Job confía en que Dios lo justificará
19 Respondió entonces Job, y dijo:
2 ¿Hasta cuándo angustiaréis mi alma,
Y me moleréis con palabras?
3 Ya me habéis vituperado diez veces;
No os avergonzáis de injuriarme.
4 Aun si fuese verdad que yo haya errado,
Sobre mí recaería mi error.
5 Pero si vosotros os hacéis el grande contra mí,
Y contra mí alegáis mi oprobio,
6 Sabed ahora que Dios es quien me ha derribado,
Y me ha envuelto en su red.
7 He aquí, yo clamaré: ¡violencia!, y no seré oído;
Daré voces, y no habrá justicia.
8 Cercó de vallado mi camino, y no pasaré;
Y sobre mis veredas puso tinieblas.
9 Me ha despojado de mi gloria,
Y quitado la corona de mi cabeza.
10 Demolió mis muros por todos lados, y perezco;
Y ha descuajado mi esperanza como árbol arrancado.
11 Hizo arder contra mí su furor,
Y me contó para sí entre sus enemigos.
12 Vinieron sus ejércitos a una, y se atrincheraron en torno a mí,
Y acamparon en derredor de mi tienda.
13 Hizo alejar de mí a mis hermanos,
Y mis parientes como extraños se apartaron de mí.
14 Mis vecinos se alejaron,
Y mis conocidos se olvidaron de mí.
15 Los servidores de mi casa y mis criadas me tuvieron por extraño;
Forastero fui yo a sus ojos.
16 Llamo a mi siervo, y no me responde;
Con mi propia boca le suplicaba.
17 Mi aliento le repugna a mi mujer,
Y fétido soy a los hijos de mi propia madre.
18 Aun los jovenzuelos me menosprecian;
Al levantarme, se burlan de mí.
19 Todos mis íntimos amigos me aborrecen,
Y los que yo amaba se han vuelto contra mí.
20 Mi piel y mi carne se pegan a mis huesos,
Y he escapado con sólo la piel de mis dientes.
21 ¡Oh, vosotros mis amigos, tened compasión de mí, tened compasión de mí!
Porque la mano de Dios me ha herido.
22 ¿Por qué me perseguís como lo hace Dios,
Y ni aun os saciáis de mi carne?
23 ¡Quién me diese ahora que mis palabras fuesen escritas!
¡Quién me diese que se inscribiesen en un documento;
24 Que con cincel de hierro y con plomo
Fuesen esculpidas en piedra para siempre!
25 Yo sé que mi Redentor vive,
Y al fin se levantará sobre el polvo;
26 Y después de deshecha esta mi piel,
En mi carne he de ver de nuevo a Dios;
27 Al cual veré por mí mismo,
Y mis ojos lo verán, y no los de otro,
Aunque mi corazón desfallece dentro de mí.
28 Mas si decís: ¿Cómo atraparle,
Y qué pretexto hallaremos contra él?
29 Temed vosotros delante de la espada;
Porque el furor de la espada se encenderá contra las injusticias,
Para que sepáis que hay juicio.

Y me moleréis con palabras?

¿No os avergonzáis de descomediros delante de mí?
4 Sea así que realmente haya yo errado,
Conmigo se quedará mi yerro.
5 Mas si vosotros os engrandeciereis contra mí,
Y adujereis contra mí mi oprobio,
6 Sabed ahora que Dios me ha trastornado,
Y traído en derredor su red sobre mí.
7 He aquí yo clamaré agravio, y no seré oído:
Daré voces, y no habrá juicio.
8 Cercó de vallado mi camino, y no pasaré;
Y sobre mis veredas puso tinieblas.
9 Hame despojado de mi gloria,
Y quitado la corona de mi cabeza.
10 Arruinóme por todos lados, y perezco;
Y ha hecho pasar mi esperanza como árbol arrancado.
11 E hizo inflamar contra mí su furor,
Y contóme para sí entre sus enemigos.
12 Vinieron sus ejércitos á una, y trillaron sobre mí su camino,
Y asentaron campo en derredor de mi tienda.
13 Hizo alejar de mí mis hermanos,
Y positivamente se extrañaron de mí mis conocidos.
14 Mis parientes se detuvieron,
Y mis conocidos se olvidaron de mí.
15 Los moradores de mi casa y mis criadas me tuvieron por extraño;
Forastero fuí yo en sus ojos.
16 Llamé á mi siervo, y no respondió;
De mi propia boca le suplicaba.
17 Mi aliento vino á ser extraño á mi mujer,
Aunque por los hijos de mis entrañas le rogaba.
18 Aun los muchachos me menospreciaron:
En levantándome, hablaban contra mí.
19 Todos mis confidentes me aborrecieron;
Y los que yo amaba, se tornaron contra mí.
20 Mi cuero y mi carne se pegaron á mis huesos;
Y he escapado con la piel de mis dientes.
21 Oh vosotros mis amigos, tened compasión de mí, tened compasión de mí;
Porque la mano de Dios me ha tocado.
22 ¿Por qué me perseguís como Dios,
Y no os hartáis de mis carnes?
23 ¡Quién diese ahora que mis palabras fuesen escritas!
¡Quién diese que se escribieran en un libro!
24 ¡Que con cincel de hierro y con plomo
Fuesen en piedra esculpidas para siempre!
25 Yo sé que mi Redentor vive,
Y al fin se levantará sobre el polvo:
26 Y después de deshecha esta mi piel,
Aun he de ver en mi carne á Dios;
27 Al cual yo tengo de ver por mí,
Y mis ojos lo verán, y no otro,
Aunque mis riñones se consuman dentro de mí.
28 Mas debierais decir: ¿Por qué lo perseguimos?
Ya que la raíz del negocio en mí se halla.
29 Temed vosotros delante de la espada;
Porque sobreviene el furor de la espada á causa de las injusticias,
Para que sepáis que hay un juicio.

