Satan Attacks Job’s Health
2 Again (A)there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the Lord. 2 And the Lord said to Satan, “From where do you come?”
(B)Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.”
3 Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, (C)a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil? And still he (D)holds fast to his integrity, although you incited Me against him, (E)to [a]destroy him without cause.”
4 So Satan answered the Lord and said, “Skin for skin! Yes, all that a man has he will give for his life. 5 (F)But stretch out Your hand now, and touch his (G)bone and his flesh, and he will surely [b]curse You to Your face!”
6 (H)And the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, he is in your hand, but spare his life.”
7 So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord, and struck Job with painful boils (I)from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head. 8 And he took for himself a potsherd with which to scrape himself (J)while he sat in the midst of the ashes.
9 Then his wife said to him, “Do you still hold fast to your integrity? [c]Curse God and die!”
10 But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. (K)Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?” (L)In all this Job did not (M)sin with his lips.
Job’s Three Friends
11 Now when Job’s three friends heard of all this adversity that had come upon him, each one came from his own place—Eliphaz the (N)Temanite, Bildad the (O)Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite. For they had made an appointment together to come (P)and mourn with him, and to comfort him. 12 And when they raised their eyes from afar, and did not recognize him, they lifted their voices and wept; and each one tore his robe and (Q)sprinkled dust on his head toward heaven. 13 So they sat down with him on the ground (R)seven days and seven nights, and no one spoke a word to him, for they saw that his grief was very great.

3 (B)Mukama Katonda n’agamba Setaani nti, “Olowoozezza ku muddu wange Yobu? Talina kyakunenyezebwa, mwesimbu, atya Katonda era eyeewala ekibi bw’atyo talina amufaanana. Anywezezza obutuukirivu bwe newaakubadde nga wansokasoka mmuzikirize awatali nsonga.”
4 Setaani n’amuddamu nti, “Eddiba olw’eddiba, omuntu kyaliva awaayo byonna by’alina olw’okuwonya obulamu bwe; 5 (C)naye golola omukono gwo okwate ku magumba ge n’omubiri gwe olabe oba taakwegaane.”
6 (D)Mukama Katonda n’amugamba nti, “Weewaawo, ali mu mukono gwo, kyokka mulekere obulamu bwe.”
7 (E)Awo Setaani n’ava awali Mukama Katonda, n’alwaza Yobu amayute amazibu okuva ku mutwe, okutuukira ddala ku bigere. 8 (F)Yobu n’atandika okweyaguzanga oluggyo ng’eno bw’atudde mu vvu.
9 Kyokka mukyala we n’amugamba nti, “Okyagugubidde ku butuukirivu bwo? Weegaane Katonda ofe!”
10 (G)Naye ye n’amuddamu nti, “Oyogera ng’omu ku bakazi abatategeera bwe bandyogedde! Tunaafunanga birungi byereere mu mukono gwa Katonda?”
Mu bino byonna Yobu teyayonoona na kamwa ke.
Mikwano gya Yobu Abasatu
11 (H)Awo mikwano gya Yobu abasatu; Erifaazi[a] Omutemani, Birudaadi Omusuki, ne Zofali Omunaamasi bwe baawulira emitawaana egyali gituuse ku mukwano gwabwe, ne bajja buli omu okuva ewuwe ne basisinkana nga bwe baali bateesezza, bagende bamusaasire bamuzzeemu amaanyi. 12 (I)Tebaamutegeererawo nga bakyali wala, olw’embeera gye yalimu; ne bayimusa amaloboozi gaabwe ne bakuba ebiwoobe ne bayuza ebyambalo byabwe ne bayiwa enfuufu ku mitwe gyabwe. 13 (J)Awo ne batuula naye we yali atudde okumala ennaku musanvu emisana n’ekiro nga tewali anyega, olw’obulumi obungi Yobu bwe yalimu.

2 And the Lord said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? And Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
3 And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.
4 And Satan answered the Lord, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life.
5 But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face.
6 And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.
7 So went Satan forth from the presence of the Lord, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.
8 And he took him a potsherd to scrape himself withal; and he sat down among the ashes.
9 Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.
10 But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.
11 Now when Job's three friends heard of all this evil that was come upon him, they came every one from his own place; Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite: for they had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him and to comfort him.
12 And when they lifted up their eyes afar off, and knew him not, they lifted up their voice, and wept; and they rent every one his mantle, and sprinkled dust upon their heads toward heaven.
13 So they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and seven nights, and none spake a word unto him: for they saw that his grief was very great.

Jobs hälsa angrips
2 Nu kom änglarna på nytt fram inför Herren, och Satan var med dem.
2 Varifrån kommer du? frågade Herren Satan.Från en färd runt jorden, svarade Satan.
3 Nå, har du lagt märke till min tjänare Job? frågade Herren. Han är den finaste människan på hela jorden, en god man som fruktar Gud och inte vill ha något med det onda att göra. Han har bevarat sin tro på mig, trots att du övertalade mig att utan orsak låta olycka drabba honom.
4-5 Det är inte så konstigt, svarade Satan. En människa ger vad som helst för att rädda sitt eget skinn. Men rör hans kropp, så ska du få se. Då kommer han att förbanna dig rakt i ansiktet!
6 Gör vad du vill med honom, svarade Herren. Men du måste skona hans liv!
7 Satan lämnade då Herren, och omedelbart drabbades Job av fruktansvärda bölder över hela kroppen, från huvud till fot.
8 Då satte sig Job och sörjde i aska och tog en lerskärva och skrapade sig med den.
9 Hans hustru sa: Försöker du fortfarande vara gudfruktig, trots att Gud har gjort allt det här mot dig? Förbanna honom och dö!
10 Men han svarade: Du talar som en dåre. Vad menar du? Skulle vi bara ta emot det som är gott från Guds hand och aldrig hans prövningar? Trots allt som hade hänt honom sa Job aldrig något ont mot Herren.
Job får besök av några vänner
11 När tre av Jobs vänner fick höra om alla tragedier som drabbat honom, tog de kontakt med varandra och reste till honom för att trösta och beklaga honom. De tre var Elifas från Teman, Bildad från Sua och Sofar från Naama.
12 Job var så förändrad att de knappt kände igen honom. Under högljudd och förtvivlad gråt rev de sönder sina mantlar och strödde jord på sina huvuden för att demonstrera sin sorg.
13 Sedan satt de på marken tillsammans med Job, alldeles tysta, i sju dagar och sju nätter. Ingen av dem ville säga ett ord till honom, för de insåg att hans lidande var fruktansvärt svårt.
