²² Why do you, like God, pursue me,
    never satisfied with my flesh?^(A)

²⁶ For they persecute those whom you have struck down,
    and those whom you have wounded they attack still more.^[a](A)

³ who eat the flesh of my people,
    flay their skin off them,
break their bones in pieces,
    and chop them up like meat^[a] in a kettle,
    like flesh in a caldron.^(A)

²³ And I will put it into the hand of your tormentors,
    who have said to you,
    “Bow down, that we may walk on you,”
and you have made your back like the ground
    and like the street for them to walk on.^(A)

³¹ if those of my tent ever said,
    ‘O that we might be sated with his flesh!’^[a]—^(A)

¹³     his archers surround me.
He slashes open my kidneys and shows no mercy;
    he pours out my gall on the ground.^(A)
14 He bursts upon me again and again;
    he rushes at me like a warrior.^(B)

¹¹ God gives me up to the evil
    and casts me into the hands of the wicked.^(A)

²⁵ Will you frighten a windblown leaf
    and pursue dry chaff?^(A)

¹⁶ Bold as a lion you hunt me;
    you repeat your exploits against me.^(A)