19 Then Job replied:
2 “How long will you torment(A) me
and crush(B) me with words?
3 Ten times(C) now you have reproached(D) me;
shamelessly you attack me.
4 If it is true that I have gone astray,
my error(E) remains my concern alone.
5 If indeed you would exalt yourselves above me(F)
and use my humiliation against me,
6 then know that God has wronged me(G)
and drawn his net(H) around me.(I)
7 “Though I cry, ‘Violence!’ I get no response;(J)
though I call for help,(K) there is no justice.(L)
8 He has blocked my way so I cannot pass;(M)
he has shrouded my paths in darkness.(N)
9 He has stripped(O) me of my honor(P)
and removed the crown from my head.(Q)
10 He tears me down(R) on every side till I am gone;
he uproots my hope(S) like a tree.(T)
11 His anger(U) burns against me;
he counts me among his enemies.(V)
12 His troops advance in force;(W)
they build a siege ramp(X) against me
and encamp around my tent.(Y)
13 “He has alienated my family(Z) from me;
my acquaintances are completely estranged from me.(AA)
14 My relatives have gone away;
my closest friends(AB) have forgotten me.
15 My guests(AC) and my female servants(AD) count me a foreigner;
they look on me as on a stranger.
16 I summon my servant, but he does not answer,
though I beg him with my own mouth.
17 My breath is offensive to my wife;
I am loathsome(AE) to my own family.
18 Even the little boys(AF) scorn me;
when I appear, they ridicule me.(AG)
19 All my intimate friends(AH) detest me;(AI)
those I love have turned against me.(AJ)
20 I am nothing but skin and bones;(AK)
I have escaped only by the skin of my teeth.[a]
21 “Have pity on me, my friends,(AL) have pity,
for the hand of God has struck(AM) me.
22 Why do you pursue(AN) me as God does?(AO)
Will you never get enough of my flesh?(AP)
23 “Oh, that my words were recorded,
that they were written on a scroll,(AQ)
24 that they were inscribed with an iron tool(AR) on[b] lead,
or engraved in rock forever!(AS)
25 I know that my redeemer[c](AT) lives,(AU)
and that in the end he will stand on the earth.[d]
26 And after my skin has been destroyed,
yet[e] in[f] my flesh I will see God;(AV)
27 I myself will see him
with my own eyes(AW)—I, and not another.
How my heart yearns(AX) within me!

19 Then Job answered and said,
2 How long will ye vex my soul, and break me in pieces with words?
3 These ten times have ye reproached me: ye are not ashamed that ye make yourselves strange to me.
4 And be it indeed that I have erred, mine error remaineth with myself.
5 If indeed ye will magnify yourselves against me, and plead against me my reproach:
6 Know now that God hath overthrown me, and hath compassed me with his net.
7 Behold, I cry out of wrong, but I am not heard: I cry aloud, but there is no judgment.
8 He hath fenced up my way that I cannot pass, and he hath set darkness in my paths.
9 He hath stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown from my head.
10 He hath destroyed me on every side, and I am gone: and mine hope hath he removed like a tree.
11 He hath also kindled his wrath against me, and he counteth me unto him as one of his enemies.
12 His troops come together, and raise up their way against me, and encamp round about my tabernacle.
13 He hath put my brethren far from me, and mine acquaintance are verily estranged from me.
14 My kinsfolk have failed, and my familiar friends have forgotten me.
15 They that dwell in mine house, and my maids, count me for a stranger: I am an alien in their sight.
16 I called my servant, and he gave me no answer; I intreated him with my mouth.
17 My breath is strange to my wife, though I intreated for the children's sake of mine own body.
18 Yea, young children despised me; I arose, and they spake against me.
19 All my inward friends abhorred me: and they whom I loved are turned against me.
20 My bone cleaveth to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped with the skin of my teeth.
21 Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, O ye my friends; for the hand of God hath touched me.
22 Why do ye persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh?
23 Oh that my words were now written! oh that they were printed in a book!
24 That they were graven with an iron pen and lead in the rock for ever!
25 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:
26 And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:
27 Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.
28 But ye should say, Why persecute we him, seeing the root of the matter is found in me?
29 Be ye afraid of the sword: for wrath bringeth the punishments of the sword, that ye may know there is a judgment.
