Job 14:18-22
New International Version
18 “But as a mountain erodes and crumbles(A)
and as a rock is moved from its place,(B)
19 as water wears away stones
and torrents(C) wash away the soil,(D)
so you destroy a person’s hope.(E)
20 You overpower them once for all, and they are gone;(F)
you change their countenance and send them away.(G)
21 If their children are honored, they do not know it;
if their offspring are brought low, they do not see it.(H)
22 They feel but the pain of their own bodies(I)
and mourn only for themselves.(J)”
Job 14:18-22
Lexham English Bible
18 “But[a] a mountain falls; it crumbles away,
and a rock moves away from its place.
19 Water wears away stones;
its torrents wash away the soil of the earth;
so[b] you destroy the hope of human beings.
20 You overpower him forever, and he passes away;
you change his countenance,[c] then[d] you send him away.
21 His children may come to honor, but[e] he does not know it;
or[f] they may become lowly, but[g] he does not realize it.[h]
22 He feels only the pain of his own body,[i]
and his inner self[j] mourns for him.”[k]
