17 Mi espíritu está quebrantado, mis días extinguidos,
el sepulcro[a] está preparado para mí(A).
2 No hay sino escarnecedores conmigo(B),
y mis ojos miran[b] su provocación.
3 Coloca, pues, contigo una fianza para mí(C);
¿quién hay que sea mi fiador[c]?
4 Porque has escondido su corazón del entendimiento(D),
por tanto no los exaltarás.
5 Al que denuncie a sus amigos por una parte del botín(E),
a sus hijos se les debilitarán los ojos(F).
6 Porque Él me ha hecho proverbio(G) del pueblo,
y soy uno a quien los hombres escupen[d](H).
7 Mis ojos[e] se oscurecen también por el sufrimiento(I),
y mis miembros todos son como una sombra(J).
8 Los rectos se quedarán pasmados de esto,
y el inocente(K) se indignará contra el impío.
9 Sin embargo el justo se mantendrá en su camino(L),
y el de manos limpias más y más se fortalecerá(M).
10 Pero volveos todos vosotros, y venid[f] ahora,
pues no hallo entre vosotros a ningún sabio(N).
11 Mis días han pasado(O), se deshicieron mis planes,
los deseos de mi corazón.
12 Algunos convierten la noche en día, diciendo:
«La luz está cerca», en presencia de las tinieblas.
13 Si espero que el Seol[g] sea mi casa(P),
hago[h] mi lecho en las tinieblas;
14 si digo al hoyo: «Mi padre eres tú»,
y al gusano(Q): «Mi madre y mi hermana»,
15 ¿dónde está, pues, mi esperanza(R)?,
y mi esperanza ¿quién la verá?
16 ¿Descenderá conmigo(S) al Seol?
¿Nos hundiremos juntos en el polvo?[i]

17 Tinh thần tôi lụn bại;
đời tôi hầu như tàn rồi.
Mồ mả đang chờ đợi tôi.
2 Những kẻ cười nhạo tôi đang vây quanh tôi;
Tôi nhìn họ sỉ nhục tôi.
3 “Lạy Thượng Đế, xin hứa cùng tôi.
Vì không ai chịu cam kết hộ tôi.
4 Ngài đóng trí họ để không còn hiểu biết.
Đừng để họ thắng tôi.
5 Có kẻ nhận của hối lộ để làm chứng nghịch bạn mình,
nhưng làm như thế, mắt con cái nó sẽ bị mù [a].
6 Thượng Đế đã khiến tên tôi thành lời nguyền rủa;
người ta phỉ nhổ vào mặt tôi.
7 Tôi buồn thảm đến nỗi mờ mắt,
thân hình tôi dẹp như cái bóng.
8 Người nhân đức sẽ bất bình về điều nầy;
người vô tội tức tối về kẻ nghịch lại Thượng Đế.
9 Nhưng ai công chính sẽ cứ mãi làm điều công chính,
còn ai có tay không bị dơ bẩn
vì tội lỗi sẽ càng ngày càng vững mạnh.
10 Nhưng các anh hãy ráng chứng tỏ tôi sai đi!
Tôi chẳng thấy có ai khôn trong vòng các anh cả.
11 Đời tôi tàn rồi, chương trình tôi bị phá hủy,
cùng với ước vọng của lòng tôi.
12 Các anh cho đêm là ngày;
khi bóng tối đến các anh nói, ‘Ánh sáng gần ló dạng.’
13 Nếu mồ mả là hi vọng chỗ tôi ở,
nếu tôi trải giường tôi trong bóng tối,
14 Nếu tôi nói với nấm mồ,
‘Ngươi là cha ta,’ và nói với dòi bọ,
‘Ngươi là mẹ ta’ hay ‘Ngươi là chị em ta,’
15 thì hi vọng tôi ở đâu?
Ai có thể nhìn thấy hi vọng nào cho tôi?
16 Hi vọng có đi xuống cửa cõi chết không?
Chúng ta có cùng nhau đi vào bụi đất không?”

my days are cut short,(B)
the grave awaits me.(C)
2 Surely mockers(D) surround me;(E)
my eyes must dwell on their hostility.
3 “Give me, O God, the pledge you demand.(F)
Who else will put up security(G) for me?(H)
4 You have closed their minds to understanding;(I)
therefore you will not let them triumph.
5 If anyone denounces their friends for reward,(J)
the eyes of their children will fail.(K)
6 “God has made me a byword(L) to everyone,(M)
a man in whose face people spit.(N)
7 My eyes have grown dim with grief;(O)
my whole frame is but a shadow.(P)
8 The upright are appalled at this;
the innocent are aroused(Q) against the ungodly.
9 Nevertheless, the righteous(R) will hold to their ways,
and those with clean hands(S) will grow stronger.(T)
10 “But come on, all of you, try again!
I will not find a wise man among you.(U)
11 My days have passed,(V) my plans are shattered.
Yet the desires of my heart(W)
12 turn night into day;(X)
in the face of the darkness light is near.(Y)
13 If the only home I hope for is the grave,(Z)
if I spread out my bed(AA) in the realm of darkness,(AB)
14 if I say to corruption,(AC) ‘You are my father,’
and to the worm,(AD) ‘My mother’ or ‘My sister,’
15 where then is my hope—(AE)
who can see any hope for me?(AF)
16 Will it go down to the gates of death?(AG)
Will we descend together into the dust?”(AH)
