就是惡人在禍患的日子得存留，在發怒的日子得逃脫。 31 他所行的，有誰當面給他說明？他所做的，有誰報應他呢？ 32 然而他要被抬到塋地，並有人看守墳墓。 33 他要以谷中的土塊為甘甜，在他以先去的無數，在他以後去的更多。 34 你們對答的話中既都錯謬，怎麼徒然安慰我呢？」

Job’s Discourse on the Wicked
21 Then Job answered and said:
2 “Listen carefully to my speech,
And let this be your [a]consolation.
3 Bear with me that I may speak,
And after I have spoken, keep (A)mocking.
4 “As for me, is my complaint against man?
And if it were, why should I not be impatient?
5 Look at me and be astonished;
(B)Put your hand over your mouth.
6 Even when I remember I am terrified,
And trembling takes hold of my flesh.
7 (C)Why do the wicked live and become old,
Yes, become mighty in power?
8 Their descendants are established with them in their sight,
And their offspring before their eyes.
9 Their houses are safe from fear,
(D)Neither is [b]the rod of God upon them.
10 Their bull breeds without failure;
Their cow calves (E)without miscarriage.
11 They send forth their little ones like a flock,
And their children dance.
12 They sing to the tambourine and harp,
And rejoice to the sound of the flute.
13 They (F)spend their days in wealth,
And [c]in a moment go down to the [d]grave.
14 (G)Yet they say to God, ‘Depart from us,
For we do not desire the knowledge of Your ways.
15 (H)Who is the Almighty, that we should serve Him?
And (I)what profit do we have if we pray to Him?’
16 Indeed [e]their prosperity is not in their hand;
(J)The counsel of the wicked is far from me.
17 “How often is the lamp of the wicked put out?
How often does their destruction come upon them,
The sorrows God (K)distributes in His anger?
18 (L)They are like straw before the wind,
And like chaff that a storm [f]carries away.
19 They say, ‘God [g]lays up [h]one’s iniquity (M)for his children’;
Let Him recompense him, that he may know it.
20 Let his eyes see his destruction,
And (N)let him drink of the wrath of the Almighty.
21 For what does he care about his household after him,
When the number of his months is cut in half?
22 “Can(O) anyone teach God knowledge,
Since He judges those on high?
23 One dies in his full strength,
Being wholly at ease and secure;
24 His [i]pails are full of milk,
And the marrow of his bones is moist.
25 Another man dies in the bitterness of his soul,
Never having eaten with pleasure.
26 They (P)lie down alike in the dust,
And worms cover them.
27 “Look, I know your thoughts,
And the schemes with which you would wrong me.
28 For you say,
‘Where is the house of the prince?
And where is [j]the tent,
The dwelling place of the wicked?’
29 Have you not asked those who travel the road?
And do you not know their signs?
30 (Q)For the wicked are reserved for the day of doom;
They shall be brought out on the day of wrath.
31 Who condemns his way to his face?
And who repays him for what he has done?
32 Yet he shall be brought to the grave,
And a vigil kept over the tomb.
33 The clods of the valley shall be sweet to him;
(R)Everyone shall follow him,
As countless have gone before him.
34 How then can you comfort me with empty words,
Since [k]falsehood remains in your answers?”
