Job 20:4-11
Legacy Standard Bible
4 Do you know this from (A)of old,
From the establishment of man on earth,
5 That the (B)shouts of joy of the wicked are short,
And (C)the gladness of the godless momentary?
6 Though his loftiness (D)goes up to the heavens,
And his head touches the clouds,
7 He (E)perishes forever like his refuse;
Those who have seen him (F)will say, ‘Where is he?’
8 He flies away like a (G)dream, and they cannot find him;
Even like a vision of the night he is (H)chased away.
9 The (I)eye which saw him sees him no longer,
And (J)his place no longer beholds him.
10 His (K)sons seek the favor of the poor,
And his hands (L)give back his wealth.
11 His (M)bones are full of his youthful vigor,
But it lies down with him [a]in the dust.

Lexham English Bible
4 “Did you[a] know this from of old,
since the setting of the human being on earth,
5 that the rejoicing of the wicked is short,[b]
and the joy of the godless lasts only a moment?[c]
6 Even though his stature mounts up to the heaven,
and his head reaches to the clouds,
7 he will perish forever like his dung;
those who have seen him will say, ‘Where is he?’
8 He will fly away like a dream, and they will not find him,
and he will be chased away like a vision of the night.
9 The eye that saw him will not see him again,[d]
and his place will no longer behold him.
10 His children will seek favors from the poor,
and his hands will return his wealth.
11 His bones were full of his vigor,
but[e] it will lie down with him on[f] the dust.
