Satanás acusa Jó outra vez
2 Chegou o dia em que os seres celestiais vieram se apresentar diante do SENHOR. Satanás também veio com eles para se apresentar diante do SENHOR. 2 O SENHOR perguntou a Satanás:
—Por onde você tem andado?
Satanás lhe respondeu:
—Tenho andado pela terra de um lugar ao outro.
3 Então o SENHOR disse a Satanás:
—Você reparou no meu servo Jó? Não há ninguém na terra como ele, um homem sem pecado e honesto. Um homem que me respeita e rejeita o mal. Ele continua sem pecado, apesar de você ter pedido que eu o arruinasse. E eu permiti você fazer isso embora ele não tivesse feito nenhum mal.
4 Satanás respondeu ao SENHOR:
—Pele por pele![a] O homem é capaz de dar tudo o que tem para salvar a sua própria vida. 5 Mas estenda a sua mão e faça com que ele sofra no seu próprio corpo, então irá ver que ele o amaldiçoará[b] mesmo estando na sua frente.
6 Então o SENHOR disse a Satanás:
—Faça o que quiser com Jó, mas não o mate.
7 Satanás retirou-se da presença do SENHOR e afligiu Jó com feridas terríveis que cobriam todo o seu corpo, desde os pés até a cabeça. 8 Jó foi se sentar sobre um monte de cinzas e começou a raspar as feridas com um pedaço de caco. 9 A sua mulher viu isso e lhe disse:
—Você ainda não quer pecar? Amaldiçoe a Deus e morra!
10 Mas Jó respondeu à sua esposa:
—Você está falando tolices. Devemos aceitar tudo o que Deus nos dá, tanto o bem como o mal.
E Jó não pecou em nada do que disse.
Os três amigos de Jó
11 Três amigos de Jó souberam das desgraças que tinham caído sobre ele e saíram dos seus lugares para ir visitá-lo. Eles eram: Elifaz, da região de Temã; Bildade, da região de Suá; e Zofar, da região de Naamá. Os três concordaram ir juntos para consolar e confortar Jó. 12 Mas quando os três amigos se aproximaram dele, não puderam reconhecê-lo. Cheios de dor, começaram a chorar, rasgaram as suas roupas e lançaram cinzas para o ar e sobre as suas cabeças. 13 Depois, durante sete dias e sete noites, ficaram sentados no chão com Jó sem falar uma só palavra porque viam que Jó estava sofrendo muito.

- 2.4 Pele por pele Isso significa que Jó faria qualquer coisa para salvar sua própria pele (vida).
- 2.5 amaldiçoará Literalmente, “abençoará”. Os copistas receavam escrever expressões em que Deus fosse amaldiçoado. Em vez disso, eles “abençoavam a Deus” confiando que, pelo contexto, o leitor soubesse que Deus estava sendo amaldiçoado por alguém.

2 On another day the angels[a](A) came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came with them(B) to present himself before him. 2 And the Lord said to Satan, “Where have you come from?”
Satan answered the Lord, “From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it.”(C)
3 Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.(D) And he still maintains his integrity,(E) though you incited me against him to ruin him without any reason.”(F)
4 “Skin for skin!” Satan replied. “A man will give all he has(G) for his own life. 5 But now stretch out your hand and strike his flesh and bones,(H) and he will surely curse you to your face.”(I)
6 The Lord said to Satan, “Very well, then, he is in your hands;(J) but you must spare his life.”(K)
7 So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord and afflicted Job with painful sores from the soles of his feet to the crown of his head.(L) 8 Then Job took a piece of broken pottery and scraped himself with it as he sat among the ashes.(M)
9 His wife said to him, “Are you still maintaining your integrity?(N) Curse God and die!”(O)
10 He replied, “You are talking like a foolish[b] woman. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?”(P)
In all this, Job did not sin in what he said.(Q)
11 When Job’s three friends, Eliphaz the Temanite,(R) Bildad the Shuhite(S) and Zophar the Naamathite,(T) heard about all the troubles that had come upon him, they set out from their homes and met together by agreement to go and sympathize with him and comfort him.(U) 12 When they saw him from a distance, they could hardly recognize him;(V) they began to weep aloud,(W) and they tore their robes(X) and sprinkled dust on their heads.(Y) 13 Then they sat on the ground(Z) with him for seven days and seven nights.(AA) No one said a word to him,(AB) because they saw how great his suffering was.
