Quinto discurso de Job
16 Respuesta de Job:
2 «Todo eso lo había escuchado antes. ¡Qué lastimosos consoladores son ustedes! 3 ¿Nunca van a detener la corriente de sus necias palabras? ¿Qué he dicho para provocar ese hablar interminable? 4 Pero quizá yo podría hablar del mismo modo que ustedes si estuvieran ustedes en mi lugar. Lanzaría mis críticas contra ustedes y menearía la cabeza al mirarlos. 5 ¡Pero no! Hablaría de modo que los ayudara. Procuraría alejar su dolor.
6 »Sin embargo, yo he de seguir sufriendo por mucho que me defienda, y de nada sirve negarme a hablar, 7 porque Dios me ha molido y me ha quitado mi familia. 8 ¡Ay Dios, me has reducido a huesos y pellejo, según dicen, como prueba de mis pecados!
9 »Dios me aborrece y airadamente rasga mi carne; me ha desgarrado con sus dientes, y ha acechado para extinguir en mí toda señal de vida. 10 La gente se mofa de mí abiertamente; burlones, me dan de bofetadas, y todos juntos se ponen en mi contra. 11 Y Dios me ha entregado en manos de los pecadores, en poder de los inicuos. 12 Yo vivía tranquilo hasta que él me quebrantó. Me tomó por el cuello y me despedazó, y luego me colgó en alto para servirle de blanco. 13 Sus arqueros me rodean y me lanzan sus flechas hasta que la sangre de mis heridas empapa la tierra. 14 Me ataca sin tregua, embistiéndome como gigante.
15 »Aquí me siento vestido con ropa de penitencia, y al polvo he arrojado toda esperanza. 16 El llanto enrojece mis ojos, y en mis párpados hay sombra de muerte. 17 Pero soy inocente y mi plegaria es pura.
18 »¡Oh tierra, no ocultes mi sangre! ¡Déjala que proteste en mi nombre! 19 Pero aun ahora el testigo de mi inocencia está allá en el cielo; mi abogado está allá en lo alto. 20 Mi intercesor es mi amigo, y ante él me deshago en lágrimas 21 para que interceda ante Dios a favor mío, como quien apela por su amigo. 22 Pasarán sólo unos cuantos años antes de que yo emprenda el viaje sin regreso.

16 Then Job answered and said,
2 I have heard many such things: miserable comforters are ye all.
3 Shall vain words have an end? or what emboldeneth thee that thou answerest?
4 I also could speak as ye do: if your soul were in my soul's stead, I could heap up words against you, and shake mine head at you.
5 But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips should asswage your grief.
6 Though I speak, my grief is not asswaged: and though I forbear, what am I eased?
7 But now he hath made me weary: thou hast made desolate all my company.
8 And thou hast filled me with wrinkles, which is a witness against me: and my leanness rising up in me beareth witness to my face.
9 He teareth me in his wrath, who hateth me: he gnasheth upon me with his teeth; mine enemy sharpeneth his eyes upon me.
10 They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me.
11 God hath delivered me to the ungodly, and turned me over into the hands of the wicked.
12 I was at ease, but he hath broken me asunder: he hath also taken me by my neck, and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for his mark.
13 His archers compass me round about, he cleaveth my reins asunder, and doth not spare; he poureth out my gall upon the ground.
14 He breaketh me with breach upon breach, he runneth upon me like a giant.
15 I have sewed sackcloth upon my skin, and defiled my horn in the dust.
16 My face is foul with weeping, and on my eyelids is the shadow of death;
17 Not for any injustice in mine hands: also my prayer is pure.
18 O earth, cover not thou my blood, and let my cry have no place.
19 Also now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and my record is on high.
20 My friends scorn me: but mine eye poureth out tears unto God.
21 O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleadeth for his neighbour!
22 When a few years are come, then I shall go the way whence I shall not return.

16 約伯回答說：
2 「這樣的話我聽了許多；
你們全都是使人愁煩的安慰者。
3 如風的言語有窮盡嗎？
或者甚麼惹動你回答呢？
4 我也能說你們那樣的話，
你們若處在我的景況，
我也可以堆砌言詞攻擊你們，
又可以向你們搖頭。
5 但我必用口堅固你們，
顫動的嘴唇帶來舒解。
6 「我若說話，痛苦仍不得緩解；
我若停止，痛苦就離開我嗎？
7 但現在 神使我困倦，
你使所有的親友遠離我，
8 你抓住我[a]，成為見證起來攻擊我；
我的枯瘦也當着我的面作證。
9 神發怒撕裂我，逼迫我，
向我咬牙切齒；
我的敵人怒目瞪我。
10 他們向我大大張口，
打我的耳光羞辱我，
聚在一起攻擊我。
11 神把我交給不敬虔的人，
把我扔到惡人的手中。
12 我本是安逸，他折斷我，
掐住我的頸項，把我摔碎，
又立我作他的箭靶。
13 他的弓箭手圍繞我。
他刺破我的腎臟，並不留情，
把我的膽汁傾倒在地上。
14 他使我破裂，破裂又破裂，
如同勇士向我直闖。
15 「我把麻布縫在我的皮膚上，
把我的角放在塵土中。
16 我的臉因哭泣變紅，
我的眼皮上有死蔭。
17 我的手中卻沒有暴力，
我的祈禱也是純潔的。
18 「地啊，不要遮蓋我的血！
不要讓我的哀求有藏匿之處！
19 現今，看哪，在天有我的見證，
在上有我的保人。
20 我的朋友譏誚我，
我卻向 神眼淚汪汪。
21 願人可與 神理論，
如同人與朋友一樣；
22 因為再過幾年，
我必走那往而不返之路。」
