Bildad’s Second Response to Job
18 Then Bildad the Shuhite replied:
2 “How long before you stop talking?
Speak sense if you want us to answer!
3 Do you think we are mere animals?
Do you think we are stupid?
4 You may tear out your hair in anger,
but will that destroy the earth?
Will it make the rocks tremble?
5 “Surely the light of the wicked will be snuffed out.
The sparks of their fire will not glow.
6 The light in their tent will grow dark.
The lamp hanging above them will be quenched.
7 The confident stride of the wicked will be shortened.
Their own schemes will be their downfall.
8 The wicked walk into a net.
They fall into a pit.
9 A trap grabs them by the heel.
A snare holds them tight.
10 A noose lies hidden on the ground.
A rope is stretched across their path.
11 “Terrors surround the wicked
and trouble them at every step.
12 Hunger depletes their strength,
and calamity waits for them to stumble.
13 Disease eats their skin;
death devours their limbs.
14 They are torn from the security of their homes
and are brought down to the king of terrors.
15 The homes of the wicked will burn down;
burning sulfur rains on their houses.
16 Their roots will dry up,
and their branches will wither.
17 All memory of their existence will fade from the earth;
no one will remember their names.
18 They will be thrust from light into darkness,
driven from the world.
19 They will have neither children nor grandchildren,
nor any survivor in the place where they lived.
20 People in the west are appalled at their fate;
people in the east are horrified.
21 They will say, ‘This was the home of a wicked person,
the place of one who rejected God.’”

18 Y RESPONDIO Bildad Suhita, y dijo:
2 ¿Cuándo pondréis fin á las palabras? Entended, y después hablemos.
3 ¿Por qué somos tenidos por bestias, Y en vuestros ojos somos viles?
4 Oh tú, que despedazas tu alma con tu furor, ¿Será dejada la tierra por tu causa, Y serán traspasadas de su lugar las peñas?
5 Ciertamente la luz de los impíos será apagada, Y no resplandecerá la centella de su fuego.
6 La luz se oscurecerá en su tienda, Y apagaráse sobre él su lámpara.
7 Los pasos de su pujanza serán acortados, Y precipitarálo su mismo consejo.
8 Porque red será echada en sus pies, Y sobre red andará.
9 Lazo prenderá su calcañar: Afirmaráse la trampa contra él.
10 Su cuerda está escondida en la tierra, Y su torzuelo sobre la senda.
11 De todas partes lo asombrarán temores, Y haránle huir desconcertado.
12 Su fuerza será hambrienta, Y á su lado estará aparejado quebrantamiento.
13 El primogénito de la muerte comerá los ramos de su piel, Y devorará sus miembros.
14 Su confianza será arrancada de su tienda, Y harále esto llevar al rey de los espantos.
15 En su tienda morará como si no fuese suya: Piedra azufre será esparcida sobre su morada.
16 Abajo se secarán sus raíces, Y arriba serán cortadas sus ramas.
17 Su memoria perecerá de la tierra, Y no tendrá nombre por las calles.
18 De la luz será lanzado á las tinieblas, Y echado fuera del mundo.
19 No tendrá hijo ni nieto en su pueblo, Ni quien le suceda en sus moradas.
20 Sobre su día se espantarán los por venir, Como ocupó el pavor á los que fueron antes.
21 Ciertamente tales son las moradas del impío, Y este será el lugar del que no conoció á Dios.

18 Then Bildad the Shuhite(A) replied:
2 “When will you end these speeches?(B)
Be sensible, and then we can talk.
3 Why are we regarded as cattle(C)
and considered stupid in your sight?(D)
4 You who tear yourself(E) to pieces in your anger,(F)
is the earth to be abandoned for your sake?
Or must the rocks be moved from their place?(G)
5 “The lamp of a wicked man is snuffed out;(H)
the flame of his fire stops burning.(I)
6 The light in his tent(J) becomes dark;(K)
the lamp beside him goes out.(L)
7 The vigor(M) of his step is weakened;(N)
his own schemes(O) throw him down.(P)
8 His feet thrust him into a net;(Q)
he wanders into its mesh.
9 A trap seizes him by the heel;
a snare(R) holds him fast.(S)
10 A noose(T) is hidden for him on the ground;
a trap(U) lies in his path.(V)
11 Terrors(W) startle him on every side(X)
and dog(Y) his every step.
12 Calamity(Z) is hungry(AA) for him;
disaster(AB) is ready for him when he falls.(AC)
13 It eats away parts of his skin;(AD)
death’s firstborn devours his limbs.(AE)
14 He is torn from the security of his tent(AF)
and marched off to the king(AG) of terrors.(AH)
15 Fire resides[a] in his tent;(AI)
burning sulfur(AJ) is scattered over his dwelling.
16 His roots dry up below(AK)
and his branches wither above.(AL)
17 The memory of him perishes from the earth;(AM)
he has no name(AN) in the land.(AO)
18 He is driven from light into the realm of darkness(AP)
and is banished(AQ) from the world.(AR)
19 He has no offspring(AS) or descendants(AT) among his people,
no survivor(AU) where once he lived.(AV)
20 People of the west are appalled(AW) at his fate;(AX)
those of the east are seized with horror.
21 Surely such is the dwelling(AY) of an evil man;(AZ)
such is the place(BA) of one who does not know God.”(BB)
