Satanás arruina la salud de Job
2 Aconteció cierto día que vinieron los hijos de Dios para presentarse ante el SEÑOR, y entre ellos vino también Satanás para presentarse ante el SEÑOR. 2 El SEÑOR preguntó a Satanás:
—¿De dónde vienes?
Y Satanás respondió al SEÑOR:
—De recorrer la tierra y de andar por ella.
3 El SEÑOR preguntó a Satanás:
—¿No te has fijado en mi siervo Job, que no hay otro como él en la tierra: un hombre íntegro y recto, temeroso de Dios y apartado del mal; y que todavía se aferra a su integridad a pesar de que tú me incitaste contra él para que lo arruinara sin motivo?
4 Y Satanás respondió al SEÑOR diciendo:
—¡Piel por piel! Todo lo que el hombre tiene lo dará por su vida. 5 Pero extiende, pues, tu mano y toca sus huesos y su carne, y verás si no te maldice en tu misma cara.
6 Y el SEÑOR respondió a Satanás:
—He aquí, él está en tu poder; pero respeta su vida.
7 Entonces Satanás salió de la presencia del SEÑOR e hirió a Job con llagas malignas desde la planta de sus pies hasta su coronilla. 8 Tomaba un pedazo de tiesto para rascarse con él, y estaba sentado en medio de las cenizas. 9 Entonces su mujer le dijo:
—¿Todavía te aferras a tu integridad? ¡Maldice a Dios y muérete!
10 Pero él le respondió:
—¡Has hablado como hablaría cualquiera de las mujeres insensatas! Recibimos el bien de parte de Dios, ¿y no recibiremos también el mal?
En todo esto Job no pecó con sus labios.
Job es visitado por sus tres amigos
11 Entonces tres amigos de Job —Elifaz el temanita, Bildad el sujita y Zofar el namatita— se enteraron de todo el mal que le había sobrevenido y vinieron, cada uno de su lugar. Convinieron juntos en ir a él para expresarle su condolencia y para consolarlo. 12 Y cuando alzaron los ojos desde lejos y no le pudieron reconocer, lloraron alzando la voz. Cada uno rasgó su manto y esparció polvo hacia el cielo sobre su cabeza. 13 Luego se sentaron en tierra con él por siete días y siete noches. Y ninguno de ellos le decía una sola palabra porque veían que el dolor era muy grande.

—¡Hola! ¿De dónde vienes?
Y el acusador contestó:
—Vengo de recorrer toda la tierra.
3 Entonces Dios le preguntó:
—¿Qué piensas de Job, mi fiel servidor? No hay en toda la tierra nadie tan bueno como él. Siempre me obedece en todo y evita hacer lo malo, y me sigue obedeciendo, a pesar de que me convenciste de hacerle mal sin ningún motivo.
4 El ángel acusador le contestó:
—¡Mientras a uno no lo hieren donde más le duele, todo va bien! Pero si de salvar la vida se trata, el hombre es capaz de todo. 5 Te aseguro que si lo maltratas, ¡te maldecirá en tu propia cara!
Dios le dijo:
6 —Muy bien, te dejaré que lo maltrates, pero no le quites la vida.
7 En cuanto el acusador se marchó, llenó a Job con llagas en todo el cuerpo. 8 Por eso, Job fue a sentarse sobre un montón de ceniza, y todo el día se lo pasaba rascándose con una piedra. 9 Su esposa fue a decirle:
—¿Por qué insistes en demostrar que eres bueno? ¡Mejor maldice a Dios, y muérete!
10 Pero Job le respondió:
—No digas tonterías. Si aceptamos todo lo bueno que Dios nos da, también debemos aceptar lo malo.
Y a pesar de todo lo que le había sucedido, Job no pecó contra Dios diciendo algo malo.
Los tres amigos de Job
11 Job tenía tres amigos: Elifaz, que era de la región de Temán; Bildad, de un lugar llamado Súah; y Zofar, de un lugar llamado Naamat. Cuando supieron todo lo malo que le había sucedido a Job, se pusieron de acuerdo para ir a consolarlo y decirle cuán tristes estaban por la muerte de sus hijos.
12 Al llegar a donde vivía Job, lo vieron de lejos, y no lo reconocieron; pero cuando ya estuvieron frente a él, comenzaron a llorar y a gritar. Enseguida rompieron su ropa y se echaron ceniza sobre la cabeza para mostrar su tristeza. 13 Durante siete días y siete noches estuvieron sentados en el suelo, haciéndole compañía. Era tan grande el sufrimiento de Job que ninguno de ellos se atrevía a decirle nada.

2 On another day the angels[a](A) came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came with them(B) to present himself before him. 2 And the Lord said to Satan, “Where have you come from?”
Satan answered the Lord, “From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it.”(C)
3 Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.(D) And he still maintains his integrity,(E) though you incited me against him to ruin him without any reason.”(F)
4 “Skin for skin!” Satan replied. “A man will give all he has(G) for his own life. 5 But now stretch out your hand and strike his flesh and bones,(H) and he will surely curse you to your face.”(I)
6 The Lord said to Satan, “Very well, then, he is in your hands;(J) but you must spare his life.”(K)
7 So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord and afflicted Job with painful sores from the soles of his feet to the crown of his head.(L) 8 Then Job took a piece of broken pottery and scraped himself with it as he sat among the ashes.(M)
9 His wife said to him, “Are you still maintaining your integrity?(N) Curse God and die!”(O)
10 He replied, “You are talking like a foolish[b] woman. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?”(P)
In all this, Job did not sin in what he said.(Q)
11 When Job’s three friends, Eliphaz the Temanite,(R) Bildad the Shuhite(S) and Zophar the Naamathite,(T) heard about all the troubles that had come upon him, they set out from their homes and met together by agreement to go and sympathize with him and comfort him.(U) 12 When they saw him from a distance, they could hardly recognize him;(V) they began to weep aloud,(W) and they tore their robes(X) and sprinkled dust on their heads.(Y) 13 Then they sat on the ground(Z) with him for seven days and seven nights.(AA) No one said a word to him,(AB) because they saw how great his suffering was.

Satan Attacks Job’s Health
2 Again (A)there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the Lord. 2 And the Lord said to Satan, “From where do you come?”
(B)Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.”
3 Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, (C)a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil? And still he (D)holds fast to his integrity, although you incited Me against him, (E)to [a]destroy him without cause.”
4 So Satan answered the Lord and said, “Skin for skin! Yes, all that a man has he will give for his life. 5 (F)But stretch out Your hand now, and touch his (G)bone and his flesh, and he will surely [b]curse You to Your face!”
6 (H)And the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, he is in your hand, but spare his life.”
7 So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord, and struck Job with painful boils (I)from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head. 8 And he took for himself a potsherd with which to scrape himself (J)while he sat in the midst of the ashes.
9 Then his wife said to him, “Do you still hold fast to your integrity? [c]Curse God and die!”
10 But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. (K)Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?” (L)In all this Job did not (M)sin with his lips.
Job’s Three Friends
11 Now when Job’s three friends heard of all this adversity that had come upon him, each one came from his own place—Eliphaz the (N)Temanite, Bildad the (O)Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite. For they had made an appointment together to come (P)and mourn with him, and to comfort him. 12 And when they raised their eyes from afar, and did not recognize him, they lifted their voices and wept; and each one tore his robe and (Q)sprinkled dust on his head toward heaven. 13 So they sat down with him on the ground (R)seven days and seven nights, and no one spoke a word to him, for they saw that his grief was very great.
